    , Article Analytical Methods ; Volume 8, Issue 20 , 2016 , Pages 4064-4068 ; 17599660 (ISSN) Hormozi Nezhad, M. R ; Taghipour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Royal Society of Chemistry  2016
    Abstract
A new, simple and rapid carbon dot (CD) based fluorescent probe for speciation of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions was developed. The as-prepared CDs contain phenol groups on their surfaces and due to the special coordination interaction of phenol groups with Fe3+ ions, this sensing system exhibits excellent sensitivity and selectivity toward Fe3+. In order to detect Fe2+ ions as well, a specific amount of H2O2 was introduced to the detection system to transform Fe2+ to Fe3+ of which the latter is the determinable form of iron. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the fluorescence intensity of the sensor decreased as the Fe3+ ion concentration increased. The relationship plot between the...

Photo-Fenton like degradation of catechol using persulfate activated by UV and ferrous ions: Influencing operational parameters and feasibility studies

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 249 , 2018 , Pages 463-469 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Delavaran Shiraz, A ; Takdastan, A ; Borghei, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
In the present study, photo-Fenton degradation of catechol from aqueous solution was carried out using UV light and iron ions (Fe2+) as activators of persulfate (PS). Catechol degradation from solution was studied under different experimental variables such as solution pH (2.0–10.0), iron dosages (0.1–0.5 g/L), persulfate loadings (1.0–5.0 mM), initial catechol concentrations (20–100 mg/L) and scavengers (TBA and IPA). The comparative study of catechol removal showed that among the applied approaches, the order of degradation of catechol is as follows: PS/Fe2 +/UV > PS/Fe2 + > UV/PS > PS > UV. Furthermore, higher catechol degradation was observed with increasing iron dosage and PS...

Simulation of Phenol Biodegradation by Pseudomonas Putida in a Continuous Stirred Biofilm Reactor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alinejad, Mahsa (Author) ; Yaghmaei, Soheila (Supervisor) ; Askaripour, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of microorganisms to remove or produce a substace is a fundamental part of biotechnology. An example is the bioreactors for phenol removal in wastewater. Biological processes are commonly done in batch reactors in which suspended cells grow in the liquid phase. The batch process needs alternate reactor washes and alternate cell cultivation, which leades to a longer time constant for for each batch. If these reactors operate in continuous conditions, the cells will leave the reactor in liquid flow, and high cell concentrations will be impossible. The biofilm layer makes a batch phase, so the liquid phase flows in and out continuously, but the cells in the biofilm layer stay in the...

    Abstract
Bromophenols are known as antioxidant radical scavengers for some biomolecules such as those in marine red alga. Full understanding of the role played by bromophenols requires detailed knowledge of the radical scavenging activities in probable pathways, a focus of ongoing research. To gain detailed insight into two suggested pathways, H-atom transfer and electron transfer, theoretical studies employing first principle quantum mechanical calculations have been carried out on selected bromophenols. Detailed investigation of the aforementioned routes revealed that upon H-atom abstraction or the electron transfer process, bromophenols cause an increase in radical species in which the unpaired...

    , Article Wear ; Volume 274-275 , January , 2012 , Pages 286-297 ; 00431648 (ISSN) Saffar, A ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Various composite friction materials containing 40. vol.% organic binder (phenolic resin plus styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR)) with varying phenolic-resin/SBR ratio were prepared. The content of phenolic resin in each composite was indicated by the resin value (RV) index ranging between 0 and 100%. The composites with RVs greater than 50% form resin-based friction materials in which the primary binder is the phenolic resin. For RVs less than 50%, the composites become the rubber-based materials where the primary binder is the SBR. The analysis of mechanical properties exhibited that the conformability of the composites increases upon incorporation of SBR. The frictional analysis revealed that...

    , Article Progress in Reaction Kinetics and Mechanism ; Volume 36, Issue 1 , February , 2011 , Pages 38-52 ; 14686783 (ISSN) Elahifard, M. R ; Rahimnejad, S ; Pourbaba, R ; Haghighi, S ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Multi-component photocatalysts based on apatite-coated Ag=AgBr=TiO 2 were prepared by the deposition method. The effects of various kinds of apatites, with hydroxyl and fluoro substituents, on photocatalytic activity were investigated. The antibacterial processes in the dark, and under visible light, on two types of bacteria indicate that the multi-composites can inhibit the growth of bacteria by two different mechanisms. TEM images and optical microscopic data demonstrate that by attaching the nanosize catalyst to the outer membrane of the cell, the bacteria could not derive nourishment from surrounding media, i.e. this component acts as bacteria-static. The mechanism for deactivation of...
