    Abstract
High-performance wearable electronic devices with the capability of converting mechanical force into electrical energy have been gaining increasing attention for biomedical monitoring applications. We present a novel wearable piezoelectric sensor based on a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanofibrous membrane containing microporous zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for arterial pulse monitoring. It is shown that the incorporation of 5 wt % of MOF greatly enhances the piezoelectric constant of the polymer fibrous mat by 3.4-fold without significant loss in its flexibility. The nanofibrous composite exhibits a peak-to-peak voltage of 600 mV under an applied force of 5 N, which...

    Abstract
Designing a novel epoxy composite system with dual self-healing/barrier anti-corrosion functions using graphene oxide (GO) nano-platforms decorated by polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles doped with zinc metal ions is the major objective of this research attempt. GO-PPy-Zn nanoplatform was fabricated via one-pot polymerization of pyrrole monomers on GO and two direct/indirect methods of zinc doping. In order to verify the PPy nanoparticles synthesis on GO sheets several analyses such as UV–visible, XPS, HR-TEM and FE-SEM were performed. The epoxy nanocomposite coatings containing GO-PPy and GO-PPy-Zn nanoplatforms were fabricated and applied on carbon steel. The nanocomposite coatings...

Compaction simulation of crystalline nano-powders under cold compaction process with molecular dynamics analysis

    , Article Powder Technology ; Volume 373 , August , 2020 , Pages 741-753 Khoei, A. R ; Sameti, A. R ; Mofatteh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B. V  2020
    Abstract
In this paper, the uniaxial cold compaction process of metal nano-powders is numerically analyzed through the Molecular Dynamics (MD) method. The nano-powders consist of nickel and aluminum nano-particles in the pure and mixed forms with distinctive contributions. The numerical simulation is performed using the different number of nano-particles, mixing ratios of Ni and Al nano-particles, compaction velocities, and ambient temperatures in the canonical ensemble until the full-dense condition is achieved. In the MD analysis, the inter-atomic interaction between metal nano-particles is modeled by the many-body EAM potential, and the interaction between frictionless rigid die-walls and metal...

    Abstract
We report a novel strategy for the synthesis of magnetic nanocomposite for highly efficient catalysis. Poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) chains were grafted to the surface of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) through surface-initiated reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Then, the oxirane rings in the PGMA chains were opened with 2,6-diamino pyridine (DAP) molecules as ligands to prepare the solid support. Finally, this magnetic nanocomposite was used for the immobilization of gold nanoparticles. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, gel permeation...

    Abstract
Urea is a major source of nitrogen pollution in domestic sewage and its denitrification is difficult since it is very likely to be converted into ammonia or nitrate instead of expected N2. Herein, we propose an exhaustive denitrification method for urea via the oxidation of amine/ammonia-N with chlorine oxide radical, which induced from a bi-functional RuO2//WO3 anode, and the highly selective reduction of nitrate-N on cathode in photoelectrochemical cell (PEC). Under illumination, the WO3 photoanode side promotes the quantities hydroxyl and reactive chlorine radical, and these radicals are immediately combined to stronger chlorine oxide radical by RuO2 side, which obviously enhances the...

Selective colorimetric detection of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) using arginine-mediated aggregation of gold nanoparticles

    , Article Spectrochimica Acta - Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy ; Volume 228 , 2020 Taefi, Z ; Ghasemi, F ; Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
Detection of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) as an explosive has been of great interest because of public safety and military concerns. Here, we have presented a simple, selective and sensitive colorimetric method for direct detection of PETN. The gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were first exposed to arginine which has primary amines in its structure. Electron deficient –NH2 groups from arginine could strongly interact with –NO2 groups of PETN as electron donors. Hydrogen bonding happens between the –NO2 group of PETN and –NH2 group of arginine molecules. Therefore, selective aggregation of AuNPs happened because of the donor-acceptor and hydrogen bonding interactions. Due to the aggregation,...

    Abstract
Concentration procedures have always been implemented when trace analysis of compounds in real matrices is contemplated. A variety of concentration strategies have been reported aiming at decreasing the limits of detection (LODs). The optical concentration of the substance in solution is one of the novel concepts for the enhancement of the analytical sensitivity. In this study, the optical concentration has been measured by the trapping of gold nanoparticles ((Formula presented.) nm) dispersed in water at low-concentrations at the focal volume of the laser beam. The influence of factors such as the time of gold nanoparticle trapping, the size of the nanoparticles, the intensity of the laser...

    Abstract
In this paper, ultra-small CuO nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized through a mechanochemical method using two different Cu-containing precursors (i.e. CuSO4·5H2O and CuCl2·2H2O), and their structure and antibacterial activity were studied. From the microstructural studies, it was observed that CuO NPs have a spherical morphology and a narrow size distribution with 7 and 14 nm median particle sizes for CuCl2·2H2O and CuSO4.5H2O precursors, respectively. The CuCl2·2H2O derived nanoparticles showed more antibacterial activity than CuSO4.5H2O derived nanoparticles. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the synthesized nanoparticles (derived from both precursors) against E. coli and...

A mixture containing Cr2O3-NPC and [PtCl(SnCl3)(SMe2)2] is then prepared, and underflow of Argon is heated to 380 °C. Finally, Pt-SnO2 nanoparticles are loaded on the Cr2O3-NPC support, and the obtained...

    Abstract
Development of simple and rapid methods for identification of pesticides, due to their broad usage and harmful effects on mammals, has been known as a critical demand. Herein, we have introduced a silver nanoparticle (AgNP)based colorimetric sensor array for simultaneous identification of Azinphosmethyl (AM)and Phosalone (PS)pesticides. In the presence of the target pesticides, unmodified AgNPs at various pHs (4.5, 5.5 and 9.5)showed different aggregation behaviors. As a result of aggregation, the color and UV–Vis spectra of AgNPs changed differentially, leading to distinct response patterns for AM and PS. The aggregation induced spectral changes of AgNPs, were used to identify AM and PS...

SSD and AgNPs indicated a strong and equal antimicrobial activity against S. aureus. However, SSD had more toxicity against fibroblast cells over one week in vitro culture. An in vivo model of wound healing on male Wistar rats was developed with a full thickness wound. All the wound dressings indicated enough flexibility and...
