    Abstract
Zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized and modified by a three-stage method. Elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method were applied to characterize the nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were evaluated for toluene adsorption from aqueous solutions as a representative of petroleum hydrocarbon removal. The optimum adsorption condition achieved at pH of 6 and contact time of 30 min. The adsorption isotherms were fitted to the Langmuir model. The measured adsorption capacity was 12.8 mg g−1. This study demonstrated that these nanoparticles could be used as an...

    Abstract
In this study, a novel hybrid hydrogel based on chitosan, acrylic acid and amine-functionalized nanosilica was prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy. This hydrogel nanocomposite was used for removal of Co2+, Cu2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions from aqueous solution. The metal ion adsorption was measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The adsorption behavior showed that the presence of modified nanosilica enhanced the porosity of the hydrogel network and affected its adsorption capacity in response to different parameters such as nanosilica content, metal ion concentration, adsorbent content,...

    Abstract
Among polymers, polyaniline (PANi) has been introduced as a good candidate for muscle regeneration due to high conductivity and also biocompatibility. Herein, for the first time, we report the use of electrospun nanofibrous membrane of PAN-PANi as efficient scaffold for muscle regeneration. The prepared PAN-PANi electrospun nanofibrous membrane was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Attenuated total reflectance fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and tensile examination. The softer scaffolds of non-composite electrospun nanofibrous PAN govern a higher rate of cell growth in spite of lower differentiation value. On the other hand, PAN-PANi electrospun...

    Abstract
Gadolinium (Gd) and cobalt (Co) substituted Sr–Ba–Cu-based Y-type hexaferrites were synthesized with the help of the sol–gel auto-combustion route. XRD (X-ray diffraction) analysis was done to ratify the phase formation of hexaferrites. The impact of Gd3+ substitutions was measured on all the lattice parameters. Lattice constants “a” and “c” were found between 5.879–5.891 Å and 43.185–43.620 Å, respectively. It was observed from the XRD analysis that with an increase in Gd–Co contents, the enhancement in the average crystallite size is noted. The thermal decomposition process was studied using TGA (thermogravimetric analysis), revealing that the precursor may give the ending product when...

    Abstract
Herein, a novel Pt-APA composite (APA = pyridinium bromide salt) based on magnetic graphene oxide was synthesized and used as an effective catalyst. In this way, Fe3O4 nanoparticles are grown on graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets by a simple and practical method which creates a unique nanostructure (Fe3O4/GO) through dispersing uniformly among graphene nanosheets. The resulted Pt-APA composite was obtained via adding PtCl2 to an ethanol solution of Fe3O4/GO and α-keto stabilized pyridinium ylide in related conditions. The synthesized nanocomposite structure was identified using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive...

Enhanced singlet oxygen production under nanoconfinement using silica nanocomposites towards improving the photooxygenation’s conversion

    Abstract
In this contribution, the effect of physical immobilization of methylene blue (MB) into silica nanocomposites was investigated on the conversion and selectivity of the photooxygenation of anthracene and dihydroartemisinic acid (DHAA). Physically immobilized photocatalysts were synthesized through a developed Stöber method and were thoroughly characterized by UV–Vis, FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, HR-TEM, BET-BJH, and EDX analyses. Based on the TEM and UV–Vis results, it was determined that enhancement of the MB concentration as an organocatalyst for the Stöber reaction led to an increase in the size of the nanoparticles from 54 to 183 nm and a 21 nm blue shift in their UV–Vis spectra. Moreover,...

The effect of Co:Ti molar ratio and annealing temperature were studied on the crystallization behavior and chemical properties of the products. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the powders crystallized at the low annealing temperature of 300 °C for 1 h, containing anatase-TiO2,...

    Abstract
M-type Ce–Co substituted barium hexaferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by sol–gel auto-combustion route. The general formula of ferrites was Ba1−xCexFe12−xCoxO19 in which the x was considered to be: x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3. The formed phases in the samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The results indicated that an increase in substitutional ion amount caused to decrease vibration frequencies of Fe–O band in the tetrahedral site due to the substitution of heavier Co2+ ion for Fe3+ ion in the tetrahedral site. Moreover, some of Ce3+ ions was transformed to Ce4+ and...

XRD analysis confirms the formation of a single W-type hexaferrites phase. The DC electrical resistivity increases with incrementing Ca contents. The morphology of all the hexaferrites shows hexagonal platelet-like structure. The prepared ferrites depict soft magnetic nature with high saturation...
