    Abstract
A multi-objective economic-statistical design is aimed in this article for simple linear profiles. In this design, the interval between two successive sampling intervals, the sample size and the number of adjustment points alongside, the parameters of the monitoring scheme are determined such that not only the implementation cost is minimized, but also the profile exhibits desired statistical performances. To this aim, three objective functions are considered in the multi-objective optimization model of the problem. The Lorenzen–Vance cost function is used to model the implementation cost as the first objective function to be minimized. The second objective function maximizes the in-control...

Low loaded MoS2/Carbon cloth as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 47, Issue 3 , 2022 , Pages 1579-1588 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Shaker, T ; Mehdipour, H ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Active edge sites of MoS2 nanosheets exhibit promising futures for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), comparable with remarkable performances of highly cost platinum. However, 3D structures of MoS2 suffer from a lack of high mobility and unexposed active sites which lower the electrocatalytic activity. In this study, we show that there is a balance between increasing the active sites on the one hand and managing the charge transfer to facilitate the reaction on the other hand, and achieving this balance increases the efficiency of the electrocatalyst tremendously. For this purpose, we directly attached exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets onto carbon cloth (CC) substrate as a 3D network of conductive...

    Abstract
The optimum design of reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls subjected to seismic loads is an extremely important challenge in structural and geotechnical engineering, especially in seismic zones. This study proposes an adaptive sperm swarm optimization algorithm (ASSO) for economic design of retaining structure under static and seismic loading. The proposed ASSO algorithm utilizes a time-varying velocity damping factor to provide a fine balance between the explorative and exploitative behavior of the original method. In addition, the new method considers a reasonable velocity limitation to avoid the divergence of the sperm movement. The proposed algorithm is benchmarked with a set...

    Abstract
Heat-bath algorithmic cooling (HBAC) techniques are techniques that are used to purify a target element in a quantum system. These methods compress and transfer entropy away from the target element into auxiliary elements of the system. The performance of algorithmic cooling has been investigated under ideal noiseless conditions. However, realistic implementations are imperfect, and for practical purposes, noise should be taken into account. Here we analyze HBAC techniques under realistic noise models. Surprisingly, we find that noise can, in some cases, enhance the performance and improve the cooling limit of HBAC techniques. We numerically simulate the noisy algorithmic cooling for the two...

    Abstract
The failure of mechanical components is a common phenomenon in satellites. This failure can happen in the satellite attitude control system, which causes that the control system of the satellite becomes underactuated. There have been many attempts to control the orientation of underactuated satellites. However, in most studies, the inertia matrix of the satellite is assumed to be diagonal with respect to the body coordinate system, and no limitations on the amount of torque applied by the reaction wheels have been considered. In this paper, at first, it is attempted to control the satellite using the motion planning method. The satellite control inputs are assumed to be cubic spline with...

    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Improving the discharge process of phase change materials (PCMs) is of great importance and can be effective for thermal energy storage (TES) systems. In this research, the direct-contact method for acetone droplet on molten paraffin is optimized to enhance the efficiency of the discharge process of PCMs and TES systems working with intermediate boiling fluid (IBF). In order to improve the storage rate and increase the freezing rate in the system, the NSGA-II algorithm is used. When the acetone droplet hits, owing to its low boiling point relative to the temperature of molten paraffin, the acetone evaporates, causing the creation of solidified paraffin area. The main goal of the current...

    Abstract
Multispeed resolvers are used in the applications that need higher accuracy. However, they suffer from losing absolute position information. To overcome this challenge and improve the reliability of detecting position, the use of multiturn resolvers is recommended. The conventional configuration of multiturn resolver is using two individual resolvers on one shaft and into a common frame. Using such configuration needs special care on setting the distance between two resolvers. In this article, a new structure based on a dual side configuration is proposed. The performance of the double-sided resolver is analyzed and optimized using an analytical model based on a magnetic equivalent circuit....
