    , Article Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China (English Edition) ; Volume 32, Issue 7 , 2022 , Pages 2216-2228 ; 10036326 (ISSN) ROUEIN, Z ; Jafari, H ; Pishbin, F ; Mohammadi, R ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Nonferrous Metals Society of China  2022
    Abstract
The biodegradation behavior of Mg, coated by polymethyl methacrylate as well as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)−bioactive glass (BG) composite was investigated. Electrophoretic deposition and dip coating techniques were adopted to prepare composite coating using a suspension of different percentages of the above two chemical materials. The deposited coatings were characterized using SEM, EDS, FTIR, and water contact angle measurements. Biodegradation behavior study of the coated Mg was performed using linear polarization, impedance spectroscopy, and immersion tests in simulated body fluid. The compact and homogeneous composite coating was developed as evidenced by electron microscopy results....

Evaluation of whisker alignment and anisotropic mechanical properties of ZK60 alloy reinforced with SiCw during KOBO extrusion method

    , Article Journal of Manufacturing Processes ; Volume 84 , 2022 , Pages 344-356 ; 15266125 (ISSN) Liu, S ; Wang, Y ; Yarigarravesh, M ; Tayyebi, M ; Tayebi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In current study, microstructure and high-temperature mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloy reinforced by SiC whiskers were investigated after casting, the KOBO extrusion and aging processes. For this purpose, ZK60/SiCw composite specimens were prepared by stir casting technique. In order to achieve a laminar structure and improve the strength, the samples were subjected to KOBO extrusion technique and precipitation hardening, resulting in improved strength and increased ductility. The former is due to grain refining and formation of precipitates in the microstructure, while the latter is attributed to grain refining and formation of laminar structure. To evaluate the strength of the...

Effect of heat treatment parameters on microstructure, defects, and properties of Al-16Si-6Cu automotive shift fork: quantitative evaluation perspective

    , Article International Journal of Cast Metals Research ; Volume 35, Issue 1-3 , 2022 , Pages 60-72 ; 13640461 (ISSN) Farahany, S ; Abazari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis Ltd  2022
    Abstract
The current study investigated the effect of heat treatment parameters, including solution treatment temperature (STT), time, and quench rate, on the microstructure, defects, and hardness of an Al-16Si-6Cu Shift fork die-cast alloy. The changes in primary silicon particle (PSP) features were examined quantitatively by optical microscopy, coupled with image analysis and SEM equipped with EDS. The biggest PSPs (27 ± 8 µm) and the highest area fraction (23%) were found in the sample solution treated at 470°C and cooled in the furnace. The hardness value increased in heat-treated samples slightly (140–148 BHN). A lower STT (420°C) and a lower ageing time (1 h) are suitable conditions for the...

Effect of crystallographic texture and twinning on the corrosion behavior of Mg alloys: A review

    , Article Journal of Magnesium and Alloys ; Volume 10, Issue 2 , 2022 , Pages 313-325 ; 22139567 (ISSN) Gerashi, E ; Alizadeh, R ; Langdon, T. G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Magnesium and its alloys have gained significant popularity due to their light weight and their potential for use as bioresorbable materials. However, their application is limited in practice due to their relatively poor corrosion resistance. Several methods are available for improving the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys for bio-applications such as using different coatings, alloying, and modifying the microstructural parameters such as the grain size and the crystallographic texture. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the effects of crystallographic texture and twinning, as one of the most important deformation mechanisms of Mg and Mg alloys, on the corrosion behavior....

Encapsulation of spinel CuCo2O4 hollow sphere in V2O5-decorated graphitic carbon nitride as high-efficiency double Z-type nanocomposite for levofloxacin photodegradation

    , Article Journal of Hazardous Materials ; Volume 423 , 2022 ; 03043894 (ISSN) Hasanvandian, F ; Shokri, A ; Moradi, M ; Kakavandi, B ; Rahman Setayesh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
In this study, spinel CuCo2O4 (CCO) with a hierarchical hollow sphere morphology was encapsulated in V2O5-decorated ultra-wrinkled graphitic carbon-nitride (VO-UCN) for the first time via a facile glycerol-assisted solvothermal method in the interest of developing a novel high-efficiency double Z-type nano-photocatalyst (denoted as VO-UCN@CCO). The remarkable physicochemical features of the as-prepared nano-photocatalysts were verified using diverse characterization techniques including TGA, XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, BET, UV–vis DRS, PL, EIS, and transient photocurrent techniques. Herein, VO-UCN@CCO nanocomposite was employed for the photodisintegration of levofloxacin (LVOF) antibiotic under...

    Abstract
Green biomaterials play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases as well as health-related problem-solving. Typically, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical strength are requirements centered on biomaterial engineering. However, in-hospital therapeutics require an elaborated synthesis of hybrid and complex nanomaterials capable of mimicking cellular behavior. Accumulation of hazardous cations like K+ in the inner and middle ear may permanently damage the ear system. We synthesized nanoplatforms based on Allium noeanum to take the first steps in developing biological porous nanomembranes for hazardous cation detection in biological media. The...
