    The deployment of flexible ac transmission system (FACTS) devices, despite miscellaneous benefits and applications, has been restricted mainly due to their large investment costs. Accordingly, the notion of distributed FACTS (D-FACTS) was recently proposed. Distributed static series compensators (DSSCs), as a new member of D-FACTS, are directly clamped to conductors of transmission lines.     A novel architecture for efficient time and frequency synchronization, applied to the long-term evolution (LTE) standard, is proposed. For symbol timing, we propose applying a symbol-folding method on top of the sign-bit reduction technique, leading to a novel algorithm for the cyclic prefix-type recognition in LTE. Following the symbol timing, the fractional carrier frequency offset is estimated and compensated using an adaptive gain loop, which allows for a high-accuracy compensation in a short interval.     It is well known that photonic structures with subwavelength features can be homogenized and thus be accurately approximated by homogeneous yet spatially dispersive structures.     This paper presents an event based scheme for uncompressed video watermarking. The video signal is assumed to be a sequence of overlapping visual components - called events. We address this overlapping structure of video contents and present an event based approach through employing a block based Temporal Decomposition (TD) scheme.     Abstract
    In this paper, a new algorithm for fault detection/location on transmission line based on linear state estimation is presented. The proposed technique uses phasor measurements from PMU's. Fault location and voltage of fault point are added as the new state variables in a linear state estimator based on PMU data. In addition, by using the ability of bad data identification in the state estimation, a new scheme for fault location and identification of faulted transmission line is proposed.     This paper proposes a fuzzy-based speed controller for the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind turbines with the rotor speed and wind speed inputs. The controller parameters are optimized using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. To accelerate tracking the maximum power point trajectory, the conventional controller is augmented with a feed-forward compensator, which uses the wind speed input and includes a high-pass filter.     The unique properties of modified Hermite pulses is utilized to develop a novel pulse technique for Ultra Wideband (UWB) communications. The proposed method increases the bandwidth of the pulse up to 10 GHz and overcomes the coexistence problem of UWB and vulnerable narrowband systems through suppressing narrowband interference.     In this paper we present a blind low frequency watermarking scheme on gray level images, which is based on DCT transform and spread spectrum communications technique. We compute the DCT of non overlapping 8x8 blocks of the host image, then using the DC coefficients of each block we construct a low-resolution approximation image.     In the present paper, the formation of an air bubble in a shear-thinning non-Newtonian fluid was investigated numerically. For modeling, an algebraic volume of fluid (VOF) solver of OpenFOAM ® was improved by applying a Laplacian filter and was evaluated using the experimental results from the literature.     In this paper CCM/CVM operation and modeling of the Sheppard-Taylor topology is reviewed and a predictive control strategy is applied for a Sheppard-Taylor-based power factor correction (PFC) rectifier.     In this paper, an iterative signal reconstruction method is extended to cancel multi-user clipping noise in a uplink MC-CDMA systems. Clipping is the simplest method to overcome high peak-to-average power ratio of multi-carrier signals but it makes the multi-carrier signals distorted. Reconstruction methods use non-distorted samples to reconstruct distorted samples in the receiver but multi-user interference causes the methods do not work properly because all the received samples are distorted by clipping and interference and so there is no undistorted samples to be used in recovering clipped samples.     Artifact removal is an essential part in electroencephalogram (EEG) recording and the raw EEG signals require preprocessing before feature extraction. In this work, we implemented three filtering methods and demonstrated their effects on the performance of different classifiers. Bandpass digital filtering, median filtering and facet method are three preprocessing approaches investigated in this paper. We used data set lib from the BCI competition 2003 for training and testing phase. Our accuracy varied between 80% and 96%.     The paper presents the experimental and analytical model analysis of a steel-girder arch bridge. The field test is carried out by ambient vibration testing under traffic excitations. Both the peak picking method in the frequency domain and the stochastic subspace identification method in the time domain are used for the output-only model identification.
