    Optimal strategies for price, warranty length, and production rate of a new product with learning production cost

    Abstract
    This study investigates optimal strategies for price, warranty length, and production rate of a new product in which both static markets for non-durable and dynamic markets for durable products are involved. The mathematical model incorporates both the demand and the cost functions including production, warranty length, and inventory costs. Using the maximum principle approach, the optimal strategies and interactions among price, warranty length, and production rate in both markets are analyzed using some propositions. The analysis shows that to maximize profits in all cases, the price, the warranty length, and the production rate all must go up simultaneously, or one of them must increase...

    Abstract
    The drift spectrum, as a new measure of earthquake-induced demands in structures, was developed using a uniform-stiffness continuous beam model. Practical limitations in the procedures based on such models have caused structural engineers to pay little attention to drift spectra. In this paper, a method is proposed to estimate the seismic-induced inter-story drift demands, using the modal analysis technique of lumped mass, non-uniform beam models. The proposed approach is simple and can overcome many deficiencies of the previous methods.     Abstract
    Asphaltic concrete has been used as waterproofing core in embankment dams, since 1948. In this application, the asphaltic core is surrounded by granular filter materials. The interaction of the asphaltic concrete and the granular materials has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper the mechanical behavior of the interface between a natural smooth sand filter and asphaltic concrete at different levels of normal stresses and a constant shear strain rate has been studied. Small scale direct shear test has been conducted in this study, in which the shear surface is considered as the interface.     Abstract
    The major source of energy is fossil fuels, known as hydrocarbon containing C and H as the main elements. The heat generated from combustion of these fuels is used in power generation cycles to generate electricity.     Abstract
    This paper presents a novel model for designing a reliable network of facilities in closed-loop supply chain under uncertainty. For this purpose, a bi-objective mathematical programming formulation is developed which minimizes the total costs and the expected transportation costs after failures of facilities of a logistics network. To solve the model, a new hybrid solution methodology is introduced by combining robust optimization approach, queuing theory and fuzzy multi-objective programming. Computational experiments are provided for a number of test problems using a realistic network instance

    Finding special periodic orbit in the highly chaotic problems is very complicated. Thus, deriving an effective algorithm for finding such orbits is important. In this paper, the spatial orbits in three-body problems are studied. Then, an algorithm is derived in order to help to find these orbits.     In this paper, we consider the restricted version of the well-known 2D line simplification problem under area measures and for restricted version. We first propose a unified definition for both of sum-area and difference-area measures that can be used on a general path of n vertices. The optimal simplification runs in O(n 3) under both of these measures.     The solubility of acetaminophen in SuperCritical-Carbon Dioxide (SC- CO 2) with and without menthol as a cosolvent was measured at various temperatures (313, 328 and 343) K, and within pressures ranging from (10 to 25) MPa. It should be stated that the cosolvent, menthol, has chiral isomers with different melting points.     In this paper, an analytical solution for the nonlinear free vibration of a conservative oscillator is presented. The nonlinear governing equation is solved by employing the Variational Iteration Method (VIM). This method is based on the use of Lagrange multipliers for identification of optimal values of parameters in a function.     In this study, the flow of a fiber filled viscoelastic matrix through planar contractions is investigated. It was found that by adding fiber to the matrix vortex, the intensity increases. Fiber orientation along "x" and "y" axes was studied too. It was found that fiber orientation could be used for determining the flow regime through the contraction geometry. The rigidity condition of fibers, which needs the trace of the orientation tensor to be unity everywhere in the domain, is correct except near walls and the reentrant corner, which is slightly less than one.     This paper addresses the multiple allocation hub set-covering problem considering backup coverage and mandatory dispersion of hubs. In the context of this paper, it has been assumed that a flow is covered if there are at least Q possible routes to satisfy its demand within a time bound. Moreover, there is a lower limit for the distance between hubs in order to provide a degree of dispersion in the solution. Mathematical formulation of this problem is given, which has O( n2) variables and constraints.     In this paper, the nonlinear oscillation of a pendulum wrapping and unwrapping on two cylindrical bases is studied, and an analytical solution is obtained using the multiple scales method. The equation of motion is derived based on an energy conservation technique. By applying the perturbation method to the differential equation, the nonlinear natural frequency of the system is calculated, along with its time response.
