Crosstalk suppression and high-fidelity measurement in 2-D tunneling of coupled Josephson junctions

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity ; Volume 22, Issue 4 , 2012 ; 10518223 (ISSN) Sadeghi, A ; Zandi, H ; Khorasani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
We present a new configuration concept in which two similar Josephson junctions are coupled through a capacitor placed in parallel to a dc-superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) to improve the characteristics of phase qubits. In real coupled quantum systems, because of mutual effects such as crosstalk, entangled quantum states cannot be independently measured. The proposed two-qubit system is demonstrated to have a negligible crosstalk, obtained from the application of a single measurement pulse and an appropriate external flux to one of the junctions and the dc-SQUID, respectively. Surprisingly, the theoretically predicted fidelity for a single-qubit design increases to 99.99%...

    Abstract
The exact numerical solution of the nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau equation for Josephson junctions is obtained, from which the precise nontrivial current density and effective potential of the Josephson junctions are found. Based on the resulting potential well, the tunneling probabilities of the associated bound states are computed which are in complete agreement with the reported experimental data. The effects of junction and bias parameters such as thickness of the insulating barrier, cross sectional area, bias current, and magnetic field are fully investigated using a successive perturbation approach. We define and compute figures of merit for achieving optimal operation of phase qubits and...

A low complexity scheme for entanglement distributor buses

    , Article Quantum Information Processing ; Volume 10, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 519-532 ; 15700755 (ISSN) Ghojavand, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
For technological purposes and theoretical curiosity, it is very interesting to have a building block that produces a considerable amount of entanglement between on-demand sites through a simple control of a few sites. Here, we consider permanently- coupled spin networks and study entanglement generation between qubit pairs to find low-complexity structures capable of generating considerable entanglement between various qubit pairs. We find that in axially symmetric networks the generated entanglement between some qubit pairs is rather larger than generic networks. We show that in uniformly-coupled spin rings each pair can be considerably entangled through controlling suitable vertices. To...

Cavity quantum electrodynamics in the ultrastrong coupling regime

    Abstract
We revisit the mathematical formulation of the famous Jaynes-Cummings-Paul Hamiltonian, which describes the interaction of a two-level atom with a single mode of an electromagnetic cavity reservoir. We rigorously show that under the condition of ultrastrong coupling between the atom and cavity in which the transition frequency is comparable to the coupling frequency, the bosonic field operators undergo non-sinusoidal time variations. As a result, the well-known solutions to the Jaynes-Cummings-Paul model are no longer valid, even when the rotating wave approximation is not used. We show how a correct mathematical solution could be found instead

    Abstract
In this paper we introduce a coupled system of two quantum bits residing at the interface of a heterostructure device. The structure encompasses a reference quantum bit, a photonic/plasmonic crystal waveguide and an obedient quantum bit. Each quantum bit is an electronic device which is designed based on an anti-dot lattice of two-dimensional electron gas in heterostructures. By applying a potential gate in the aforementioned structure it is possible to control electronic tunneling rate and hence quantum bits' swapping frequency. Coupling through the plasmonic waveguide may be employed to entangle quantum bits. The waveguide has been designed by exploiting conducting islands of...

Topological color codes and two-body quantum lattice Hamiltonians

    , Article New Journal of Physics ; Volume 12 , 2010 ; 13672630 (ISSN) Kargarian, M ; Bombin, H ; Martin Delgado, M. A
    2010
    Abstract
Topological color codes are among the stabilizer codes with remarkable properties from the quantum information perspective. In this paper, we construct a lattice, the so-called ruby lattice, with coordination number 4 governed by a two-body Hamiltonian. In a particular regime of coupling constants, in a strong coupling limit, degenerate perturbation theory implies that the low-energy spectrum of the model can be described by a many-body effective Hamiltonian, which encodes the color code as its ground state subspace. Ground state subspace corresponds to a vortex-free sector. The gauge symmetry Z2 ×Z2 of the color code could already be realized by identifying three distinct plaquette...

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexed quantum key distribution in the presence of Raman noise

    , Article Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering, 5 April 2016 through 7 April 2016 ; Volume 9900 , 2016 ; 0277786X (ISSN) ; 9781510601451 (ISBN) Bahrani, S ; Razavi, M ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed quantum key distribution (OFDM-QKD) in an integrated quantum-classical wavelength-division-multiplexing system. The presence of an intense classical signal alongside the quantum one generates Raman background noise. Noise reduction techniques should, then, be carried out at the receiver to suppress this crosstalk noise. In this work, we show that OFDM-QKD enables efficient filtering, in time and frequency domains, making it an attractive solution for the high-rate links at the core of quantum-classical networks

Two mode mechanical non-Gaussian squeezed number state in a two-membrane optomechanical system

    , Article Optics Communications ; Volume 370 , 2016 , Pages 55-61 ; 00304018 (ISSN) Shakeri, S ; Mahmoudi, Z ; Zandi, M. H ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We consider an optomechanical system with two membranes when a bichromatic laser field with red-sideband and blue-sideband frequencies is applied in the single photon strong coupling regime. It is shown that using the mode selecting method and under the Lamb-Dicke approximation, motion of membranes can evolve to single or two mode squeezed number states. By considering the environmental effect, a Wigner function is plotted for understanding the conditions that lead to the generation of non-Gaussian states. The results show that, in this system, initial states of membranes are important to generation of non-Gaussian mechanical squeezed number states. © 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

Probabilistic analysis of tunability of step-edge josephson junction arrays’ inductance in hts microwave metamaterials

, Article Journal of Superconductivity and Novel Magnetism ; 2020 Alizadeh, A ; Rejaei, B ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
Josephson junction in superconductor circuits and metamaterials is modeled as a tunable inductance. The Josephson inductance is tunable by the bias current passing through it and can be tuned from an initial value to a very large value as much as one can push bias current near the critical current but not exceeding it. Tunability by bias current allows design of programmable metamaterials with flexible functions in microwave regime. In High-Temperature Superconductivity (HTS) tunable metamaterials, Josephson junctions should be used in series configuration to give usable tunable inductance. Each Step-Edge Josephson junction (SEJs) in HTS has a critical current that is dependent on its...

    Abstract
A practical coplanar Josephson junction left-handed transmission line based on a step-edge junction technique is proposed in high-temperature superconductor technology and analyzed by electromagnetic simulations. The layout is designed for monolayer Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide thin film fabrication process. The propagation stopbands are tunable by controlling bias currents of Josephson junction arrays acting as parallel inductors for unit cells of the transmission line. Unlike the reported designs, each unit cell of our left-handed transmission line is independently biasable due to dc isolation of the unit cells along the transmission line. Being individually biasable is practically...

Interaction of quantum dot molecules with multi-mode radiation fields

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 1 D , 2010 , Pages 59-70 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Sadeghi, A. H ; Naqavi, A ; Khorasani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this article, the interaction of an arbitrary number of quantum dots behaving as artificial molecules with different energy levels and a multi-mode electromagnetic field is studied. We make the assumption that each quantum dot can be represented as an atom with zero kinetic energy, and that all excitonic effects except dipole-dipole interactions may be. disregarded. We use the. Jaynes-Cummings-Paul model with applications to quantum systems based on a time-dependent Hamiltonian and entangled states. We obtain a system of equations describing the interaction, and present a method to solve the equations analytically for a single mode fi,eld within the Rotating-Wave Approximation. As an...

    Abstract
We have investigated various geometrical design dependencies for rapid single-flux-quantum (RSFQ) circuits in high- Tc superconductors (HTS) technology, including the characteristics of the intermediate inductances. Structural- and temporal-dependent combinations of Cn - Rn (capacitance and normal resistance of the Josephson junctions, JJs) in the HTS technology are also investigated. Relatively favorable combinations of normal resistance and low capacitance of the JJs needed in the HTS technology for RSFQ circuits have been made possible by recent fabrication methods of high-quality YBCO films. Obtaining these devices is made achievable by using the grain boundary structures and high...
