    Abstract
Distribution companies are pressurized into investing in many projects for ensuring customer satisfaction and increasing their profitability. There are a lot of feasible projects that may help companies to improve their services, but resources for accomplishing them are limited. Therefore, financial subjects are crucially important for related decision making and budget allocation is a bone of contention between different departments of companies. Project net present value (NPV), which depends on investment, expected annual profit, interest rate and inflation rate, is realistic criterion of project economic value. Interest rate and inflation rate are not predefined coefficients....

    Abstract
Distribution companies try to meet different goals such as increasing profitability, reducing investment and improving reliability indices. Therefore, distribution network planning has converted into complex multi-objective optimization problems. Mathematicians and operation research experts have developed many methods which can be used for solving these problems. Despite all efforts to develop applicable approaches for these problems, there is still no general consensus on project selection policy. Evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each network optimization strategy selection in pragmatic manner is the objective of current research. In this paper, many methods used in network...

    Abstract
The current of outgoing feeders are very important data transmitted over SCADA system. Monitoring of these currents can help dispatching engineers to detect abnormality in energy consumption trend and minor faults in distribution network. Statistical process control (SPC) is one of the capable approaches which can be used for this purpose. Statistical process control is based on categorizing variations into assignable causes and random causes. In current paper we described the methods which were used for finding assignable causes in load trend and short time load variation in Alborz province power distribution company pilot project. Although this approach is not developed completely and some...

Interaction of the dynamics of doubly fed wind generators with power system electromechanical oscillations

    , Article IET Renewable Power Generation ; Volume 7, Issue 2 , March , 2013 , Pages 89-97 ; 17521416 (ISSN) Jafarian, M ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
The interaction of the dynamics of doubly fed wind generators with the electromechanical mode of nearby synchronous generators (SGs) can affect the small signal stability of power systems with high penetration levels of wind power. In this study, a novel approach is developed to investigate these interactions and their impact on the damping of power system oscillations. In this approach it is not necessary to model the dynamic behaviour of system SGs and only the frequencies of system oscillations are important. This approach is based on the sensitivity of SGs electromechanical eigenvalue with respect to variations in the Jacobian matrix of power system. By applying this approach to a test...

The impact of wind farms with doubly fed induction generators on power system electromechanical oscillations

    , Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 50 , 2013 , Pages 780-785 ; 09601481 (ISSN) Jafarian, M ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Introduction of large amounts of new wind generation can affect the small signal stability of power systems with three mechanisms: displacing synchronous generators (SGs); reducing SGs power generation; and the dynamics of wind farms (WFs) interacting with the electromechanical mode of SGs. In this paper a novel approach is developed to investigate the impact of the latter mechanism on existing power systems oscillations. In this approach, the dynamic behavior of grid connected WFs is studied independent of the dynamic behavior of system SGs. This approach helps to identify the conditions in which the dynamics of WFs may interact with the electromechanical mode of SGs. Also it helps to...

PAPR reduction of OFDM signals by novel global harmony search in PTS scheme

    , Article International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting ; Volume 2012 , November , 2012 ; 16877578 (ISSN) Salehinejad, H ; Talebi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique is one of the key strategies for multiuser signal transmission especially in smart grids and wind farms. This paper introduces an approach for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction of such signals based on novel global harmony search (NGHS) and partial transmit sequence (PTS) schemes. In PTS technique, the data block to be transmitted is partitioned into disjoint subblocks, which are combined using phase factors to minimize PAPR. The PTS requires an exhaustive search over all combinations of allowed phase factors. Therefore, with respect to the fast implementation and simplicity of NGHS technique, we could...

    Abstract
In this paper, the participation of wind farms in load frequency control (LFC) is studied. A previously proposed macromodel for the wind farm is employed to regulate its output power. The wind farm including its proposed control strategy is incorporated into the conventional LFC model. The proposed LFC structure is able to dynamically maintain the system frequency at the nominal value against the power imbalances. To achieve proper transient response, the integral control parameter of the LFC controller is optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, several simulation case studies are carried out. The results show that the wind farm can...

    Abstract
Recently in electricity markets, a massive focus has been made on setting up opportunities for participating demand side. Such opportunities, also known as demand response (DR) options, are triggered by either a grid reliability problem or high electricity prices. Two important challenges that market operators are facing are appropriate designing and reasonable pricing of DR options. In this paper, time-of-use program (TOU) as a prevalent time-varying program is modeled linearly based on own and cross elasticity definition. In order to decide on TOU rates, a stochastic model is proposed in which the optimum TOU rates are determined based on grid reliability index set by the operator. Expected...

The optimal solutions in Pareto fronts of different cases are reached, analyzed, and the final solution (optimal plan) of each case is obtained using the fuzzy decision making method. Moreover, in order to analyze the effects of variations in the large-scale wind farm generation on the transmission expansion...
