Motion blur identification in noisy images using fuzzy sets

    , Article 5th IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology, Athens, 18 December 2005 through 21 December 2005 ; Volume 2005 , 2005 , Pages 862-866 Moghaddam, M. E ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
Motion blur is one of the most common blurs that degrades images. Restoration of such images are highly dependent to estimation of motion blur parameters. Many researchers have developed algorithms to estimate linear motion blur parameters. These algorithms are different in their performance, time complexity, precision and their robustness in noisy environments. In this paper we have presented a novel algorithm to estimate linear motion blur parameters such as direction and extend by using Radon transform to find direction and fuzzy set concepts to find its extend. The most benefit of this algorithm is its robustness and precision in noisy images. Our method was tested on a wide range of...

    Abstract
Radiographic inspection is one of the most appreciated techniques among non-destructive testing methods due to the production of a film which acts as a unique fingerprint record. Converting radiographs to a digital format and further digital image processing is the best method of enhancing the image quality and assisting the interpreter on his evaluation. In this research, different algorithms were used for image enhancement and radiograph interpretation in MATLAB environment. A graphical user interface (GUI) was created for implementation of different algorithms. Both spatial and frequency domains techniques were used for image enhancement. The main enhancement technique was a spatial...

A discrete model for response estimation of soil-structure systems with embedded foundations

    , Article Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration ; Volume 10, Issue 2 , June , 2011 , Pages 263-276 ; 16713664 (ISSN) Khodabakhshi, P ; Jahankhah, H ; Ghannad, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The need for simplified physical models representing frequency dependent soil impedances has been the motivation behind many researches throughout history. Generally, such models are generated to capture impedance functions in a wide range of excitation frequencies, which leads to relatively complex models. That is while there is just a limited range of frequencies that really influence the response of the structure. Here, a new methodology based on the response-matching concept is proposed, which can lead to the development of simpler discrete models. The idea is then used to upgrade an existing simple model of surface foundations to the case of embedded foundations. The applicability of...

Identifiability of fractional order systems using input output frequency contents

    , Article ISA Transactions ; Volume 49, Issue 2 , Apr , 2010 , Pages 207-214 ; 00190578 (ISSN) Nazarian, P ; Haeri, M ; Tavazoei, M. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In this paper, issues related to the identifiability of a fractional order system having its input and output frequency contents are discussed. The effects of the commensurate order α in the identifiability of the model structure and model parameters are analytically studied. It is shown that both identifiabilities (model structure and model parameters) are reduced remarkably for smaller values of α. This phenomenon is observed even though the input signals are rich enough and system belongs to the model set. Our understanding is that the problem arises since differences among different members of the model set fall beyond the practically recognizable precision range. The issue is more...

    , Article International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology ; Volume 15, Issue 12 , 2018 , Pages 2531-2544 ; 17351472 (ISSN) Bahramiasl, S ; Abbaspour, M ; Karimirad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Limited fossil resources, daily increasing rate of demand for energy and the environmental pollution fact have made people revert to renewable sources of energy as a solution. One type of renewable energy is offshore wind energy which has high potential without any sound and visual noises. Recently, a lot of researchers have carried out on the issue of offshore wind turbine. Because of incapability of most of software programs to simulate gyroscopic effect of rotating rotors, in this articles a significant effort has been made to fabricate and test an offshore wind turbine under different rotor rotation velocities and different heading angle of wind so as to obtain the effects of these...

An efficient partial discharge pattern recognition method using texture analysis for transformer defect models

    , Article International Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems ; Volume 28, Issue 7 , February , 2018 ; 20507038 (ISSN) Rostaminia, R ; Saniei, M ; Vakilian, M ; Mortazavi, S. S ; Parvin Darabad, V ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) measurement is one of the best methods for condition monitoring of transformers. In this paper, we use 5 different types of defects as follows: scratch on winding insulation, bubble in oil, moisture in insulation paper, a very small free metal particle in the transformer tank, and a fixed sharp metal point on the transformer tank, for our PD-related studies. Each type of defect is implemented into 1 of the 5 identical transformer models, which had been developed in the authors' recent work. The continuous wavelet transform is applied to each related measured time-domain PD signals. This process results in an image, for each PD pulse in the time-frequency domain. Using...

Equivalence of the Lagrange interpolator for uniformly sampled signals and the scaled binomially windowed shifted sinc function

    , Article Digital Signal Processing: A Review Journal ; Volume 19, Issue 5 , 2009 , Pages 838-842 ; 10512004 (ISSN) Jahani Yekta, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
The maximally flat (MF) fractional delay (FD) filter which is in fact a Lagrange interpolator for uniformly sampled signals, has previously been shown to be equal to the scaled binomially windowed shifted version of the sinc function; the ideal interpolation kernel for band-limited signals. In this paper, another proof for this equivalence is presented. Unlike its counterparts available in the literature, the proof given here is neither strictly algebraic, nor deploys the explicit coefficient formulas of the MFFD filter. It follows a frequency domain approach based on the definition of this filter instead, and aims to provide more insight into the corresponding equivalence. © 2009 Elsevier...

Beamforming, null-steering, and simultaneous spatial and frequency domain filtering in integrated phased array systems

    , Article AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications ; Volume 110 , 2019 ; 14348411 (ISSN) Karami, P ; Atarodi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier GmbH  2019
    Abstract
In the case that phased array systems are not capable of attenuating interferences, Radio Frequency (RF) front-ends and Analog Digital Converters (ADCs) with a large dynamic range are required to avoid saturation of the receiver. This leads to a higher power consumption. In this paper, employing N-path circuits in Mixer-First receivers, a novel method is introduced in which spatial and frequency blockers are eliminated right before entering the system on the antennas input. In fact using this technique, adjustable spatial notch filter and band-pass frequency filter are implemented to suppress spatial and frequency interferences. The proposed method enhances the robustness and effectiveness...

    Abstract
Using a combination of the pole placement and online empirical mode decomposition (EMD) methods, a new algorithm is proposed for adaptive active control of structural vibration. The EMD method is a time-frequency domain analysis method that can be used for nonstationary and nonlinear problems. Combining the EMD method and Hilbert transform, which is called Hilbert-Huang transform, achieves a method that can be implemented to extract instantaneous properties of signals such as structural response dominant instantaneous frequencies. In the proposed algorithm, these estimated instantaneous properties are utilized to improve the pole-placement method as an adaptive active control technique. The...

    , Article 2007 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing and Communications, ICSPC 2007, Dubai, 14 November 2007 through 27 November 2007 ; 2007 , Pages 1127-1130 ; 9781424412365 (ISBN) Khademi, N ; Akhaee, M. A ; Ahadi, S. M ; Moradi, M ; Kashi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
In this paper, our main purpose is to embed data in the frequency domain of audio signals. Data was embedded by means of Quantization Index Modulation (QIM) in the frequency domain. With this aim, the spectrum of the audio signal was divided into two parts. The first part consisted of the first 19 Barks and the second included the remaining 6 Barks. Each of these parts had a different quantization step size. In order to have large quantization step sizes which yield more robustness, Human Auditory System (HAS) has been used. Decoder detects the watermark signal, without using the original audio signal. Simulation results have shown that this watermarking scheme has better robustness against...

A shooting approach to the scaled boundary finite element equations of elastodynamics in the frequency domain

    , Article Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering ; Volume 387 , 2021 ; 00457825 (ISSN) Daneshyar, A ; Sotoudeh, P ; Ghaemian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2021
    Abstract
Dealing with numerical analysis of problems, especially ones with semi-infinite boundaries, scaled boundary finite element method has emerged as one of the efficient tools for the task. Combining the exactness of strong forms with the flexibility of weak formulations makes the method an improvement to its predecessors. Problem with the method arises when the analytical solution of the semi-discretized system is not available, which is the case for numerous problems. In the most recent attempt to solve the issue, a shooting method was proposed for elastostatic problems. Generality of the method removes any concerns regarding the type of governing equations since it no longer needs any...

    Abstract
This study proposes a new method for the detection of a weak scatterer among strong scatterers using prior-information ultrasound (US) imaging. A perfect application of this approach is in vivo cell detection in the bloodstream, where red blood cells (RBCs) serve as identifiable strong scatterers. In vivo cell detection can help diagnose cancer at its earliest stages, increasing the chances of survival for patients. This work combines time-domain US with frequency-domain compressive US imaging to detect a 20-μ MCF-7 circulating tumor cell (CTC) among a number of RBCs within a simulated venule inside the mouth. The 2D image reconstructed from the time-domain US is employed to simulate the...

    , Article Proceedings of the 38th Annual Symposium of Ultrasonic Industry Association, UIA 2009, 23 March 2009 through 25 March 2009, Vancouver, BC ; 2009 ; 9781424464296 (ISBN) Hajihasani, M ; Farjami, Y ; Gharibzadeh, S ; Tavakkoli, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Nonlinear ultrasound modeling is finding an increasing number of applications in both medical and industrial areas where due to high pressure amplitudes the effects of nonlinear propagation are no longer negligible. Taking nonlinear effects into account makes the ultrasound beam analysis more accurate in these applications. One of the most widely used nonlinear models for propagation of 3D diffractive sound beams in dissipative media is the KZK (Khokhlov, Kuznetsov, Zabolotskaya) parabolic nonlinear wave equation. Various numerical algorithms have been developed to solve the KZK equation. Generally, these algorithms fall into one of three main categories: frequency domain, time domain and...

Damage Detection of Offshore Jacket Platforms Using Fitting Vibration Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahador, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Ali Akbar, Golafshani (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the regard of structural health monitoring the identification of the structural modal parameters is essential. Since the different sources (wind, waves, Devices …) induce vibration on an offshore platform, it is impossible to determine the portion of each source in vibration. Thus the methods that analyze vibrations needless of input measurements are more efficient. These methods apply the ambient factors and obtain the modal properties from the structural response. This procedure has no unwanted effect on the serviceability of structure and by placement of sensors on the platform; one can monitor the structural health.
In the present work a two dimensional jacket offshore platform...

Analytical Design of Fixed-structure Fractional-order Controllers in Frequency Domain

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sayyaf, Negin (Author) ; Tavazoei, Mohammad Saleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the simplicity and generality, design of feedback control systems in the frequency domain is among the most prominent topics in the control systems engineering. The problem of compensation means properly adjusting the loop frequency response at critical frequencies. Considering the point that the traditional methods usually use trial and error procedures for compensation, analytical design of fixed-structure controllers for exactly adjusting such values has great importance. Benefitting from the capability of fractional-order dynamics, the compensation problem is studied from three aspects in this thesis. At first according to the importance of adjusting the system frequency response...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babamir, Mehrdad (Author) ; Sharif Bakhtiar, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A new analytic method for class E power amplifiers in the frequency domain is presented. Closed form and fairly simple equations in terms of the circuit components for the output power at the carrier frequency and its harmonics as well as the power efficiency with its sensitivity to the load resistance and other circuit components are derived. This provides the facility to directly calculate the circuit components for the desired operation. Using the proposed model, equations to satisfy maximum power efficiency are derived. Also, a design guide based on a novel scaling method to facilitate the design procedures for the given constraints and conditions are presented. In the next step, a...
