    Modified carrageenan. 1. H-CarragPAM, a novel biopolymer-based superabsorbent hydrogel

    , Article Journal of Bioactive and Compatible Polymers ; Volume 20, Issue 5 , 2005 , Pages 475-490 ; 08839115 (ISSN) Hosseinzadeh, H ; Pourjavadi, A ; Mahdavinia, G. R ; Zohuriaan Mehr, M. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
A novel kappa-carrageenan (κC)-based superabsorbing hydrogel was synthesized through graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) onto a κC substrate in the presence of a crosslinking agent. The crosslinked κC-poly(AAm) polymer graft was partially hydrolyzed in alkaline medium to yield a superabsorbent resin, H-carragPAM. The resin structure was confirmed using FTIR spectroscopy. The variables of graft copolymerization (monomer, initiator, polysaccharide and crosslinker concentration, reaction temperature and time as well as stirrer speed) that affected on the ultimate water-swelling capacity were optimized. The time-temperature variation of the copolymerization was investigated in terms of...

Photothermal properties of two-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with nanoflower and nanosheet morphology

    , Article Materials Research Bulletin ; Volume 152 , 2022 ; 00255408 (ISSN) Salimi, M ; Shokrgozar, M. A ; Hamid, D. H ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
PEGylated MoS2 nanoflower (MoS2-NF) and nanosheet (MoS2-NS) are synthesized through a one-pot hydrothermal method as photo absorbing agent (PAA). It is found that employing different thiol precursors result in distinct morphologies. The products are structurally, chemically, and morphologically characterized. Electron microscopy demonstrates the formation of sheet and flower morphologies of MoS2. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and thermal gravimetric (TGA) analysis confirm the PEGylation of MoS2 nanostructures. Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the formation of 1T/2H structure of both samples. MoS2-NS demonstrates higher NIR absorption than MoS2-NF with a mass...

The mechanistic investigation on the effect of the crude oil /brine interaction on the interface properties: A study on asphaltene structure

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 360 , 2022 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Taherian, Z ; Saeedi Dehaghani, A ; Ayatollahi, S ; Kharrat, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
Despite many attempts to study the interaction of fluids in low-salinity flooding, they do not examine the principles of interphasic transition phenomena. This study aims to provide a new understanding of liquid–liquid interactions during the low-salinity water interaction through a series of experiments on the oil, emulsion, and aqueous phase. Three samples of crude oils with different asphaltene concentrations and structures with known physical properties are in contact with different solutions. The brine pH, conductivity, and crude oil viscosity experiments before and after contacting the oil with brine showed that the heteroatom concentration and compaction of crude oil asphaltene...

    Abstract
Among polymers, polyaniline (PANi) has been introduced as a good candidate for muscle regeneration due to high conductivity and also biocompatibility. Herein, for the first time, we report the use of electrospun nanofibrous membrane of PAN-PANi as efficient scaffold for muscle regeneration. The prepared PAN-PANi electrospun nanofibrous membrane was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Attenuated total reflectance fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and tensile examination. The softer scaffolds of non-composite electrospun nanofibrous PAN govern a higher rate of cell growth in spite of lower differentiation value. On the other hand, PAN-PANi electrospun...

The results revealed that using equal amounts of two sizes of nano TiO2 promote the antibacterial activity of nano Ag. So, the coating shows strong activity against E. coli. Physical-mechanical properties such as surface hardness, abrasion...

Influence of glycerol and clay contents on biodegradability of corn starch nanocomposites

    , Article International Journal of Engineering, Transactions B: Applications ; Vol. 27, issue. 2 , 2014 , pp. 203-214 ; ISSN: 10252495 Heydari, A ; Alemzadeh, I ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, biodegradation of corn starch/glycerol/Na-MMT nanocomposites by soil burial tests were carried out for up to 6 months. Films were prepared by casting method according to central composite design and response surface methodology was applied for analysis of the results. The effects of formulation on the water solubility, contact angle and tensile strength of starch films were investigated. Increasing in Na-MMT content decreased biodegradability; while presence of glycerol, increased it. The effect of nanoparticles content might have been attributed to interactions between starch and Na-MMT that further prevented enzymatic attack on the biopolymer. In addition, the films with...

    Abstract
The low temperature perovskite-type calcium titanate (CaTiO3) thin films and powders with nanocrystalline and mesoporous structure were prepared by a straightforward particulate sol-gel route. The prepared sol had a narrow particle size distribution about 17 nm. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that, the synthesized powders had highly pure and crystallized CaTiO3 structure with preferable orientation growth along (1 2 1) direction at 400-800 °C. The activation energy of crystal growth was calculated 5.73 kJ/mol. Furthermore, transmission electron microscope images showed that the average crystallite size of the powders annealed at 400 °C was around 3.5...

Colloidal stability of dextran and dextran/poly ethylene glycol coated TiO2 nanoparticles by hydrothermal assisted sol-gel method

    , Article Ceramics International ; Volume 39, Issue 7 , 2013 , Pages 8377-8384 ; 02728842 (ISSN) Naghibi, S ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Faghihi Sani, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Colloidal stability of dextran (Dex) and Dex/poly ethylene glycol (PEG) coated TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were investigated. The particles were successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal assisted sol-gel technique. The results of Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometry showed that Dex and PEG additions during hydrothermal process (HTP) led to the formation of long-term (more than 60 days) stable colloids, while the addition of dispersants after HTP did not have a significant impact on the colloidal stability of NPs. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) analyses proved that PEG and/or Dex coated NPs had less crystallinity than the plain TiO2. Fourier...
