, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Habibi, Ali (Author) ; Khajehpour, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Air pollution has been one of the most important problems in Tehran in recent years. So that the number of deaths due to air pollution in Tehran reaches more than 7000 cases per year. More than 75% of air pollutant emissions in Tehran city (including 60% of PM2.5 emissions) originate from mobile sources. Considering the harmful effects and damages caused by air pollutants, it is important to examine and evaluate the effects of hybrid-electric vehicles on the emissions of the transportation sector and air quality, especially in areas with a large population and realized high traffic load. On the other hand, the continuous reduction of renewable electricity production costs makes electricity a...

    Abstract

The worldwide increase in greenhouse gases is one of the most important human concerns today, and reducing emissions is on the agenda of politicians and the international community. Globally, the transportation fleet is one of the major sources of environmental pollutants due to the use of fossil fuels, and replacing this fleet with electric vehicles will play an important role in reducing the emission of environmental pollutants. These environmental concerns and the advancement of technologies used in electric vehicles in recent years have led to a relative increase in the presence of electric vehicles in the transportation network. The acceptance of these cars, on the one hand,...

Microgrid Energy Management with Optimal Operation of Electric Vehicles Parkinglots Considering Technical and Social Aspect

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Helmzadeh, Shahrdad (Author) ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The presence of electric vehicle (EV) parking in distribution or microgrids can become a challenging issue for the power grid. If parking operators charge EVs parked in their parking facilities without coordination with the distribution or microgrid operator, they can impose a heavy burden on the grid, resulting in increased costs and problems in the power network. This study aims to address energy management in EV parking facilities in the distribution network by proposing a two-level model. In this two-level model, the high-level problem is the distribution network, and the low-level problem is the parking facility. At the high-level, the distribution network operator tries to maximize...

    Abstract
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles draw electricity from the electrical grid and store energy in their batteries. To increase charge availability for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, on-board chargers can be used, which should be small in size and lightweight. In this article, an on-board bidirectional soft-switched battery charger is proposed that utilizes a phase-shift-controlled dual-bridge series resonant converter with isolation. The bidirectional characteristic of proposed charger makes it suitable for vehicle-to-grid operation (i.e., injecting power from the vehicle to the grid) in smart grids. A switching control scheme is also proposed to provide soft-switching operation for all...

    Abstract
In the past decades, Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) have been increasingly developed. Providing secure and efficient communication is essential in VANETs. One of most important challenges in the secure and efficient communications is proposing an appropriate authentication scheme. In this paper, we suggest an efficient and novel authentication scheme for VANETs. In the proposed scheme, vehicles authenticate each other without any limitation such as need for group of signers, online Road Side Units (RSUs), a set of pseudo identities and tamper-proof devices. Moreover, our simulation shows that the proposed scheme is well designed and efficient. © 2019, © 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

    Abstract
Recently, with the growth and development of distributed generation (DGs) and energy storage systems (ESSs), as well as smart control equipment, microgrids (MGs) have been developed. Microgrids are comprised of a limited number of constitutive parts, including loads, DGs, ESSs, and electric vehicles (EVs). This paper presents a novel scheme to manage active and reactive powers, based on DGs, ESSs, and EVs to reduce the total operation cost including power generation and emission costs. Simultaneous management of active and reactive power makes it possible to consider grid operation constraints together. In the proposed schedule, the vehicles are assumed to be plug-in hybrid electric...

    Abstract
This paper aims to establish a control strategy for parallel hybrid electric vehicles equipped with full-toroidal Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). First, the advantages of CVT are elucidated. Afterwards, a modified control strategy on the base of Baseline static Control Strategy (BCS) is proposed. Employing this strategy, in some moments, the engine operates in its fuel-optimal point to decrease the vehicle Fuel Consumption (FC). It is demonstrated that the modifications in BCS are applicable using a CVT as the power train. In order to investigate the implemented modification, an optimization on the proposed control strategy and BCS in SC03 driving cycle is accomplished and then,...

    Abstract
The electric assist control strategy is one of the well-known methods for managing the power sources of hybrid electric vehicles. Because of the dependence of the electric assist control strategy approach on its parameters, optimization of this strategy can improve its performance, which results in lower fuel consumption and lower emission levels. However, one of the main concerns about optimization of this strategy is its dependence on the driving behaviour. This paper aims to propose a new control strategy based on the electric assist control strategy with a smaller number of control parameters and less dependence on the driving behaviour. This strategy is usable only for vehicles equipped...

    Abstract
This study attempts to present a new and comprehensive cycle for the design of fixed wing micro air vehicles. The idea is to propose a complete cycle containing all micro air vehicles design subjects such as aerodynamics, stability, structure, and navigation. The main aim of the cycle is to decrease the designing time for an optimum design. In this method, the sizing process is started simultaneously, which involves the following cases: specification of mission and aviation plan; determination of planform and aspect ratio; constraint analysis; estimation of plane weight. Completion of these four phases results in the specification of the geometry and dimensions of the wing in an optimum...

    Abstract
Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have been developed as a promising way to decrease the fuel consumption and emissions of conventional vehicles. Although the noise emission of HEVs is generally lower than that of conventional vehicles, it is still an issue, especially in urban transportation. In this paper, a power management strategy is developed to minimize the annoying noise of the engine for an HEV. This is a modified version of the strategy that was originally established based on the speed ratio of continuously variable transmission (CVT) as the control parameter (CVT-based strategy). The engine combustion noise is assessed using the experimental data of the in-cylinder pressure. Also,...

    Abstract
Noise emission from vehicles in urban transportation has become of interest for researchers in addition to the engine exhaust gas emissions due to its significant effect on public health. In this work, an optimal energy management strategy is proposed for a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) by taking the effect of engine noise into account. The engine noise is calculated based on a pressure-based combustion noise model at different operating points of a 1.5 L gasoline engine. The optimal operating points of the engine are defined using the calculated engine noise from in-cylinder pressure data and experimental data of brake specific fuel consumption (FC). A modification on the electric assist...

    Abstract
Plug-In hybrid electric vehicles could be connected to the electrical grid to be recharged. To ease the charging process, one solution could use an on-board charger to charge the electric vehicle battery. This charger should be able to be connected to a conventional outlet for convenience reasons and moreover, it should be a grid friendly charger in order not to pollute the electrical network. Since most of the electric vehicle related projects are at their initial phases, keeping up with the pace and developing new technologies and proposing innovations and concepts will help growing the industry. In this regard, a new integrated bidirectional isolated soft-switched plug-in hybrid electric...
