    Abstract
The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of molybdenum disulfide on tribological properties of Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). UHMWPE/MoS2 nano-composites were prepared using in-situ polymerization and Ziegler-Natta catalytic system. Studies showed that, in order to obtain the optimum tribological properties, interlayer distance between nanosheets should be as high as possible. Therefore, the nanosheets were subjected to oxidation using the required oxidants followed by thermal shock and ultrasound. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis was used to determine the formation of functional groups which indicate the formation of S═O bond in the...

    , Article Journal of the Textile Institute ; Volume 101, Issue 11 , Sep , 2010 , Pages 988-995 ; 00405000 (ISSN) Payamara, J ; Shahidi, S ; Ghoranneviss, M ; Wiener, J ; Anvari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Polypropylene (PP) has a very low value of the surface free energy (approximately 20-25 mJ m-2). And thus, has very weak hydrophilic properties and doesn't have any affinity to any dyestuffs, such as cationic or anionic dyes. In this study, we covered some parts of PP fabrics by mask, and then irradiated them by electrons with different energies. After electron irradiation, the samples were dyed by cationic dyestuff. The result showed that, electron irradiated parts could be dyed easily and the fabric could be printed and decorated simply. The treated surfaces were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), reflective spectrophotometery, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy...

    Abstract
Although important advances have been acquired in the field of electrocatalysis, the design and fabrication of highly efficient and stable non-noble earth-abundant metal catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) remain a significant challenge. In this study, we have designed a superior bifunctional catalyst for OER and HER in alkaline media based on the Co-Mo-P/Zn-Co-S multicomponent heterostructure. The as-prepared multicomponent heterostructure was successfully obtained via a simple three-step hydrothermal-sulfidation-electrodeposition process consisting of star-like Co-Zn-S covered with Co-Mo-P. The structure and morphology evaluation of the...

    Abstract
Protein aggregation, such as amyloid fibril formation, is molecular hallmark of many neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Prion disease. Indole alkaloids are well-known as the compounds having the ability to inhibit protein fibrillation. In this study, we experimentally and computationally have investigated the anti-amyloid property of a derivative of a synthesized tetracyclic indole alkaloid (TCIA), possessing capable functional groups. The fibrillation reaction of Hen White Egg Lysozyme (HEWL) was performed in absence and presence of the indole alkaloid. For quantitative analysis, we used Thioflovin T binding assay which showed ~50% reduction in fibril...

    Abstract
Herein, functionalized spiro[indoline-3,5′-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine]-7′-carbonitrile containing two contiguous chiral stereocenters was efficiently synthesized in a satisfactory yield (up to 91% yield) and with excellent diastereoselectivity. We have reached this satisfactory yield by DABCO-catalyzed [3+3] annulation reactions of an isatin N,N′-cyclic azomethine imine 1,3-dipole with a Knoevenagel intermediate in dichloromethane (DCM) as solvent at ambient temperature; this was an entirely new strategy for creating one quaternary stereogenic center at the position-3 of an oxindole structure using an abnormal tandem Michael addition, N-cyclization, and a unique approach via the azomethine...

    Abstract
In this study, antibacterial activity, biocompatibility, and corrosion resistance of 316 LVM implants were improved using the development of HAp/GO/Ag nanocomposite coatings by the dip-coating method. The XRD and FTIR results confirmed the synthesis of HAp/GO/Ag nanocomposites. HAp/Ag nanoparticles (68 nm) bound to epoxy, hydroxyl, and carboxyl functional groups on GO sheets (size of GO sheets varies from 255 to 1480 nm) by electrostatic interaction. FESEM images showed that HAp/GO/Ag coatings had higher density and fewer micro-cracks than pure HAp coatings. In addition, HAp/GO/Ag coatings showed optimized nano-hardness (4.5 GPa) and elasticity modulus (123 GPa). The results of...

    Abstract
Chitosan/bacterial cellulose composite films containing diamond nanoparticles (NDs) with potential application as wound dressing are introduced. Microstructural studies show that NDs are uniformly dispersed in the matrix, although slight agglomeration at concentrations above 2 wt % is seen. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy reveals formation of hydrogen bonds between NDs and the polymer matrix. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates reduced crystallinity of the polymer matrix in the presence of NDs. Approximately 3.5-fold increase in the elastic modulus of the composite film is obtained by the addition of 2 wt % NDs. The results of colorimetric analysis show that the composite films are...

    Abstract
Silk fibroin (SF) has been broadly applied in wound dressing fabrication because of its proper features for wound healing. In this work, we developed a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/gelatin blend film with different concentrations of glycerol, and modified the optimized film with an SF layer through electrospinning process. Tensile strength and cell viability evaluation of blend films demonstrated that the glycerol content of 3% could be suitable as the substrate layer for the two-layer wound dressing. The morphology of the blend film and electrospun nanofibers was obtained from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It concluded that...
