Optimum Design Hybrid Energy Storage Systems in Electric Urban Rail Transport Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Komijani, Abbas (Author) ; Zolghadri, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the urban railway transportation system, large amount of power is consumed for starting the movement and acceleration. A great part of this energy is transformed to the train kinetic energy which in the case of break is reduced to zero. Thus recovering of train kinetic energy during the brake can help to reduce train energy consumption. One of the possible ways is using energy storage during the brake and using it again during acceleration. Storage can be performed in three kinds, fixed, mobile and hybrid. In this thesis, super capacitors have been investigated as fixed and mobile storages. After reviewing electrical railway transportation systems, elements of these systems have been...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kafaei Kashefi Moghaddam, Peyman (Author) ; Eshghi, Koorosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Graph Labeling is one of the most active initiatives in graph theory which was introduced in the early 1960’s. One of the most prominent kind of labeling in literature is magic-type labeling inspired by defining magic numbers and magic squares. It also encompasses various types. Total edge magic labeling of Graph G, is a bijection f from V(G)∪E(G) on the set of {1,2,…,|V(G) |+|E(G) |}, on this condition that the summation of each edge label and its vertices’ labels is constant for all edges. Since introducing total edge magic labeling, numerous researches is done that mostly are dedicated to prove mathematical theorems and depicting a whether a distinct graph is magic or not. Therefore, it...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshavarz Motamed, Pouyan (Author) ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study presents the best layout with optimal number of sensors for an arbitrary monitoring area based on reference free damage detection and localization. In recent years, damage detection approaches with the concept of instantaneous baseline measurements in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) with lamb wave propagation are being developed. An array of spars transducers is obligatory in SHM with lamb wave propagation, so that designing the best one is a concern for many researchers. To obtain the best sensors layout, damage localization process should be done for all definable sensors layouts in many different crack positions. Obviously, doing this seems not practical as wave propagation...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology keshavarz hadad , Shahriyar (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor) ; Khalo, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, a shape optimization technique is presented for powder forming processes based on the genetic algorithm approach. The numerical modeling of powder compaction simulation is applied based on a large deformation formulation, powder plasticity behavior, and frictional contact algorithm. A Lagrangian finite element formulation is employed for large powder deformations. A cap plasticity model is used in numerical simulation of nonlinear powder behavior. The influence of powder-tool friction is simulated by the use of penalty approach in which a plasticity theory of friction is incorporated to model sliding resistance at the powder-tool interface. For hot compaction process coupled...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshavarz, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Data traffic in communication network has increased steadily in recent years. Service requirements have also changed to become more complex. Moreover decrease in relative prices of computation and storage against communication encourages using more caching in these networks . Meanwhile increased use of encryption in internet has forced service providers who were willing to enter content distribution market to cooperate with content providers. But the cooperation is discouraged by willingness of both parties to hide their internal information. There are solutions proposed for interaction and information exchange between ISPs and CPs which are based on game theory. However, these solutions...

Design and Implementation of Software-Managed Energy Optimization Techniques for a Multi-Core Embedded Processor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi Fatemi, Masoud (Author) ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, due to the need of high performance systems, embedded systems have been redirected to multicore architectures. As energy consumption is one of the most important issues in embedded systems, careful considerations must be taken during the design of embedded systems to achieve low energy consumption. In this thesis, we propose the use of hybrid scratchpad memories to achieve low energy consumption. The hybrid memory uses both SRAM and STT-RAM memory. While STT-RAM has very low static energy consumption it suffers from high latency and energy consumption during write activities. In order to tackle this problem, we have devised a genetic algorithm that exploits architecture information...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Mohsen (Author) ; Ghorbanian, Kaveh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Typical thermoacoustic systems deal with the conversion of heat energy to sound energy and vice versa. Recent advances in the field of thermoacoustics have altered the working mechanism of many conventional heating and cooling devices. These systems have three highlighted advantages: first, they have simple structure, no moving parts, low cost of manufacture, and high reliability; second, by using inert gases as working fluid, they are environmentally friendly; and finally, heat driven thermoacoustic devices can be driven by low quality energy sources such as waste heat and solar energy.
The main focus of the present thesis is on the application of the thermoacoustic technology in the...

Simulation of Carbonate Reservoir Acidizing Using Fractured Reservoir Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Ali (Author) ; Bazargan, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The process of injecting acid or acidizing, is one of the most common ways to stimulate oil and gas wells. The purpose of this process is to increase the productivity of the well by increasing the permeability of the reservoir rock around the well. This is especially important in carbonate reservoirs due to damage to the formation and low intrinsic permeability in some places. In order to minimize the effects of structural damage, conventional wormhole channels are created to pass through the injured area. One of the important factors in acid validation is achieving optimal injection rate, which means obtaining the highest permeability with the lowest amount of injected acid.Numerous...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Siamak (Author) ; Tahami, Farzad (Supervisor) ; Nasiri-Gheidarik, Zahra (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays high efficiency and power density are desired for designing a power electronic converter. Technology advances in power semiconductor devices, makes it possible to design converters for operation in higher frequencies to reduce size of the converters. As the frequency is increased, switching losses and temperature is also increased, so designing a converter for high frequency operation needs some tradeoffs. LLC resonant converter as a promising solution for battery chargers has ability to adjust its output voltage during Constant Current and Constant Voltage modes. However, its operation mode would change based on switching frequency change. Therefore, for efficiency-oriented...
