An analytical method to consider DG impacts on distribution system reliability

    , Article 2005 IEEE/PES Transmission and DistributionConference and Exhibition - Asia and Pacific, Dalian, 15 August 2005 through 18 August 2005 ; Volume 2005 , 2005 , Pages 1-6 ; 0780391144 (ISBN); 9780780391147 (ISBN) Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Rajabi Ghahnavie, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Distributed generation is expected to play an increasing role in emerging power systems. They use different type of resources and technologies to serve energy to power system. DG has positive and negative effects for both the utilities and customers. System and load point reliability indices are normally improved if DG is installed in a distribution network. On the other hand, DG has some specific characteristics which distinguish it from conventional generating units. Therefore, they should not be treated as conventional generating units to perform reliability evaluation. An appropriate model is required to be developed in order to assess impacts of DG on reliability indices. Impacts of DG...

A user-friendly transactive coordination model for residential prosumers considering voltage unbalance in distribution networks

    Abstract
Designing transactive energy (TE) markets in distribution systems has been a hot topic due to the increased presence of residential prosumers. In the literature, several residential market platforms have been proposed; however, they usually have two main drawbacks: 1) ignoring the effect of single-phase distributed energy resources on the voltage unbalance (VU) in active distribution networks to develop a transactive coordination model that will effectively mitigate the VU and 2) inability in providing a user-friendly strategy for home occupants to adjust the willingness to pay/accept of responsive assets according to their comfort and economic purposes. This article amends the shortcomings...

    Abstract
The fault-tolerant capability is a prerequisite for electrical safety-critical applications. In this regard, multi-phase induction motors are well-known actuators used to provide this feature. Compared to conventional three-phase machines with distributed windings, induction machines having concentrated windings could be more fault-tolerant because of increasing the number of phases. In addition, concentrated windings have shorter end-winding and less required copper weight which makes it a lower cost solution compared to distributed windings. However, concentrated windings adversely increase the distortion of the air gap flux density which affects motor performances. In this paper, a...

FDTD analysis of distributed amplifiers based on the fully distributed model

    Abstract
In this paper a wave approach has been introduced to study the performance of a distributed amplifier. The time domain response of a FET is obtained by means of the fully distributed model. By applying the procedure to a pi-gate GaAs MESFET, the S matrix is computed from time domain results over a frequency range of 2-20 GHz. Scattering parameters of gate and drain lines are extracted from three-dimensional FDTD simulation. The result obtained by this wave approach is compared with device lumped model and Quasi static approach of transmission line. © 2007 IEEE

A novel distributed model of the heart under normal and congestive heart failure conditions

, Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine ; Volume 227, Issue 4 , 2013 , Pages 362-372 ; 09544119 (ISSN) Ravanshadi, S ; Jahed, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Conventional models of cardiovascular system frequently lack required detail and focus primarily on the overall relationship between pressure, flow and volume. This study proposes a localized and regional model of the cardiovascular system. It utilizes noninvasive blood flow and pressure seed data and temporal cardiac muscle regional activity to predict the operation of the heart under normal and congestive heart failure conditions. The analysis considers specific regions of the heart, namely, base, mid and apex of left ventricle. The proposed method of parameter estimation for hydraulic electric analogy model is recursive least squares algorithm. Based on simulation results and comparison...
