Probabilistic Modeling of Water Distribution Infrastructure and Its Inter- Dependencies in Community Resilience Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khayambashi, Kamiar (Author) ; Mahsuli, Mojtaba (Supervisor) ; Safaie, Ammar (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research develops a probabilistic framework for evaluating community resilience subject to earthquake events by modeling the water distribution system and its prevailing inter- and intra-dependencies with other infrastructure systems of the community. This framework is entitled “Rtx,” which is under continuous development at the Center for Infrastructure Sustainability and Resilience Research (INSURER) at Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. It quantifies the community resilience by integrating hazard models, risk models, and recovery models within an agent-based simulation. Comprehensive modeling of the water distribution system requires a library of probabilistic models,...

Sustainable-Resilient Supplier Selection Through Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Making Approaches

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Varchandi, Sahar (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Resa (Supervisor) ; Memari, Ashkan (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, with the expansion of business relations at international levels, there are many organizations that operate in global supply chains. Activities at such levels face new types of challenges in various fields of "supply chain management" pillars, of which "supplier selection" is one of them. The possibility of unexpected events, the need to comply with environmental protection laws, as well as the need to take into account social considerations, are among the things that have increased by being in larger supply chains, making it challenging to provide the basic resources needed in such chains and forcing their managers to considering considerations other than what they have always...

Resilience-oriented distribution network optimal planning to improve the continuity of power supply

    Abstract
A widely dispersed asset, electric grid has enormous impacts on people’s lives. Recently occurred various high-impact low-probability (HILP) threats have raised the concerns about the classical reliability-oriented view. Therefore, withstanding unexpected and less frequent severe situations still remain a significant challenge. As a critical infrastructure (CI), power systems are more and more expected to be resilient to HILPs. So, utilities put their endeavours to harden enough their networks against HILPs. In this regard, there is a great need to a methodology able to optimise the hardening programme investments. This scheme could potentially save a large amount of money, as well as...
