Electrodeposition of Ag-Pd Alloy for Enhancing Corrosion Resistance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yari, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Silver is a resistant metal against the oxidation under normal atmospheric conditions, but it reacts readily with sulfur bearing species in the environment and corrodes. Alloying silver with more noble elements, such as Palladium, is a promising approach for increasing corrosion resistance against the sulfur pollutants. The purpose of this research is to develop a plating bath for deposition of Silver-Palladium alloy with acceptable appearance and higher corrosion resistance than pure silver. For this purpose, a bath based on thiosulfate complexing agent was investigated. In this solution, with a bath containing 10 mM of each cation, deposits with palladium content of 6, 11 and 14 % were...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Siavash Moakhar, Roozbeh (Author) ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hexavalent chromium ions (Cr(VI)) is one of the most dangerous heavy ions for the environment, humans and other living organisms. Hence, finding new ways to determine and reduction to the much less toxic trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) is highly important. In this thesis, electrochemical and photoelectrochemical methods have been employed for the direct detection and reduction of Cr (VI). For this purpose, the indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode decorated with gold-palladium bimetallic nanoparticles (AuPd) was used for the determination and reduction of Cr(VI) via electrochemical route. These AuPd decorated electrodes exhibited a wide linear concentration range of 0.001-100 µM, a very low...

    Abstract
One of the key factors in the assembly of nanoparticles and controlled construction of such systems is their positioning by a manipulation system. The response of clusters that are subjected to this process is of great importance. In this study, the behaviour of metallic nanoparticles during the manipulation process on an Au substrate is investigated using molecular dynamics. Two criteria are proposed for the evaluation of success in a pushing process regarding the intactness of a nanoparticle/substrate pair. The effects of cluster material, temperature and manipulation speed on the success of the process are investigated based on the simulation results

    Abstract
The present work describes the application of nano CoCuFe2O4 toward the coupling reaction of acyl chlorides with terminal alkynes. By this catalytic system, ynone derivatives were formed in high yields via a palladium-free strategy. This protocol avoids the use of phosphine ligands as well as toxic CO sources. Recovery of catalyst by employing an external magnetic field and its reuse up to 9 consecutive trials confirm the robustness of this catalytic system. © 2017 Elsevier B.V

    Abstract
Porous silicon samples were obtained by the electrochemical method and were impregnated with Pd by the electroless process. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy illustrated that the surface of the samples is oxidized during the palladium deposition. Scanning electron microscopy showed how factors such as morphology and pre-oxidations of porous samples and the plating parameters including Pd-salt concentration, HCl concentration, temperature of the electroless solution and the time of process affect the growth and nucleation of Pd particles. Observations demonstrated that the illumination-assisted process on p-type samples has a drastic effect on the growth of palladium. Hydrogen sensing of these...

Characterization of porous poly-silicon impregnated with Pd as a hydrogen sensor

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 38, Issue 1 , 2005 , Pages 36-40 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Rahimi, F ; Iraji Zad, A ; Razi, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Porous poly-silicon (PPS) samples, obtained by electrochemical anodization of p-type poly-silicon wafers, were doped with Pd by the electroless process. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy shows that Pd has diffused a few micrometres into the PPS layer. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis results demonstrate the presence of Pd as dispersed clusters on the surface. The variation of the electrical resistance in the presence of dry air diluted with hydrogen at room temperature shows that Pd/PPS samples have the ability to sense hydrogen at levels down to several thousands of ppm. This value is far below the flammability limit of hydrogen gas. It was found that...

    Abstract
Copper-palladium alloys of different compositions are electrodeposited on nickel from aqueous solutions. These alloys are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). The catalytic activity of these alloys toward oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline solution is investigated using rotating disk electrode (RDE). The number of electrons transferred per O2 molecule (n) obtained at different potentials is close to 2 at low overpotential indicating HO2- formation and gradually increases to 4 at higher overpotentials indicating full reduction to OH-. It is shown that Cu-Pd alloys are better electrocatalysts than Pd with Pd-Cu-1 having 24.5%...

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 35, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 854-860 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Fardindoost, S ; Iraji zad, A ; Rahimi, F ; Ghasempour, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The sol gel method was employed to prepare peroxopolytungstic acid (P-PTA). Palladium chloride salt was dissolved in the sol with different Pd:W molar ratios and coated on Al2O3 substrates by spin coating method. XRD and XPS techniques were used to analyze the crystal structure and chemical composition of the films before and after heat treatment at 500 °C. We observed that Pd can modify the growth kinetic of tungsten trioxide nanoparticles by reducing the crystallite size and as a result can improve hydrogen sensitivity. Resistance-sensing measurements indicated sensitivity of about 2.5 × 104 at room temperature in hydrogen concentration of 0.1% in air. Considering all sensing parameters,...

    Abstract
Supportless Ni-Pd-0.1CNT foamy nanocatalyst with specific surface area of 611.3 m2/g was produced by electroless deposition of nickel, palladium and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on interim polyurethane substrate. Application of temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and temperature programmed oxidation (TPO) data into Kissinger (Redhead) kinetic model showed lessening of their activation energies due to Pd and CNT addition. Presence of foamy Ni/SiC caused 8% higher steam reforming of methane; while Ni-Pd-0.1CNT presence resulted in 22% higher methane conversion. The catalytic behavior of the samples was described by morphological and compositional studies which were carried out by...
