    , Article Materials Research Innovations ; Volume 21, Issue 7 , 2017 , Pages 434-438 ; 14328917 (ISSN) Ahmadi, M ; Padervand, M ; Vosoughi, M ; Roosta Azad, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
CuO flower-like microcrystals, prepared by a facile template-free thermal method, showed incredible photocatalytic activity towards degradation of Acid Blue 92 (AB92), an organic wastewater, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus pathogenic bacteria under visible light. The products were well characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) and diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) analysis methods. The XRD pattern of the products well confirmed the formation of copper oxide crystalline phase without any other impurities. The results of the photocatalytic...

A novel and cost-effective method for fabrication of a durable superhydrophobic aluminum surface with self-cleaning properties

    , Article Nanotechnology ; Volume 31, Issue 46 , 2020 Afzali, N ; Taghvaei, E ; Moosavi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    IOP Publishing Ltd  2020
    Abstract
A hierarchical superhydrophobic surface is prepared via a two-step boiling water immersion process and anodization of the treated aluminum substrate in a novel hydrophobic electrolyte of aluminum nitrate and stearic acid mixture at room temperature. The immersion time in boiling water had a significant influence on the morphology and durability of the sample. A pseudoboehmite coating is created on the aluminum surface during the boiling process, as revealed by the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer results. The energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy analysis confirmed the formation of hydrophobic coating surface after...

    Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized through the coprecipitation method on the graphene oxide anchored pencil lead as a substrate for the first time and applied as an efficient sorbent for pseudo stir bar sorptive extraction of nabumetone. The extracted analyte was determined by a novel spectrophotometric method based on the aggregation of silicate sol-gel stabilized silver nanoparticles in the presence of the analyte. The synthesized polymer was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Optimization of important parameters affecting the extraction efficiency was done using central composite design whereas the...

    , Article Journal of Rare Earths ; Volume 36, Issue 1 , 2018 , Pages 72-85 ; 10020721 (ISSN) Adyani, S. M ; Ghorbani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Chinese Society of Rare Earths  2018
    Abstract
High performance Fe-Gd-P tri-doped TiO2 nanoparticles (1 at% for each dopant) were successfully synthesized by a modified sol–gel method. Various analytical and spectroscopic techniques were carried out to determine the physicochemical properties of the prepared samples, including XRD, EDX, FESEM, BET, FTIR, XPS, PL, EIS and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of prepared samples were evaluated by photo degradation of methyl orange (MO) and 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) as model pollutants under visible light irradiation. Effects of each dopant on different properties of TiO2 nanoparticles were investigated. Results show that Gd and P doping enhances TiO2 surface...

Synthesis and characterization of sol-gel derived hydroxyapatite-bioglass composite nanopowders for biomedical applications

    , Article Journal of Biomimetics, Biomaterials, and Tissue Engineering ; Volume 12, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 51-57 ; 16621018 (ISSN) Adibnia, S ; Nemati, A ; Fathi, M. H ; Baghshahi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to prepare and characterize hydroxyapatite (HA)-10%wt bioglass (BG) composite nanopowders and its bioactivity. Composites of hydroxyapatite with synthesized bioglass are prepared at various temperatures. Suitable calcination temperature is chosen by evaluating of the phase composition. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques are utilized to characterize the prepared nanopowders. The bioactivity of the prepared composite samples is evaluated in an in vitro study by immersion of samples in simulated body fluid (SBF) for predicted time. Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and...

Laser irradiation for controlling size of TiO2-Zeolite nanocomposite in removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid herbicide

    , Article Water Science and Technology ; Volume 80, Issue 5 , 2019 , Pages 864-873 ; 02731223 (ISSN) Abdollah, F ; Borghei, S. M ; Moniri, E ; Kimiagar, S ; Panahi, H. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    IWA Publishing  2019
    Abstract
This study focused on the synthesis of TiO2-Zeolite nanocomposite through a sol-gel approach. The decrease in the size of the nanocomposite is considered a primary parameter to improve photocatalytic activity. In this regard, fabricated samples were exposed to laser irradiation (532 nm) for four different time intervals in order to investigate the size variation of the nanocomposite. FTIR, UV-Vis, XRD, DLS, SEM and EDX analyses were applied to characterize and determine the size of the products. An optimized nanocomposite sample, in term of the particle size, was used for photodegradation of 2,4-D herbicide from aqueous solution. Photodegradation was carried out under UV irradiation (12 W)...

    Abstract
The core-shell nanofibers, produced by the coaxial electrospinning method, are good candidates for delivery of anticancer drugs due to their continuous release without initial burst release. In this work, the N-carboxymethyl chitosan (N-CMCS)-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) composite and core-shell nanofibers were prepared by two-nozzle and coaxial electrospinning techniques, respectively. Doxorubicin (DOX) as an anticancer drug was loaded into the N-CMCS/PVA/PCL nanofibers fabricated by two-nozzle and coaxial electrospinning. The performance of nanofibers was compared for the adsorption and controlled release of DOX against MCF-7 breast cancer cells death in vitro. The...

    Abstract
The reduced graphene oxide-Fe2O3 (rGO-Fe2O3) nanocomposites were synthesized by a facile and low-cost hydrothermal method employing rGO and Iron (III) nitrate precursors. The synthesis parameters including the reduction time and presence of reduction aid are studied. The structural and morphological studies of the nanocomposites were investigated by using Raman spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that Fe2O3 nanoparticles with average particle size of 25 nm are well anchored on graphene sheets and the weight percent of the nanoparticles in the nanocomposites was influenced by the reduction...
