Ionization and Dissociation of the Chlorine Molecule by the Femtosecond Ti: Sapphire Laser Radiation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mostafaei, Anahita (Author) ; Sadighi-Bonabi, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ionization probability of Cl2 molecule is studied by irradiation of 800 nm Ti: Sapphire laser pulses at intensities of 1014 Wcm-2 to 1016 Wcm-2 with the Gaussian package. Molecular orbital symmetry and orientation of the molecule dipole moment with laser field polarization axis are very effective in ionization probability. The results show that the most ionization probability for the intensity of 1014 wcm-2 is at 900 and also 50 at intensity of 1016 wcm-2. Due to the lack of intrinsic dipole moment, variation of dipole moment with the intensity, bond length and time evolution of dipole moment are investigated. It is found that there is a linear dependance of these parameters with ionization...

UEP CodesBased Cooperative Network With Different User Priorities Approach and Their Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadkhani Razlighi, Mohsen (Author) ; Nasiri-kenari, Masoumeh (Supervisor) ; Behroozi, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, coded cooperation has been considered as one of the best methods to cope with fading and at the same time to achieve channel coding gain. There is a special case of cooperative networks that provide different level of user priority. Among all methods for creating user priority our motivation is to use of UEP codes for this propose. UEP codes are a special case of channel codes that provide different level of protection for message. It means that some part of message that has more protection it has less error. First we review all type of UEP codes and compare them in term of probability of bit error on the AWGN channel. And best code will be choosing for applying to this...

Comparision of Single Service Call Admission Control Schemes in Cellular Mobile Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Firouzi, Zahra (Author) ; Beigy, Hamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In single service wireless cellular networks, two types of call are defined; new call and handoff call. New call blocking probability and handoff call dropping probability are two major parameters of QoS. Some call admission control schemes are proposed for handling new and handoff calls in the cell for keeping these QoS parameters under suitable values. In this work, we will introduce some call admission control schemes and will show performance analysis, advantages and disadvantages of them (under different channel holding times and same channel holding times for new calls and handoff calls). Then we will focus on two schemes and based on their ideas, we will propose a new call admission...

    Geometrical Structure of Neuron Morphology

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Farhoodi, Roozbeh (Author) ; Fotouhi, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The tree structure of neuron morphologies has excited neuroscientists since their discovery in the 19-th century. Many theories assign computational meaning to morphologies, but it is still hard to generate realistic looking morphologies. There are a few growth models for generating neuron morphologies that correctly reproduce some features (e.g. branching angles) of morphologies, but they tend to fall short on other features. Here we present an approach that builds a generative model by extracting a set of human-chosen features from a database of neurons by using the naïve Bayes approach. Then by starting from a neuron with a soma we use statistical sampling techniques to generate...

Time-variant Reliability Analysis of Offshorre Structure Subject to Multiple Hazards

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faraji, Iman (Author) ; Golafshani, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Mahsuli, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purpose in this study is the determination of offshore structures reliability index over time by considering the simultaneous effects of natural hazards. Importance of this study stems from the effect of events associated with time which induces high amount of uncertainties on offshore structures performance during their life time. Extreme wave, marine current, earthquake, fatigue, corrosion and marine growth hazards are considered in this paper. The intensity and occurrence time of all hazards are time dependent parameter. In addition some of these hazards have the possibility to coincidence and the interaction effect. Whereas, the previous studies in this field, the effect of each...

Turbulence Equation-of-State Interaction Modeling in Large Eddy Simulation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghayour, Amir Mohammad (Author) ; Salehi, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most real combustion systems, flow is turbulent (e.g., diesel engines). Therefore, a reliable turbulence modeling approach is necessary to design and analyze a system with turbulent flow. Direct numerical simulation (DNS), Large eddy simulation (LES), and Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) are the three most mature Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods for turbulent flow simulations. Because of LES’s good accuracy and acceptable computational cost. In this project, LES is chosen to simulate the turbulent flow field.Modeled turbulence subgrid scales' interaction with nonlinear flow parameters, needs modeling. In supercritical and transcritical conditions, Equation-of-state is a...

Probabalistic Damage Detection of Ofshore Platforms

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghyabi, Mehrdad (Author) ; Golafshani, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
High construction and installation costs of offshore platforms, and also harsh environments in which they operate, make health monitoring of these structures more important. Conventional methods to solve the health monitoring problem are deterministic, whereas much uncertainties are imposed to the problem. In most methods of health monitoring methods we try to identify natural frequencies and mode shapes of structures by using its dynamic response. This set of data is then compared to results of modal analysis performed on a finite element model of structure in order to detect any possible damage. In deterministic methods each response of structure is pertained to one damage state, in a...

    Philosophical Theories of Probability

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghafoory Yazdi, Hassan (Author) ; Alishahi, Kasra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We can note to at least four very different interpretations of probability that have become popular in the twentieth century. These interpretations are as follows:1. Logical theory: According to this theory, the probability of each event will be equal to the degree of rational belief in that event. In addition, these rational beliefs are assumed to be equal for each individual in the same situation. This is the difference between logical theory and subjective theory.2. Subjective theory: as mentioned, in Subjective theory like Logical theory, probability of an event equals to degree of rational belief in that event, except that Subjective theory allows the differences between the beliefs...

Exploring the Efficiency of Machine Learning Algorithms in Estimating Time-Variant Travel Time Distributions in River Basins

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alizadeh Attar, Mehdi (Author) ; Danesh Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of machine learning algorithms in capturing the dynamics of water particles' age distribution and in estimating the time series of median travel time (MTT) in river basins. The mechanism of solute transport in a catchment does not follow the hydrograph shape of the catchment and depends on the spatial and temporal distribution of solute resident time. The equations governing the age dynamics of water particles discharged from a catchment have been presented analytically in recent research. These equations showed that the transfer of solutes depends on various factors, including climatic conditions, basin topography, and basin vegetation. Also,...

Stability Analysis of High Rise Structures Using the IDA Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aghili, Amir (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The increased height of high-rise structures has made the effects of reduced stability a crucial factor in structural analysis and design. There are a variety of methods for analyzing the stability of high-rise structures. This thesis discusses nonlinear finite element method for analyzing the stability of a three-dimensional 50-storey concrete structure with a height of 150 meter using increment dynamic analysis (IDA). The IDA was first proposed by Bertero.v and it has been adopted in a variety of manners by researchers. In recent years, this method has been confirmed by EEMA. Moreover, FEMA350, FEMA351 and FEMA P695 guidelines have paid special attention to this method for determining...

Modeling and Analysis of Stochastic Clustered Networks

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Azimi Abarghouyi, Mohammad (Author) ; Nasiri Kenari, Masoumeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless communication networks are undergoing a significant transformation from coverage-driven deployment of macrocells to user-centric and cluster-based capacity-driven deployments of low-power base stations (BSs), usually at the locations of high user density. On the other hand, the increasing irregularity and randomness in the locations of nodes has led to an increased interest in the use of random spatial models along with tools from stochastic geometry and point process theory for their accurate modeling and tractable analysis. To this end, this thesis investigates clustered networks for different wireless applications. In this regards, comprehensive and tractable analytic frameworks...

Modeling of Epistemic Uncertainties in Seismic Hazard Analysis Based on Reliability Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Askari, Mohammad (Author) ; Mahsouli, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The primary objective of this thesis is comprehensive treatment of epistemic uncertainties in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis based on structural reliability methods. The classical methods of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, i.e., PSHA, traditionally consider a limited number of uncertainties. The ones that they do consider comprise the aleatory uncertainty in the magnitude, the distance, and the residuals of ground motion prediction equations and the epistemic uncertainty in the intensity measures predicted by different such equations. However, there are many sources of epistemic uncertainty that, according to past studies, have a significant impact on the upper tail of the...

Process Capability Analysis of Additive Manufacturing Process through Predictive Model of Dimensional and Geometric Errors based on Machine Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdolahi, Alireza (Author) ; Khodaygan, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Additive manufacturing (AM)has gained extensive industrial and research attention in recent years. Reducing manufacturing waste, lead-time and costs and the ability to build surfaces and parts with complex shapes, assemblies all at once or parts with internal features are some benefits of AM. However, complex error generation mechanisms underlying AM digital physical chains are likely to result in geometrical inaccuracies of the final product, thus posing significant challenges to design and tolerancing for AM. Therefore, predictive modeling of shape deviations is critical for AM. With increasing volumes and varieties of data, machine learning has gained extraordinary popularity due to its...

Performance Analysis and Power Optimization of Cooperative Networks with Channel Estimation Errors

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Tabataba, Foroogh Sadat (Author) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Sadeghi, Parastoo (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Cooperative communications have been introduced to combat degrading effects of fading in wireless networks and attracted much attention recently. This technique provides distributed spatial diversity that enables energy-efficient transmission of information from source nodes to destination nodes via intermediate relay nodes. Most existing protocols, detection techniques and optimization methods in cooperative networks assume that perfect channel state information is available. While in practical situations, the estimates of the channels may only be known and for acquiring such knowledge, a fraction of power and bandwidth have to be spent for channel estimation using pilot symbols. In this...

Probabilistic Assessment of Flood Risk Using Data-Driven Flood Depth Modeling: A Case Study of Poldokhtar City

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ziya Shamami, Oveys (Author) ; Safaie Nematollahi, Ammar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The present study aims to evaluate the flood risk of Poldokhtar city probabilistically using Monte Carlo Simulations (MCS). Two-dimensional (2D) models, which are highly accurate, have been used widely for flood modeling. However, they are not suitable for applications such as MCSs that need to be repeated many times or real-time flood forecasting applications, which require that flood inundation maps quickly be produced. In the current study, we developed a data-driven surrogate model based on the Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM), a supervised machine learning method, to predict flood depth in order to simulate similar results to 2D hydraulic modeling. HEC-RAS was used for 2D...

Diversity and Error Probability Analysis and Determining the Effect of Non-Ideal Phase Estimation in Amplify-and-Forward and Beamforming Techniques

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Safavi, Ebrahim (Author) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study we investigate the performance of amplify-and-forward (AF) and beamforming schemes in wireless networks. In our study we consider a general cooperative network consisting one transmit-receive pair and an arbitrary number of relays in which each relay has a separate power constraint. A two-step master-slave protocol is deployed in which at the first stage, relays listen to the transmitter and at the second stage, relays forward the recently received signal coherently. Main contributions of this dissertation are providing the exact closed-form of bit error rate analysis in the case of general AF networks, providing an integral-form upper bound of error probability of network...

Queueing with Inventory Models for Analysing Make-to-Order Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Saffari, Mohammad (Author) ; Hajji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we consider various Make-to-Order systems as a version of integrated production-inventory systems. Most Make-to-order systems can be sufficiently modeled by a queueing system with inventory in which completing each service in the queueing system requires an on-hand inventory. Unlike most researches in this field, we present an analytical approach. In all systems we embed a stochastic process with joint state space that can entirely describe the state of system. Then steady state distributions are derived. Those distributions are applied to compute performance measures and long-run average cost function which can be used for optimization. In our Make-to-Order models, demands...

Study on Electromigration Phenomenon and Lifetime Estimation of Integrated Circuits

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salehi, Mohammad (Author) ; Medi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Estimating the life-time of electronic devices has always been an important issue in their mass production. Nowadays, electronic chips are widely used due to technological advances and due to their smaller size. They may be more likely to break down because of their complexity. Therefore, estimating their life-time has received much attention. In the first chapters of this thesis, the concepts and standards that exist in the field of reliability and the life expectancy of electronic devices are discussed. There are many reasons for chip failure, which are beyond the scope of this thesis but what is known as the most important cause of failure which is named electromigration has been...
