The effects of nonlinearities on the vibration of viscoelastic sandwich plates
, Article International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics ; Vol. 62 , 2014 , Pages 41-57 ; ISSN: 00207462 ; Haddadpour, H ; Navazi, H. M ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The nonlinear free and forced bending vibration of sandwich plates with incompressible viscoelastic core is investigated under the effects of different source of nonlinearities. For the core constrained between stiffer layers, the transverse shear strains, as well as the rotations are assumed to be moderate. The linear and quadratic displacement fields are also adopted for the in-plane and out-of-plane displacements of the core, respectively. The assumption of moderate transverse strains requires a nonlinear constitutive equation which is obtained from a single-integral nonlinear viscoelastic model using the assumed order of magnitudes for linear strains and rotations. The 5th-order method...

Abstract
This paper is concerned with the tele-operation of autonomous vehicles over analog Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel, which is subject to transmission noise and power constraint. The nonlinear dynamic of autonomous vehicles is described by the unicycle model and is cascaded with a bandpass filter acting as encoder. Using the describing function method, the nonlinear dynamic of autonomous vehicles is represented by an approximate linear system. Then, the available results for linear control over analog AWGN channel are extended to account for linear continuous time systems with non-real valued and multiple real valued eigenvalues and for tracking a non-zero reference signal....

Abstract
Recently graph theory and complex networks have been widely used as a mean to model functionality of the brain. Among different neuroimaging techniques available for constructing the brain functional networks, electroencephalography (EEG) with its high temporal resolution is a useful instrument of the analysis of functional interdependencies between different brain regions. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease, which leads to substantial cognitive decline, and eventually, dementia in aged people. To achieve a deeper insight into the behavior of functional cerebral networks in AD, here we study their synchronizability in 17 newly diagnosed AD patients compared to 17 healthy...

Abstract
In this paper, we discuss the controllability of a family of linear time-invariant (LTI) networks defined on a signed graph. In this direction, we introduce the notion of positive and negative signed zero forcing sets for the controllability analysis of positive and negative eigenvalues of system matrices with the same sign pattern. A sufficient combinatorial condition that ensures the strong structural controllability of signed networks is then proposed. Moreover, an upper bound on the maximum multiplicity of positive and negative eigenvalues associated with a signed graph is provided. © 2019 IEEE

Abstract
This article addresses the stabilization of noiseless nonlinear dynamic systems over limited capacity communication channels. It is shown that the stability of nonlinear dynamic systems over memory-less communication channels implies an inequality condition between the Shannon channel capacity and the summation of the positive equilibrium Lyapunov exponents of the dynamic system or, equivalently, the logarithms of the magnitude of the unstable eigenvalues of system Jacobian. Furthermore, we propose an encoder, decoder, and a controller to prove that scalar nonlinear dynamic systems are stabilizable under the aforementioned inequality condition over the digital noiseless and the packet...

Abstract
This paper is concerned with the stability of linear time-invariant dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel subject to minimum bit rate constraint when an encoder and a decoder are unaware of the control signal. This assumption results in co-designing the encoder, decoder and controller. The encoder, decoder, controller and conditions relating transmission rate to packet erasure probability and eigenvalues of the system matrix A are presented for almost sure asymptotic stability of linear time-invariant dynamic systems over the packet erasure channel with feedback acknowledgment. When the eigenvalues of the system matrix A are real valued, it is shown that the obtained condition for...

Abstract
This study attempts to reach a broad understanding of the stability properties of nonlinear time-periodic flapping wing structures. Two bio-system models, Hummingbird (6DOF) and Hawkmoth (3DOF) are developed for this purpose. Initial analysis on the Hummingbird model, which is based on the Floquet theory, kinetic energy integration, and phase portrait technique, indicates lack of stability in hover flight. Kinetic energy integration is carried out on the extended model of the Hawkmoth to find the domain of attraction and increase the level of stability by varying the design parameters. Here, the hinge location of the wing, flapping amplitude, flapping frequency, and mean angle of attack are...

Abstract
A Deza graph G with parameters (n,k,b,a) is a k-regular graph with n vertices such that any two distinct vertices have b or a common neighbours. The children GA and GB of a Deza graph G are defined on the vertex set of G such that every two distinct vertices are adjacent in GA or GB if and only if they have a or b common neighbours, respectively. A strongly Deza graph is a Deza graph with strongly regular children. In this paper we give a spectral characterisation of strongly Deza graphs, show relationships between eigenvalues, and study strongly Deza graphs which are distance-regular. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the effect of applying an exponential window on the limiting spectral distribution (l.s.d.) of the exponentially windowed sample covariance matrix (SCM) of complex array data. We use recent advances in random matrix theory which describe the distribution of eigenvalues of the doubly correlated Wishart matrices. We derive an explicit expression for the l.s.d. of the noise-only data. Simulations are performed to support our theoretical claims

Abstract
This study presents a method based on minimum description length criterion to enumerate the incident waves impinging on a large array using a relatively small number of samples. The proposed scheme exploits the statistical properties of eigenvalues of the sample covariance matrix (SCM) of Gaussian processes. The authors use a number of moments of noise eigenvalues of the SCM in order to separate noise and signal subspaces more accurately. In particular, the authors assume a Marcenko-Pastur probability density function (pdf) for the eigenvalues of SCM associated with the noise subspace. We also use an enhanced noise variance estimator to reduce the bias leakage between the subspaces....

Abstract
This paper presents a scheme to enumerate the incident waves impinging on a high dimensional uniform linear array using relatively few samples. The approach is based on Minimum Description Length (MDL) criteria and statistical properties of eigenvalues of the Sample Covariance Matrix (SCM). We assume that several models, with each model representing a certain number of sources, will compete and MDL criterion will select the best model with the minimum model complexity and maximum model decision. Statistics of noise eigenvalue of SCM can be approximated by the distributional properties of the eigenvalues given by Marcenko-Pastur distribution in the signal-free SCM. In this paper we use random...

Abstract
For a graph G of order n, let λ 2 (G) denote its second smallest Laplacian eigenvalue. It was conjectured that λ 2 (G)+λ 2 (G‾)≥1, where G‾ is the complement of G. For any x∈R n , let ∇ x ∈R (n2) be the vector whose {i,j}-th entry is |x i −x j |. In this paper, we show the aforementioned conjecture is equivalent to prove that every two orthonormal vectors f,g∈R n with zero mean satisfy ‖∇ f −∇ g ‖ 2 ≥2. In this article, it is shown that for the validity of the conjecture it suffices to prove that the conjecture holds for all permutation graphs. © 2019 Elsevier Inc

Abstract
The singular values of a matrix A are defined as the square roots of the eigenvalues of A⁎A, and the energy of A denoted by E(A) is the sum of its singular values. The energy of a graph G, E(G), is defined as the sum of absolute values of the eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix. In this paper, we prove that if A is a Hermitian matrix with the block form A=(BDD⁎C), then E(A)≥2E(D). Also, we show that if G is a graph and H is a spanning subgraph of G such that E(H) is an edge cut of G, then E(H)≤E(G), i.e., adding any number of edges to each part of a bipartite graph does not decrease its energy. Let G be a connected graph of order n and size m with the adjacency matrix A. It is well-known...

Abstract
In this paper the dynamic response of the leg of a tension leg platform (tether) subjected to the load simulated as ocean wave at the top of the leg is presented. The structural model is very simple but several complicated factors such as foundation effect, buoyancy and simulated ocean wave load are considered. Two continuous models are proposed to present the structural system and the mentioned effects. The problem is solved by means of non-harmonic Fourier expansion in terms of eigenfunctions obtained from a non-regular Sturm-Liouville system

Abstract
This paper proposes a novel formula to calculate sensitivities of electromechanical modes to generators active power changes. Quadratic eigenvalue problem is applied to construct the framework of the proposed formula. Sensitivity factors are calculated using power system model parameters and power flow variables, which can be either obtained via state estimation or measured directly by phasor measurement units. The 39-bus New England power system is used to verify performance of the proposed method

Abstract
A three-dimensio111nal boundary element solution for the seepage analysis in multi-domain general anisotropic media has been developed based on the transformation approach. Using analytical eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the hydraulic conductivity tensor, a closed-form coordinate transformation matrix has been provided to transform the quadratic form of governing equation of seepage for the general anisotropic media to the Laplace equation. This transformation allows the analysis to be carried out using any standard BEM codes for the potential theory on the transformed space by adding small pre- and post-processing routines. With this transformation, any physical quantity like the total...

Abstract
Robust stability analysis of multiorder fractional linear time-invariant systems is studied in this paper. In the present study, first, conservative stability boundaries with respect to the eigenvalues of a dynamic matrix for this kind of systems are found by using Young and Jensen inequalities. Then, considering uncertainty on the dynamic matrix, fractional orders, and fractional derivative coefficients, some sufficient conditions are derived for the stability analysis of uncertain multiorder fractional systems. Numerical examples are presented to confirm the obtained analytical results. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Abstract
Bounded-input bounded-output (BIBO) stability of distributed-order linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with uncertain order weight functions and uncertain dynamic matrices is investigated in this paper. The order weight function in these uncertain systems is assumed to be totally unknown lying between two known positive bounds. First, some properties of stability boundaries of fractional distributed-order systems with respect to location of eigenvalues of dynamic matrix are proved. Then, on the basis of these properties, it is shown that the stability boundary of distributed-order systems with the aforementioned uncertain order weight functions is located in a certain region on the complex...
