Abstract
In this work, the combination of H2O2 and an active visible-light-driven photocatalyst (Ag-S/PEG/TiO2) was utilized under natural solar radiation for the degradation of 2-nitrophenol (2-NP), and interaction effects between the photocatalyst and hydrogen peroxide were analyzed. For this purpose, experiments were designed using the response surface methodology based on the central composite design. In this study, a three-factor, three-level Box-Behnken design with response surface methodology were used to maximize the TOC removal and minimize the H2O2 residual in the effluent of the combined UV-C/H2O2-VUV system for the treatment of an actual slaughterhouse wastewater (SWW) collected from one of the meat processing plants in Ontario, Canada. The reaction of Fe(acac)3 and 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)oxazoline (Hphox) as a bidentate O,N donor ligand afforded a six-coordinated iron(III) complex [Fe(phox)2(acac)] with distorted octahedral configuration. The complex was isolated as an air-stable crystalline solid and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, solution electrical conductivity, and by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. Nano-sized particles of manganese oxides have been prepared by a very simple and cheap process using a decomposing aqueous solution of manganese nitrate at 100 °C. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction spectrometry have been used to characterize the phase and the morphology of the manganese oxide. A molybdenum complex, [MoO2 Cl2 (DMSO)2 ], was immobilized on amino propyl and Schiff base modified magnetic Fe3 O4 @SiO2 nanoparticles by covalent linkage. Abstract
Background: cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women worldwide and its management remains challenging and complex. As Cytochrome4Z1 (CYP4Z1) is overex-pressed in many tumours, its expression in cervical cancer is unknown. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate CYP4Z1 expression in cervical cancers. Methods: CYP4Z1 expression was immunohistochemically assessed in 100 cases of cervical cancers along with ten normal cervix tissues, and the enzyme’s relationship to several clinicopathological features and survival was explored. Abstract
This paper reports on the recovery of zinc, cobalt and manganese by two-step leaching of zinc-plants purification residue with sulfuric acid. The residue, hot filter press cake (HFC), contains 14 % ZnO, 4.8 % Co 3O4 and 22.9 % MnO. Effects of different parameters are determined and used to optimize the process. With acid to hot filter press cake (HFC) stoichiometry of 0.85, acid concentration of 30 g/L and temperature of 25°C, it took two minutes to separate zinc from zinc plant residue. Abstract
The simultaneous oxidation performance of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) by nanoscale calcium peroxide particles (nCaO2) activated with ferric ions (Fe(III)) and the mechanism of the enhancement of BTEX degradation by L-cysteine (L-cys) were investigated. The batch experimental results showed that the nCaO2/Fe(III)/L-cys process was effective in the destruction of BTEX in both ultrapure water and actual groundwater. Abstract
Novel molybdenum complex, cis-[MoO2(phox)2] has been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, elemental analyses (CHN), and X-ray molecular structure determination methods. This complex was found to be an efficient, selective catalyst for the oxidation of various sulfides to sulfoxides with urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in excellent yields (100% for diallylsulfide) and short reaction times (20 min) at room temperature. Higher reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in cancer cells than normal cells have long been recognized, which makes cancer cells more susceptible to excess ROS. Thus oxidation (also called pro-oxidant) therapy has been explored as new cancer therapy regimens. To produce additional ROS, e.g. H2O2 in situ within tumor, we encapsulated glucose oxidase in chitosan-coated alginate-calcium microspheres (GOX-MS) for locoregional treatment and demonstrated its efficacy against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Platinum nanotubes (PtNTs) are fabricated by potentiostatic electrodeposition at various overpotentials (−200 up to −400 mV versus SCE) in polycarbonate templates (PCTs) with pore diameter of 200 nm in a solution containing 5 mM H2PtCl6 and 0.1 M H2SO4. A novel binuclear iron(III)-salicylaldazine complex has been synthesized and characterized by various techniques such as IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The catalytic oxidation of sulfides in the presence of the aforementioned complex was explored at room temperature using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as an oxidant.
