    Abstract
Background: This research follows some investigations through neural tissue engineering, including fabrication, surface treatment, and evaluation of novel self-stimuli conductive biocompatible and degradable nanocomposite scaffolds. Methods: Gelatin as a biobased material and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as a mechanical, electrical, and piezoelectric improvement agent were co-electrospun. In addition, polyaniline/graphene (PAG) nanoparticles were synthesized and added to gelatin solutions in different percentages to induce electrical conductivity. After obtaining optimum PAG percentage, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment was applied over the best samples by different plasma variable...

Atomistic study of the effect of crystallographic orientation on the twinning and detwinning behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys

    , Article Computational Materials Science ; Volume 203 , 2022 ; 09270256 (ISSN) Fazeli, S ; Izadifar, M ; Dolado, J. S ; Ramazani, A ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Understanding the effect of crystallographic orientation on the twinnin/detwinning mechanisms in NiTi shape memory alloys at an atomistic scale can help to control and tune the mechanical properties and failure behavior of such materials. In this work, we employed classical molecular dynamics (MD) and density functional theory (DFT) computational methods to better understand how twinning and detwinning occurs through a combination of slip, twin, and shuffle on 〈0 1 0〉, 〈1 1 0〉, and 〈1 1 1〉 crystallographic orientations under uniaxial tensile test. Elastic constants including Young's Modulus (E), Bulk modulus (B), Poisson's ratio (ν), and Shear Modulus (G) are obtained and computed for...

Tire tread performance of silica-filled SBR/BR rubber composites incorporated with nanodiamond and nanodiamond/nano-SiO2 hybrid nanoparticle

    , Article Diamond and Related Materials ; Volume 126 , 2022 ; 09259635 (ISSN) Salkhi Khasraghi, S ; Momenilandi, M ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
In the present research, the influence of nanodiamond (ND) and a physical hybrid of ND and fumed nano-SiO2 were investigated on the performance of a typical tire tread compound. The styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and cis-butadiene rubber (BR) blend filled with a commercial grade highly dispersive silica at 70 phr loading were used as typical tire tread compound. ND was substituted partially with silica at two different concentrations of 5 and 10phr. Meanwhile, 5 phr of ND/nano-SiO2 hybrids with the weight ratio of 2.5/2.5 and 1/4 were substituted with silica. ND-Filled compounds exhibit increased scorch and cure time compared to controls. Improvement in different characteristics of the...

Evaluation of whisker alignment and anisotropic mechanical properties of ZK60 alloy reinforced with SiCw during KOBO extrusion method

    , Article Journal of Manufacturing Processes ; Volume 84 , 2022 , Pages 344-356 ; 15266125 (ISSN) Liu, S ; Wang, Y ; Yarigarravesh, M ; Tayyebi, M ; Tayebi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
In current study, microstructure and high-temperature mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloy reinforced by SiC whiskers were investigated after casting, the KOBO extrusion and aging processes. For this purpose, ZK60/SiCw composite specimens were prepared by stir casting technique. In order to achieve a laminar structure and improve the strength, the samples were subjected to KOBO extrusion technique and precipitation hardening, resulting in improved strength and increased ductility. The former is due to grain refining and formation of precipitates in the microstructure, while the latter is attributed to grain refining and formation of laminar structure. To evaluate the strength of the...

Characterizing the effect of fines content on the small strain shear modulus of sand-silt mixtures during hydraulic hysteresis

    , Article 4th International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics, ICTG 2021, 23 May 2021 through 26 May 2021 ; Volume 165 , 2022 , Pages 837-849 ; 23662557 (ISSN); 9783030772338 (ISBN) Jebeli, M ; Mohsen Haeri, S ; Khosravi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Small strain shear modulus, Gmax, is one of the most important parameters for the characterization of the behavior of earth structures subjected to static or dynamic loading conditions. This research presents an experimental laboratory study on the effect of non-plastic fines content and hydraulic hysteresis on the Gmax of unsaturated sandy soils. In this regard, clean Firoozkuh No. 161 silica sand which is classified as poorly graded sand was mixed with different percentages of non-plastic Firoozkuh silt. A set of bender element tests were carried out using two modified triaxial devices. The modifications on these two apparatus were to add HAV ceramic discs for air–water control of...

On the theoretical and molecular dynamic methods for natural frequencies of multilayer graphene nanosheets incorporating nonlocality and interlayer shear effects

    , Article Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures ; Volume 29, Issue 20 , 2022 , Pages 2873-2883 ; 15376494 (ISSN) Nikfar, M ; Taati, E ; Asghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a multiplate nonlocal shear model and molecular dynamic simulations are presented to investigate the effects of interlayer shear and nonlocality on the natural frequencies of multilayer graphene sheets (MLGSs). From one aspect in the optimal design of such structures, the interaction between graphene layers, which can significantly vary the static and dynamic behavior due to lack of solidity of layers stack, should be considered. On the other hand, it is requied that the nonlocality phenomenon which has an effective role in the mechanical analysis of nanostructures is taken into account. To this aim, the equation of motion along with corresponding boundary conditions is...
