Abstract
Just a few investigations have been conducted to study the mixed nanofluids(MNs), which contain more than one type of nanoparticles, despite considerable advances in the field of nanofluids thermal conductivity. In present research, by combining different volume fractions of various nanoparticles, the variation of mixed nanofluids thermal conductivity was considered. The mentioned nanofluids have different fabrication cost. First, the effect of each specific nanoparticle presence in the base fluid on the thermal conductivity of nanofluid was surveyed both experimentally and theoretically. Then, the thermal conductivities of two MNs, one consisted of a metallic nanoparticle (high thermal...

Abstract
Supported iron oxide nanoparticles are found to be efficient and recoverable catalyst in the selective oxidation of thiols to their corresponding disulfides using hydrogen peroxide as green oxidant at room temperature. The protocol features an easy work-up, simplicity and the utilizing mild reaction conditions, as well as high selectivity toward disulfides, are highly advantageous compared to alternative reported methodologies. The supported iron oxide nanoparticles could be easily recovered and reused several times without any loss of activity. ICP-MS results prove that there is no metal leaching observed, and demonstrating the stability of the catalyst under the reaction conditions

Abstract
Green and simple synthesis strategies have gained tremendous popularity for the production of anisotropically-shaped noble metallic nanoparticles. The long-term stability of the produced particles, the short timescale of the target reaction(s), as well as the use of non-toxic chemicals, are pivotal features of a useful green procedure. Herein we describe a simple and convenient wet-chemical approach to synthesize stable, non-toxic and water-soluble small gold nanotriangles (GNTs) and gold nanospheres (GNSs) in one step at room temperature, using Tween 20 and Tween 80, respectively. A high level of purity and monodispersity was obtained for the GNTs, in addition to an excellent colloidal...

Abstract
Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) were synthesized and coated with pseudopolyrotaxanes (PPRs) and proposed as a novel hybrid nanostructure for medical imaging and drug delivery. PPRs were prepared by addition of α-cyclodextrin rings to functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain with hydrophobic triazine end-groups. Non-covalent interactions between SPIONs and PPRs led to the assembly of SPIONs@PRs hybrid nanomaterials. Measurements of the 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) relaxation times T1 and T2 allowed us to determine the NMR dispersion profiles. Comparison between our SPIONs@PRs hybrid nano-compound and the commercial SPION compound, Endorem®, showed a higher...

Abstract
Three strategies were employed for the assembly of gold nanoparticles on silica-coated magnetite particles (SCMPs). In strategy I, citrate-coated gold nanoparticles were attached on the surface of amine-SCMPs. In strategy II, amine-SCMPs were coated with carboxylated gold nanoparticles via amide bond formation. In strategy III, the thiol-SCMPs surface was coated with gold nanoparticles. Among the above examined strategies, coating amine-SCMPs with gold nanoparticles via strategy I resulted in a better coverage and stronger intensity of absorption bands. Furthermore, results obtained through strategy I showed that decreasing the pH of the solution from 7 to 3 leads to a further red-shift of...

Abstract
Gold nanoparticles are widely used as high efficient photon-thermal energy converters in a broad range of applications. This paper presents a theoretical investigation on using the optothermal properties of gold nanoparticle arrays to generate nanoscale molten and rubbery regions on the surface of an amorphous polymeric film. Nanoparticles are assumed to be embedded in a transparent silica layer and illuminated with a 7.5 ns pulsed laser at 532 nm. Simulation results are presented for systems with single gold nanoparticles, dimers and chains. Both electromagnetic and thermal interaction between nanoparticles are found to be important factors in determining the result of surface processing....
Highly sensitive turn-on fluorescent detection of captopril based on energy transfer between fluorescein isothiocyanate and gold nanoparticles
, Article Journal of Luminescence ; Volume 134 , 2013 , Pages 874-879 ; 00222313 (ISSN) ; Bagheri, H ; Bohloul, A ; Taheri, N ; Robatjazi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
2013
Abstract
A novel approach for highly sensitive detection of captopril was developed based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), in which FITC acts as the donor and Au NPs as the acceptor. The fluorescence intensity of fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) was strictly quenched as a result of noncovalently adsorbed on Au NPs. Upon the addition of captopril, the fluorescence intensity of FITC turn-on due to the competition between captopril and FITC towards the surface of Au NPs. Under the optimum conditions, the fluorescence intensity of the released FITC displays a linear relationship in the range of 20 μg L-1 to...

Abstract
Gold nanorods (GNRs) can be used in various biomedical applications; however, very little is known about their in vivo tissue distribution by radiolabeling. Here, we have developed a rapid and simple method with high yield and without disturbing their optical properties for radiolabeling of gold rods with iodine-131 in order to track in vivo tissue uptake of GNRs after systemic administration by biodistribution analysis and γ-imaging. Following intravenous injection into rat, PEGylated GNRs have much longer blood circulation times. We have developed a rapid and simple method for radiolabeling of gold rods with iodine-131 in order to track in vivo tissue uptake of gold nanorods after systemic...

Abstract
To efficiently enhance the contrast obtaining from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), pharmaceutical grade colloidal dispersions of PEG coated iron-based nanoparticles were prepared and compared to conventional pure iron oxide contrast agent. In this study, we synthesized ∼14 nm iron nanoparticles via NaBH4 reduction of iron(III) chloride in an aqueous medium. The resulting nanoparticles were further oxidized by two different methods via (CH3)3NO oxygen transferring agent and exposure to oxygen flow. XRD and electron microscopy analyses confirmed the formation of a second layer on the surface of α-Fe core. As magnetic measurements and Mössbauer spectra of 4-months post prepared nanoparticles...

Abstract
The electrochemical reduction of tinidazole (TNZ) is studied on gold-nanoparticle/carbon-nanotubes (AuNP/CNT) modified glassy carbon electrodes using the linear sweep voltammetry. An electrochemical procedure was used for the deposition of gold nanoparticles onto the carbon nanotube film pre-cast on a glassy carbon electrode surface. The resulting nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The effect of the electrodeposition conditions, e.g., salt concentration and deposition time on the response of the electrode was studied. Also, the effect of experimental parameters, e.g., potential and time of accumulation, pH of the buffered solutions and...

Abstract
The single stranded DNA can be adsorbed on the negatively charged surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), but the rigid structure of double stranded DNA prevents it from adsorption. Signal of a tagged single stranded DNA will be quenched by the plasmon effect of the AuNP surface after its adsorption. This phenomenon has been used to study the DNA hybridization and interactions of two complementary 21mer oligonucleotides each tagged with a different fluorescent dye in the presence of 13 nm gold nanoparticles. The DNA strands used in this study belong to the genome of HIV. The obtained rank deficient three-way fluorescence data sets were resolved by both PARAFAC and restricted Tucker3 models....
Mesoporous submicrometer TiO 2 hollow spheres as scatterers in dye-sensitized solar cells
, Article ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces ; Volume 4, Issue 6 , 2012 , Pages 2964-2968 ; 19448244 (ISSN) ; Tajabadi, F ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
2012
Abstract
Hierarchical submicrometer TiO 2 hollow spheres with outer diameter of 300-700 nm and shell thickness of 200 nm are synthesized by liquid phase deposition of TiO 2 over carbon microspheres as sacrificial templates. The final TiO 2 hollow spheres are applied as a scattering layer on top of a transparent nanocrystalline TiO 2 film, serving as the photoanode of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC). In addition to efficient light scattering, the mesoporous structure of TiO 2 hollow spheres provides a high surface area, 74 m 2/g, which allows for higher dye loading. This dual functioning suggests that TiO 2 hollow spheres may be good replacements for conventional TiO 2 spheres as scatterers in DSCs....
Spectrophotometric determination of glutathione and cysteine based on aggregation of colloidal gold nanoparticles
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 3 , June , 2012 , Pages 958-963 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Seyedhosseini, E ; Robatjazi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
We report herein the development of a highly sensitive colorimetric method for the determination of cysteine and glutathione, based on aggregation of the citrate capped gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). This was exploited from high affinity of low-molecular-weight aminothiols towards the Au NPs surface, which could induce displacement of the citrate shell by the thiolate shell of target molecules, resulting in aggregation of the NPs through intermolecular electrostatic interaction or hydrogen-bonding. As a result of aggregation, which can be affected by the ionic strength, pH and concentration of Au NPs, the plasmon band at around 521 nm decreases gradually, along with formation of a new red...

Abstract
CeO 2-TiO 2 nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel process using 2-hydroxylethylammonium formate as room-temperature ionic liquid and calcined at different temperatures (500-700°C). CeO 2-TiO 2-graphene nanocomposites were prepared by hydrothermal reaction of graphene oxide with CeO 2-TiO 2 nanoparticles in aqueous solution of ethanol. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, BET surface area, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transformed infrared techniques. The results demonstrate that the room-temperature ionic liquid inhibits the anatase-rutile phase transformation. This effect was promoted by addition of CeO 2 to TiO 2....

Abstract
A multicomponent analysis method based on principal component analysis-artificial neural network model (PC-ANN) is proposed for the simultaneous determination of levodopa (LD) and benserazide hydrochloride (BH). The method is based on the reaction of levodopa and benserazide hydrochloride with silver nitrate as an oxidizing agent in the presence of PVP and formation of silver nanoparticles. The reaction monitored at analytical wavelength 440 nm related to surface plasmon resonance band of silver nanoparticles. Differences in the kinetic behavior of the levodopa and benserazide hydrochloride were exploited by using principal component analysis, an artificial neural network (PC-ANN) to resolve...
Effects of particle size, shape and crystal structure on the formation energy of Schottky vacancies in free-standing metal nanoparticles: A model study
, Article Physica B: Condensed Matter ; Volume 406, Issue 20 , October , 2011 , Pages 3777-3780 ; 09214526 (ISSN) ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A simplified model based on cohesive energy is proposed to estimate the formation energy of Schottky vacancies (VFE) in free-standing metal nanoparticles with BCC and FCC crystal structures. To study the effect of particle size and shape, the surface energy, elastic contraction and average coordination number of particles at the surface and core was considered. It is shown that the energy of vacancy formation in FCC nanoparticles increases with decreasing the size while the effect of particle shape (sphere, cubic and icosahedral) is marginal. In spite of this behavior, BCC nanoparticles exhibit a critical particle size at around 25 Å, at which a minimum VFE is attained. Additionally, the...

Abstract
An analytical model is proposed to study the effect of particle size on melting enthalpy and entropy of metallic nanoparticles (NPs). The Mott's and Regel's equations for melting entropy in the combination of core average coordination number (CAC) and surface average coordination number (SAC) of freestanding NPs are considered. Clusters of icosahedral (IC), body centered cubic (BCC), and body centered tetragonal (BCT) structure without any vacancies and defects are modeled. Using the variable coordination number made this model to be in good agreement with experimental and molecular dynamic (MD) results of different crystal structures. The model predicts melting entropy and enthalpy of...
