    Abstract
Polystyrene resin was functionalized by diethanolamine for the efficient removal of p-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) from aqueous solution. Functionalized adsorbent (DEA-PS) was characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, point of zero charge measurement and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. According to the results, maximum removal of p-TSA was observed at the pH range of 2.5-5. The adsorption kinetics of p-TSA onto DEA-PS was represented by pseudo-first-order model and the equilibrium data followed Langmuir model well. The adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous, along with the positive change of entropy. The regeneration of DEA-PS was...

    Abstract
The Nafion ionomer affects the efficiency of the platinum (Pt) catalyst by blocking the active sites thereby restricting the gas permeability of the catalyst layer; but, there is a limitation in the quantity of Nafion ionomer that needs to be added without affecting the cell performance. Sulfonation of carbon-supported catalysts as mixed electronic and protonic conductors has been reported to be an efficient way to increase the triple-phase boundaries. In order to improve the utilization and activity of cathodic catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), Pt nanoparticles were loaded on a mixture of Vulcan XC-72R and MWCNTs, which were functionalized in a mixture of 96% sulfuric acid...

    , Article Polymers and Polymer Composites ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , 2010 , Pages 329-336 ; 09673911 (ISSN) Dadbin, S ; Kashcooli, Y ; Frounchi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Compounding electron beam irradiated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE or Teflon) powder with silicone rubber produced silicone rubber/PTFE composites with desired physical properties. PTFE powder was exposed to electron beam irradiation at various doses and characterized by FTIR, DSC and contact angle measurements. Irradiation of PTFE with high energy electron beam induced chain scission reactions. Irradiated PTFE showed higher degree of crystallization and lower melting point with increasing absorbed dose. Number average molecular weight of irradiated PTFE was reduced significantly at higher absorbed doses. Formation of polar groups on the surface of irradiated PTFE powder was detected by FTIR...

    Abstract
In the current work, synthesis of an environmental-sensitive superabsorbent hydrogel using γ-rays is described. Grafted polyacrylonitrile onto a homogeneous solution of starch and kappa-Carrageenan hybrid backbones created a smart material with reversible behavior. The reaction parameters (i.e. acrylonitrile, starch and kappa-Carrageenan concentration, as well as γ-irradiation time) affecting the. water absorbency of the. hydrogel were optimized using the. Taguchi method, in order to achieve a hydrogel with high swelling capacity. FTIR spectroscopy was used for confirming the. structure of the final product and the morphology of the synthesized hydrogel was examined by a scanning electron...

Furthermore, the electrical resistance measurement for Pd/MWNTs films was performed in a chamber with 1% hydrogen gas in a constant dry air flow. Hydrogen sensing behavior of the films was investigated at 50 °C. Pd/MWCNTs films presented an irreversible gas response to hydrogen in the...

Vanadium–Schiff base complex-functionalized SBA-15 as a heterogeneous catalyst: synthesis, characterization and application in pharmaceutical sulfoxidation of sulfids

    , Article Research on Chemical Intermediates ; Volume 42, Issue 12 , 2016 , Pages 8201-8215 ; 09226168 (ISSN) Taghizadeh, M. J ; Karimi, H ; Sadeghi Abandansari, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Netherlands
    Abstract
VO2(picolinichydrazone) complex as a catalyst was stabilized on a SBA-15 mesoporous silica as a catalytic support by using (3-chloropropyl)triethoxysilane as a connector. SBA-15 is nanoporous and has a high ratio of surface area to volume. The immobilization of a metal–Schiff base complex to the surface area of SBA-15 can improve its catalytic effects by increasing the catalytic surface area. Unlike homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysts can be recovered and reused several times without any significant loss of catalytic activity. A vanadium–Schiff base complex-functionalized SBA-15 was synthesized by covalency connected by a pre-synthesised VO2(picolinichydrazone) complex to...

    Abstract
The formation of biomimetic bone-like apatite layers throughout the biopolymer-based hydrogel scaffold is an attractive approach in bone tissue engineering. The fabricated structures were then modified by citric acid to investigate the formation of bone-like apatite layer on the porous citrate-based scaffold after soaking in simulated body fluid (SBF). The Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed that the B-type carbonated apatite has successfully deposited on the scaffold after immersing in SBF for 28 days. Indeed, high chemical...

    , Article Progress in Reaction Kinetics and Mechanism ; Volume 41, Issue 1 , 2016 , Pages 57-66 ; 14686783 (ISSN) Rahman Setayesh, S ; Abolhasani, E ; Ghasemi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Science Reviews 2000 Ltd  2016
    Abstract
TiO2, transition metal (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn)- and aluminum-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel technique. The sulfated catalysts were prepared by the impregnation method with H2SO4 solution. The catalysts were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET surface area measurement, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) techniques. The sulfate content of the metal-incorporated samples was considerably higher than for SO4 2-/TiO2. The metal doping brought about a considerable reduction in the extent of sulfate loss from the catalyst surface due to the wide dispersion on the surface. The SO4 2-/TiO2 and SO4 2-/M/TiO2...

The maximum intracellular PHB concentration obtained was 5.09 g/l, which was 20% (w/w) of the cell dry weight (CDW) after 72 h. Also, the synthesis of PHB was growth associated with the C:N ratio of 153.71. The maximum calculated Yp/s was 0.212 (gr/gr) and the specific...
