    Simulation of Water Inside Carbon Nanotubes

    This thesis presents a research on the physical behavior of water inside carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Molecular simulations are carried out using the Monte Carlo method in the canonical and grand canonical ensembles. Due to the difference between the inter-molecular forces in the axial and radial directions, the anisotropic pressure tensor is calculated for water confined inside the CNTs with the diameters of 0.88, 1.08, 1.28, and 1.48 nm at different densities using the Monte Carlo simulations.     A comparator comprises a cross coupled circuit which produces a positive feedback. In conventional comparators, the mismatch between the cross coupled circuits determines the trade-off between the speed, offset and the power consumption of the comparator. A new low-offset low-power dynamic comparator for analog-to-digital converters is introduced. The comparator benefits from two stages and two operational phases to reduce the offset voltage caused by the mismatch effect inside the positive feedback circuit.     In this paper, we consider the problem of optimum rate adaptation and power allocation to maximize the delay-limited throughput (DLT) in a time-correlated 2×1 MISO Rayleigh fading channel with Hybrid ARQ in Chase-Combining mode (HARQ-CC). To this aim, we have first formulated the DLT equation based on the outage probability for 2×1 MISO-HARQ channel. We show that exact analytical calculation of the outage probability is not tractable.     In this paper, a special probe is designed using an array of photodiodes and a 960 nm LED for recording the wrist photoplethysmogram (PPG). The design is based on Monte-Carlo simulation of light propagation in tissues. Two series of experiments were carried-out: normal breathing and deep breathing. In both experiments, finger and wrist PPG were simultaneously recorded from the index finger.     A new method for modelling and analysis of non-linearity errors caused by the capacitor mismatches and op-amp non-idealities in two-step analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs) is presented. Analytical formulas for estimation of the ADC integral non-linearity (INL) are derived. Using the proposed method, the ADC INL can be calculated in terms of the capacitor mismatches standard deviations.     In this paper, the Monte Carlo technique is used to determine the optical detection strategies in three-layered (maternal, amniotic fluid and fetal) tissue model. This model is utilized to estimate the transabdominal optical power and optimum source-detector (S-D) separation.
