    Abstract
Detection of blood diseases is one of the hardest branches of medical science. The human circulatory system mainly consists of three main components namely white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. Many diseases are diagnosed based on qualitative and quantitative evaluation of these cells, such as cell’s quantity, size, shape and the color of the cells. For example, AIDS and blood cancer cause major changes in components of immune system i.e. white blood cells. Also, some features of red blood cells change in various diseases such as iron deficiency, anemia, thalassemia and other diseases like malaria. Rapid diagnosis and treatment of these diseases has a considerable impact on the...

Smart wellsareunconventional wells with down-hole devices installed on their production tubing. Such wells allow us to continuouslymonitor flow rates, pressures, temperature and periodically adjust down-holevalves setting without any production intervention. This makes smart well technology to be considered as one of the most significantbreakthroughs in reservoir management technologies. So, modeling and simulating smart wellsautomated action represents a challenge in forecastingtheir performances. One of the easiest ways to model such wells is to transform theminto a multi-segment well with the ability tocontrol each segment independently. By using the commercial reservoir simulator,...

Development of a Reduced-Order Model for Control of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirabi, Emad (Author) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, a reduced model of a distributed one-dimensional Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) system is presented. Consequently the reduced model is used to estimate the states of the exact model. The reduced model is derived using the exact solution of the distributed model and implementing the Karhunen-Loève-Galerkin procedure. To achieve an exact solution of the distributed model, method of lines is used. In the method of lines, accuracy of the solution depends on the number of grid points. To increase the accuracy, the number of grid points should be increased which will lead to a high order dynamic model. Such a model is not suitable for state estimation, optimization or control...

Continuous Unitary Transformation and Quantum Phase Transition in Kondo-necklace Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi Movassagh, Mahsa (Author) ; Langari, Abdollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Strongly correlated electron systems are an interesting topic among condensed matter systems. The electrons in such systems are strongly correlated to each other in a way that the behavior of the systems cannot be described by single particle theories. One of the most famous of these systems are heavy fermionic materials which are called so due to heavy quasi particles mass.
This kind of materials have been investigated via different methods. The most im-portant model that can describe characteristics of these materials is Kondo lattice model. When we are only interested in magnetic properties of them, the model can be reduced to Kondo-necklace model which only involves with spin degrees...

    Abstract
Patellofemoral joint has an important role in knee extension. Because of this joint importance and complicated mechanical behavior, a lot of mathematical models have been used, to obtain a better understand of this joint, considering this joint as a part of knee joint or as a separate joint. Although these works have comprehensively studied the patellofemoral joint but they don’t emphasis on dynamic aspects. Also there is no work to compare the experimental and theoretical results calculated from one specified subject knee.In this study, the kinematic and dynamic of patellofemoral joint has been studied, constructing a three dimensional dynamic model of patellofemoral joint and experimental...

Scattering from Objects in Presence of Rough Surfaces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Masoumi, Amir Reza (Author) ; Shishegar, Amir Ahmad (Supervisor) ; Rejaei, Behzad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Electromagnetic wave scattering from objects is one of the most important problems in applied electromagnetics. Usually the electromagnetic scattering characteristic from an object is analyzed with the assumption that the object is in free space. If the object is not near other objects or surfaces this is acceptable. However if the object is near other objects or surfaces then the interactions between the scattered wave from the object and surroundings can significantly alter the scattering characteristic from the object. In this thesis we have proposed a method for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering from an object in the presence of rough surfaces. This method is based on the...

Dynamic Analysis of Rotors with Imbalance, Bent and Misalignment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Meisami, Farhad (Author) ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Mehdigholi, Hamid (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis a comprehensive software code has been developed for analyzing dynamic behavior of rotary systems. Dynamic analysis of rotors consists of calculating critical speeds, mode shapes and vibrational response. The code is also capable to model unbalance, bend and misalignment faults. Due to the complexity of current misalignment models, a simplified model was developed. Rotor, disks and bearings were modeled and joined together to build the complete model. A novel procedure was suggested for modeling of multisectional rotors (such as, Tie-rod and Tie-bolts). Vibrational response has been calculated for each of the faults and effect of shaft and bearing parameters has been observed....

Model Checking of Reo Specifications Using Automata Theorem

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshishzadeh, Sarmen (Author) ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis represents the theoritical concepts used for the implementation of a model checking framework for Reo specifications. This framework is implemented as a model checking tool which is applied to some case studies. First we have studied the wide variety of sementic models represented for Reo. We claim that the semantic model based on Büchi automata of records is a suitable candidate to serve as the underlying model of a model checking tool. Reo language represents some special features like synchronization, fairness and context dependency. Reo semantic models are analyzed with respect to their expressivness of the mentioned features. Moreover, the way that Büchi automata of records...
