    Abstract
    Pulse compression is an active research topic in radar systems. A problem in pulse compression is masking of small targets by the range sidelobes of large nearby targets. A new filter structure is introduced here to suppress the sidelobes of radar signals that result from standard matched filtering. The proposed filter is applicable for any type of binary coding signals. Several techniques are used to calculate the filter coefficients such as Wiener filter technique, Lagrange multiplier method, and linear programming (LP) algorithm.     Abstract
    An adaptive extended Kalman filter is designed to estimate the arc length in a gas metal arc welding system. The simulation results show that the estimated variables track the true variables of the non-linear model with negligible error and are robust against parameters uncertainties. The proposed estimator also operates adequately in a highly noisy welding environment. Because of the low computational requirements and little lag produced in the process dynamic, use of the proposed estimator would be valuable in the design of a controller for the gas metal arc welding system

    This work, based on the standard unscented Kalman filter (UKF), proposes a modified UKF for highly non-linear stochastic systems, assuming that the associated probability distributions are normal. In the standard UKF with 2n + 1 sample points, the estimated mean and covariance match the true mean and covariance up to the third order, besides, there exists a scaling parameter that plays a crucial role in minimising the fourth-order errors.     Abstract
    In this paper, we show that an amplitude phase frequency model (APFM) which is used as a nonlinear adaptive filter in signal processing can exhibit chaotic behavior. It is illustrated that both frequency and amplitude of the input components have effect on the filter characteristics which can lead the filter to behave chaotically for some values of these parameters. We have exploited different measures such as the Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagram, sensitivity to initial condition, and 0-1 test on time series to confirm our claim. Existence of the chaotic behavior in APFM does not conform to the prior conjectures about this filter. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Median filtering has received extensive attention from forensics analyzers, as a common content-preserving, smoothing, and denoising manipulation. We propose a detection scheme for median filtering of video sequences in compressed domain based on the singular value decomposition of the process matrix, which approximates the median filtering. Projection over some of the eigenspaces of the process matrix gives a set of features of small dimension, even as small as three, making the proposed scheme a fast and suitable detector for video median filtering.     Abstract
    The design of a complex active-RC filter for low-IF Wireless applications is described. Fifth-order complex Butterworth filter is designed using Class-AB operational amplifier architecture. This new structure makes the filter suitable for low power applications with high dynamic range. Simulation results show that the filter provides more than 40 dB image rejection ratio (IIR) and dynamic range of 82dB. The complete filter including on-chip tuning circuit consumes only 4.3mW with 1.8V single supply voltage. © 2007 IEEE

    Abstract
    Active Queue Management (AQM) policies provide an early indication of incipient congestion to the source. In this paper, we propose a new AQM policy that predicts the instantaneous queue length at next time instant using adaptive filtering technique. To use the algorithm in fast routers, we reduce its computational complexity using a direct method to compute the manipulating signals. We show that adaptive congestion estimation is able to control the oscillations in the instantaneous queue length.     Reverberated speech signals in acoustical environments produces some problems such as reducing speech intelligibility, distinguishing speakers, locating source, quality for hands-free telephony, hearing aid, etc. Adaptive filters can be applied to reduce the reverberation effects or to dereverberate the received speech signals at microphone.     In this paper we present a new landmark initialization technique for Bearing-Only Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm. The initialization scheme is a type of the delayed constrained initialization method and is different from previous approaches. In our work, it is shown that the angle between sequential observations measured by a bearing-only sensor such as pan-tilt camera and the distance between the vehicle and landmark plays an important role in landmark localization accuracy.     In this paper, we propose an efficient method for R-peak detection in noninvasive fetal electrocardiogram (ECG) signals which are acquired from multiple electrodes on mother's abdomen. The proposed method is performed in two steps: first, we employ a robust tensor decomposition-based method for fetal ECG extraction, assuming different heart rates for mother and fetal ECG; then a method based on extended Kalman filter (EKF) in which the ECG beat is modeled by 3 state equations (P, QRS and T), is used for fetal R-peak detection.
