    Abstract
In the past decade, fuzzy logic has been widely used to manage uncertainty in games. In this paper, we employ fuzzy logic to determine the priority of a payoff using linguistic preference relation. Preferences are derived according to the difference between payoffs using fuzzy IF-THEN rule. We introduce the concept of linguistic Nash equilibrium based on priority of each payoff. We assign a fuzzy set type2 to each cell to determine how much a cell has possibility to have a specific degree of being Nash. © 2008 IEEE

    Abstract
In this paper, we will discuss two special classes of mathematical programming models with fuzzy random variables. In the first model, a linear programming problem with fuzzy decision variables and fuzzy random coefficients is introduced. Then an algorithm is developed to solve the model based on fuzzy optimization method and fuzzy ranking method. In the second model, a fuzzy random quadratic spanning tree problem is presented. Then the proposed problem is formulated and solved by using the scalar expected value of fuzzy random variables. Furthermore, illustrative numerical examples are also given to clarify the methods discussed in this paper

    Abstract
Estimating the depth of anesthesia (DOA) is still a challenging area in anesthesia research. The objective of this study was to design a fuzzy rule based system which integrates electroencephalogram (EEG) features to quantitatively estimate the DOA. The proposed method is based on the analysis of single-channel EEG using frequency and time domain methods. A clinical study was conducted on 22 patients to construct subsets of reference data corresponding to four well-defined anesthetic states: awake, moderate anesthesia, surgical anesthesia and isoelectric. Statistical analysis of features was used to design input membership functions (MFs). The input space was partitioned with respect to the...

    Abstract
The present paper applies fuzzy logic technique to predict the performance map of an axial compressor. This technique relies on employing the information of a data curve in concert with the information at the design point. Further, the learning capability of ANN technique is integrated to the potential of fuzzy logic. A comparison of the predicted results with experimental data reveals a very good agreement. The proposed technique has not only the capability to model the nonlinear surge line as well as the kink in a classical compressor performance map but also it can be used as an alternative tool to foresee the effect of modification of design variables, as well as to guide the design...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine ; Volume 8, Issue 2 , 2004 , Pages 182-190 ; 10897771 (ISSN) Aydin, N ; Marvasti, F ; Markus, H. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
Asymptomatic circulating emboli can be detected by Doppler ultrasound. Embolic Doppler ultrasound signals are short duration transient like signals. The wavelet transform is an ideal method for analysis and detection of such signals by optimizing time-frequency resolution. We propose a detection system based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and study some parameters, which might be useful for describing embolic signals (ES). We used a fast DWT algorithm based on the Daubechies eighth-order wavelet filters with eight scales. In order to evaluate feasibility of the DWT of ES, two independent data sets, each comprising of short segments containing an ES (N = 100), artifact (N = 100) or...

    Abstract
Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) plant is a multivariable, nonlinear and non minimum phase system, which control of this plant, is very difficult. This paper presents a new approach to control of HVAC system. The proposed method is a hybrid of fuzzy logic and PID controller. Simulation results show that this control strategy is very robust, flexible and alternative performance. To evaluate the usefulness of the proposed method, we compare the response of this method with PID controller. The simulation results show that our method has the better control performance than PID controller

    Abstract
Human mind from system perspective deals with high dimensional complex world as an adaptive Multi-Input Multi-Output complex system. This view is theorized by reductionism theory in philosophy of mind, where the world is represented as logical combination of simpler sub-systems for human so that operate with less energy. On the other hand, Human usually uses linguistic rules to describe and manipulate his expert knowledge about the world; the way that is well modeled by Fuzzy Logic. But how such a symbolic form of knowledge can be encoded and stored in plausible neural circuitry? Based on mentioned postulates, we have proposed an adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy machine in order to model a rule-based...

Designing a fuzzy logic controller for a quadruped robot using human expertise extraction

    , Article 2013 21st Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2013 ; 2013 , 14-16 May ; 9781467356343 (ISBN) Zand, R. M ; Shouraki, S. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Many actions have been taken by researchers to design an appropriate controller for a quadruped robot. These efforts can be divided into two main categories: analytical and intelligent methods. The analytical method is based on the motion equations of the robot which are mostly complicated. These complication leads to difficulty in implementation. In contrast, there exists intelligent method which is based on the learning algorithms. Despite lots of improvements in the controlling of the quadruped robots, their ability of walking is still far less from the four legged animals' capability. Many researchers believe that four legged animals owe this priority to the learning attribute. Therefore...

    Abstract
In this paper, a new method based on Fuzzy theory is presented to estimate the occurrence possibility of vapor cloud explosion (VCE) of flammable materials. This new method helps the analyst to overcome some uncertainties associated with estimating VCE possibility with the Event Tree (ET) technique. In this multi-variable model, the physical properties of the released material and the characteristics of the surrounding environment are used as the parameters specifying the occurrence possibility of intermediate events leading to a VCE. Factors such as area classification, degree of congestion of a plant and release rate are notably affecting the output results. Moreover, the proposed method...

    Abstract
Forecasting is a challenging problem in highly nonlinear dynamic systems. The main goal in development of forecasting models in complex systems is to produce a model that can accurately behave similar to the main system. In problems such as air pollution forecasting, the presence of uncertainties and nonlinearities affects the model's precision. In this paper, ozone concentration, which is well-known as an index for air pollution is forecasted using neuro-fuzzy models. Causal variables are integrated in the models in order to enhance the model's performance. The results are compared to a fuzzy logic approach to demonstrate reliability and accuracy of the proposed model using real observed...

    Abstract
In this paper a fuzzy controller is developed for automatic landing of fixed wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). It is assumed that the vehicle has a built in vision system which provides the runway relative position and orientation to be used in the designed tracking system. The stability of the controller was analyzed through vector field diagrams, and the system performance is tested through a complete 6DOF computer simulation. The results show a satisfactory performance of the controller all through the automatic landing phase. ©2009 IEEE

Observer-based adaptive fuzzy controller for uncertain non-strict state-delayed nonlinear systems subject to input and output constraints

    Abstract
This paper addresses the design of an observer-based adaptive fuzzy controller for a class of uncertain non-strict nonlinear systems subject to time-delays, unknown direction, input saturation, and output constraint. The Barrier Lyapunov Function (BLF) has been utilized to keep the system output inside the desired bounds. The state and input delays have been handled by using the Lyapunov–Krasovskii function and including an integral compensator term in the controller, respectively. A state observer has been designed to estimate the unmeasured states. The Lipschitz condition for proving boundedness of the estimated states has been relaxed. The Nussbaum gain function has been exploited to deal...

    Abstract
People use trust to cope with uncertainty which is a result of the free will of others. Previous approaches for inferring trust have focused on homogeneous relationships and attempted to infer missing information based on existing information in a single relationship. In this paper we propose using methods of social network analysis to infer trust in a heterogeneous social network. We have extended the problem of relation extraction and allowed using any type of binary operator on matrixes, whereas previous work have focused on linear combination of base matrixes (the only allowed operator was summation of two matrixes). We present two genetic algorithms which use ordinary numerical and...

    Abstract
As wind energy is becoming one of the fastest-growing renewable energy resources, controlling large-scale wind turbines remains a challenging task due to its system model nonlinearities and high external uncertainties. The main goal of the current work is to propose an intelligent control of the wind turbine system without the need for model identification. For this purpose, a novel model-independent nonsingular terminal sliding-mode control (MINTSMC) using the basic principles of the ultra-local model (ULM) and combined with the single input interval type-2 fuzzy logic control (SIT2-FLC) is developed for non-linear wind turbine pitch angle control. In the suggested control framework, the...

Designing and Implementing a Multi-View Face Recognition System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shoja Ghiass, Reza (Author) ; Fatemizadeh, Emadoddin (Supervisor) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis presents a novel approach for detection and recognition of multi-view faces whose location is unknown and the illumination conditions are varying. The illumination is a big problem in the face detection and recognition aspects. Two completely different methods are proposed for face detection in this thesis. Our proposed methods do not use the skin colour information for face detection. The detection of faces is accomplished after cancelling the effect of the various illumination conditions. Because of the independency of the approaches to the face’s skin colour, persons with every kind of skin colours are detected even in completely dark environments. Next, the detected faces are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Lotfi, Maryam (Author) ; Houshmand, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research ,lean and agile indexes in S.G.S Co. are evaluated. This company is the first company in engineering and supplying automotive parts as well as the first supply chain management and organization of Saipa Group. In the part of evaluating the lean management level it is the developed model of the suggested approach by Jackson “implementing a lean management system” (Jackson, 1996). As S.G.S is engaged in servicing activities not in production, we have changed some factors in Jackson's methodology. Different with the last model, we got the results and used AHP method for getting the level in each key. Finally by using another AHP the lean index of the S.G.S Co. was identified....

Fuzzy Decoupling of Nonlinear Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikbakhsh, Sarah (Author) ; Bozorgmehri, Ramin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many processes in the real world are multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. There are often some interactions between the inputs and outputs. In the other words, every input affects on several outputs, and every output is affected by several inputs. In order to control of these systems, we usually desire to decouple the loops into multiple non-interacting SISO systems after proper pairing of manipulated and controlled variables. Loop interactions can destabilize a control system, so tuning controllers in an interacting MIMO system can be difficult. Decoupling problem has been discussed in the two domains: linear control and nonlinear control. However, both of them need an exact model...
