Dynamics of rear stagnant cap formation at the surface of rising bubbles in surfactant solutions at large reynolds and marangoni numbers and for slow sorption kinetics

    , Article Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects ; Volume 492 , 2016 , Pages 127-137 ; 09277757 (ISSN) Dukhin, S. S ; Lotfi, M ; Kovalchuk, V. I ; Bastani, D ; Miller, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2016
    Abstract
In spite of the high level in the theory of steady rear stagnant caps (RSC) and its influence on steady rising, its practical application is mostly impossible because the coefficients for the adsorption and desorption rates are separately unknown. The determination of ka and kd separately is an actual task for the adsorption dynamics as whole. While steady RSC and steady rising retardation by surfactants are described in literature in details, only few papers are devoted to the modeling of the decelerated rising. Moreover, steady rising depends on the ratio ka/kd and its investigation is not helpful for the determination of kd. In contrast a possibility to determine kd (or ka independently)...

Stochastic modeling of degradation behavior of hydrogels

    , Article Macromolecules ; Volume 51, Issue 11 , 2018 , Pages 3941-3952 ; 00249297 (ISSN) Jahanmir, G. S ; Abdekhodaie, M. J ; Chau, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    American Chemical Society  2018
    Abstract
We describe here a theoretical framework to model the bulk degradation of hydrogels, which are prepared by chemical cross-linking of pendant functional groups on long polymer chains. The random order of the cleavage of degradable bonds was described by stochastic Monte Carlo simulation. The events of bond cleavage were related to the macroscopic changes of hydrogel by the Bray-Merrill equation. Next, the time for the gel to disintegrate was predicted by considering the relation between the recursive nature in breaking the cross-link nodes and gel-to-sol transition. To start the simulation, initial network properties including the number of active functional groups on the polymer chain and...

    Abstract
Tributhyl phosphate (TBP) decomposition in supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) was performed with and without catalyst, at different temperatures ranging from 370 to 480 °C, and different reaction times. Ag2O, CuO, Fe2O3, MgO, and ZnO synthesized by supercritical water were examined in TBP decomposition as the catalyst. TBP structure decomposed under the non-catalytic reaction; nevertheless, the results indicated that the use of catalysts improved the reaction efficiency, which calculated based on total organic carbon (TOC) removal, by far. However, TOC removal using Fe2O3 was 20% higher than the non-catalytic reaction. Having the ability in completion of the redox cycle, iron oxide...

    Wiley-Liss Inc  2018
    Abstract
12-tungstophosphoric acid, polyoxometalate with Keggin structure, and γ-Al2O3 were synthesized. Loading of 12-tungstophosphoric acid (HPW) on γ-Al2O3 was performed by the post-impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, BET, and DRS techniques. According to the pertinent observation, using the post-impregnation method promises the stability of polyoxometalate Keggin structure after loading on γ-Al2O3 support. The stability of 20 %HPW/Al2O3 was also confirmed by a leaching test. Textural characterization demonstrates that HPW on the γ-Al2O3 had a much larger surface area as compared with the pure HPW. The 20 %HPW/Al2O3 exhibited roughly high activity toward an...
