Capacity Analysis and Interference Characterization for CDMA Cellular Wireless Communications Systems Based on Statistical Modelling of User Locations

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Bastani, Mohammad Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we consider the effect of random locations of users in the capacity analysis of SIR-based power control systems and comparison to the strength-based systems, for the first time. Unlike previous works we do not consider a simple deterministic uniform model for the analysis. We provide simulations and analytical solutions for calculating the interference statistics, based on which, we not only calculate the interference statistics, but also study the effect of locating a user in every location in the network coverage area and its share in the interference. We also calculate each cell’s share in every statistics of the interference. In this thesis, based on the common assumption...

Post Optimal Analysis application on the reliability evaluation of the Iran power grid

    , Article 2012 11th International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering, EEEIC 2012 - Conference Proceedings ; 2012 , p. 873-878 ; ISBN: 9781460000000 Safdarian, A ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Access to a computational tractable method for representing the system more realistically has always been an important issue in power system reliability assessment. The Post Optimal Analysis (POA), as a well recognized technique to attack a set of similar optimization problems, has been successfully used to assess the reliability of composite systems. This method exploits the similarity of the system states to speed up the contingency evaluation procedure without sacrificing the accuracy of the results. In this paper, the performance and practical feasibility of the POA technique for power system reliability evaluation is tested using the Iran power grid. The POA based approach is applicable...

Optimal reserve capacity allocation with consideration of customer reliability requirements

    , Article Energy ; Vol. 35, issue. 9 , 2010 , p. 3883-3890 ; ISSN: 03605442 Najafi, M ; Ehsan, M ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Akhavein, A ; Afshar, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An algorithm for determining optimal reserve capacity in a power market is presented in this paper. Optimization process in the proposed algorithm is based on the cost-benefit trade off. Market clearance is executed with consideration of uncertainties of power system components in an aggregated environment. It is assumed that both generating units and interruptible loads participate in the reserve market. In addition, customers' reliability requirements are considered as constraints for decision making process of ISO. The rendered method considers random outages of generating units and transmission lines and determined outage of interruptible loads and employs Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS)...

Pseudo DVL reconstruction by an evolutionary TS-fuzzy algorithm for ocean vehicles

    , Article Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation ; Volume 147 , 2019 ; 02632241 (ISSN) Ansari-Rad, S ; Hashemi, M ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2019
    Abstract
By development of ocean exploration, autonomous vehicles are employed to perform on-water and underwater tasks. Using an extended Kalman filter, Inertial Navigation System/Doppler Velocity Log (INS/DVL) integrated systems are trying to navigate in oceans and underwater environments when Global Positioning System (GPS) signals are not accessible. The dependency of DVL signals on acoustic environments may cause any DVL malfunction due to sea creatures or strong wave-absorbing material. In this paper, an improved version of evolutionary TS-fuzzy (eTS) is proposed in order to predict DVL sensor outputs at DVL malfunction moment, by utilizing an artificial intelligent (AI) aided integrated...

Optimal allocation of spinning reserve in a restructured power system using particle swarm optimization

    , Article IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, CCECE 2008, Niagara Falls, ON, 4 May 2008 through 7 May 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 535-540 ; 08407789 (ISSN) ; 9781424416431 (ISBN) Hajian Hoseinabadi, H ; Fotubi Firuzabad, M ; Hajian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
A reasonable amount of spinning reserve is essential to satisfy system security constraints when the power system encounters a contingency. Most ofthe methods previously developed for spinning reserve assessment ignore the probabilistic aspects of system components. This paper presents the design of a market for energy and spinning reserve services. This dispatching method has been developed to minimize the cost associated with theses services while maintaining the system security. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used for determining the global optimal solution for this dispatch problem. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is examined by application to the IEEE Reliability Test...
