A new monitoring design for uni-variate statistical quality control charts

    , Article Information Sciences ; Volume 180, Issue 6 , 2010 , Pages 1051-1059 ; 00200255 (ISSN) Fallah Nezhad, M. S ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research, an iterative approach is employed to analyze and classify the states of uni-variate quality control systems. To do this, a measure (called the belief that process is in-control) is first defined and then an equation is developed to update the belief recursively by taking new observations on the quality characteristic under consideration. Finally, the upper and the lower control limits on the belief are derived such that when the updated belief falls outside the control limits an out-of-control alarm is received. In order to understand the proposed methodology and to evaluate its performance, some numerical examples are provided by means of simulation. In these examples, the...

A new statistical process control method to monitor and diagnose bivariate normal mean vectors and covariance matrices simultaneously

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 43, Issue 9-10 , 2009 , Pages 964-981 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Akhavan Niaki, T ; Ostadsharif Memar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
In this paper, in order to find an adequate method of monitoring the mean vector and covariance matrix of a production process simultaneously, first, some available univariate control methods were reviewed and evaluated. Then, the maximum exponentially weighted moving average method with a better potential application and good performances in terms of average time to signal (ATS) criterion was selected to be extended to the bivariate case. In the extended procedure, by proper transformation of the control parameters, the primary control space is transformed such that all control elements have the same probability distributions. In this case, only the maximum absolute value of the transformed...

A new structured multimodel control of nonlinear systems by integrating stability margin and performance

, Article Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control, Transactions of the ASME ; Volume 139, Issue 9 , 2017 ; 00220434 (ISSN) Ahmadi, M ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper deals with a new systematic multimodel controller design for nonlinear systems. The design of local controllers based on performance requirements is incorporated with the concept of local models selection as an optimization problem. Gap metric and stability margin are used as measuring tool and operation space dividing criterion, respectively. The developed method provides support to design a simple structured multiple proportional-integral (PI) controller which guarantees both robust stability and time-domain performance specifications. The main advantages of the proposed method are avoiding model redundancy, not needing a priori knowledge about system, having simple structure,...

A non parametric approach to monitor simple linear profiles in phases I and II

    , Article Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods ; Volume 46, Issue 11 , 2017 , Pages 5203-5222 ; 03610926 (ISSN) Sayyad, A ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Afshar Najafi, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a non parametric approach is first proposed to monitor simple linear profiles with non normal error terms in Phase I and Phase II. In this approach, two control charts based on a transformation technique and decision on beliefs are designed in order to monitor the intercept and the slope, simultaneously. Then, some simulation experiments are performed in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed control charts in Phase II under both step and drift shifts in terms of out-of-control average run length (ARL1). Besides, the performance of the proposed control charts is compared to the ones of seven other existing schemes in the literature. Simulation results show that the...

A novel approach for robust control of single-link manipulators with visco-elastic behavior

    , Article 10th International Conference on Computer Modelling and Simulation, EUROSIM/UKSim2008, Cambridge, 1 April 2008 through 3 April 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 685-690 ; 0769531148 (ISBN); 9780769531144 (ISBN) Torabi, M ; Jahed, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Overwhelming number of control laws has been studied for control of robot manipulators with rigid links and joints. However controllers designed under this assumption may not accurately control the manipulator link due to visco-elastic properties that appear in the link behavior. In this study, a novel approach for robust control of a single-link manipulator is presented to force the link to have rigid motions, while it has visco-elastic behavior. In this regard, initially robot dynamics is extracted, followed by the design of four appropriate controllers through the loop-shaping approach. The obtained model is first represented in state space, however later converted to transfer function...

    Abstract
Fuzzy logic has proved to be a powerful tool to represent imprecise and irregular patterns. This paper presents a novel fuzzy approach for recognizing online Persian (Farsi) handwriting which is also useful for multi-writer environments. In this approach, the representation of handwriting parameters is accomplished by fuzzy linguistic modeling. The representative features are selected to describe the shape of tokens. Fuzzy linguistic terms provide robustness against handwriting variations. The purposed method was run on a database of Persian isolated handwritten characters and achieved a relatively high recognition rate. © 2005 IEEE

    Abstract
In this paper, a novel decentralized adaptive control scheme for multiagent formation control is proposed based on an integration of artificial potential functions with robust control techniques. Fully actuated mobile agents with partially unknown models are considered, where an adaptive fuzzy logic system is used to approximate the unknown system dynamics. The robust performance criterion is used to attenuate the adaptive fuzzy approximation error and external disturbances to a prescribed level. The advantages of the proposed controller can be listed as robustness to input nonlinearity, external disturbances, and model uncertainties, and applicability on a large diversity of autonomous...

A novel robust model reference adaptive impedance control scheme for an active transtibial prosthesis

    , Article Robotica ; Volume 37, Issue 9 , 2019 , Pages 1562-1581 ; 02635747 (ISSN) Heidarzadeh, S ; Sharifi, M ; Salarieh, H ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Cambridge University Press  2019
    Abstract
In this paper, a novel robust model reference adaptive impedance control (RMRAIC) scheme is presented for an active transtibial ankle prosthesis. The controller makes the closed loop dynamics of the prosthesis similar to a reference impedance model and provides asymptotic tracking of the response trajectory of this impedance model. The interactions between human and prosthesis are taken into account by designing a second-order reference impedance model. The proposed controller is robust against parametric uncertainties in the nonlinear dynamic model of the prosthesis. Also, the controller has robustness against bounded uncertainties due to unavailable ground reaction forces and unmeasurable...

A novel stable robust adaptive impedance control scheme for ankle prostheses

    , Article 5th RSI International Conference on Robotics and Mechatronics, IcRoM 2017, 25 October 2017 through 27 October 2017 ; 2018 , Pages 63-68 ; 9781538657034 (ISBN) Heidarzadeh, S ; Sharifi, M ; Salarieh, H ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A stable robust adaptive impedance control strategy is introduced here as a model-based low-level control scheme for active ankle prostheses. The effects of amputee-prosthesis and prosthesis-environment interactions are included in the controller design. An interesting feature of the proposed controller is that only shank and ankle angles and angular velocities, and ground reaction forces are required to implement the control law. In other words, no feedback from amputee-prosthesis interaction forces and moment, global or local positions, and accelerations of amputated place is required. Using a Lyapunov analysis, exponential convergence characteristics of the proposed controller are proven....

    , Article International Journal of Systems Science ; Volume 43, Issue 12 , 2012 , Pages 2275-2287 ; 00207721 (ISSN) Niaki, S. T. A ; Ershadi, M. J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this research, the main parameters of the multivariate cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart (the reference value k, the control limit H, the sample size n and the sampling interval h) are determined by minimising the Lorenzen-Vance cost function [Lorenzen, T.J., and Vance, L.C. (1986), The Economic Design of Control Charts: A Unified Approach, Technometrics, 28, 3-10], in which the external costs of employing the chart are added. In addition, the model is statistically constrained to achieve desired in-control and out-of-control average run lengths. The Taguchi loss approach is used to model the problem and a genetic algorithm, for which its main parameters are tuned using the response...

    Abstract
A novel output feedback neural controller is presented for the implementation of sliding mode control of DC/DC converters. The controller, which consists of a multilayer perceptron, has been trained so as to be robust for large variations of system parameters and state variables. Fast dynamic behavior is the other main advantage of the proposed controller, which allows realization of all the beneficial features of sliding mode control technique. Other advantages of the controller are simplicity and low cost. Computer simulations are carried out to investigate the effectiveness of the controller in voltage regulation for a relatively complex topology such as a Cuk converter. Simulation...

    Abstract
Predictive functional controller originally developed based on a first order reference model. In this paper the related equation of the predictive functional control is derived for an arbitrary reference model and then a simple approach to tune different parameters of the controller is examined by applying the controller on a benchmark problem. Finally, the robustness of the design is improved using the so called Youla parameterization approach. © 2005 IEEE

A robust copyright protection scheme based on discrete cosine transform and image normalization

    , Article 2011 7th Iranian Conference on Machine Vision and Image Processing, MVIP 2011 - Proceedings ; 2011 ; 9781457715358 (ISBN) Shakeri, M ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Watermarking is a way that is used to protect the copyright of images. As the existing watermarking methods are not robust enough a new novel scheme is needed. In this paper, we propose a zero-watermark discrete cosine transformation-based copyright protection scheme, in which a normalization procedure is applied in both watermark embedding and extraction to make our scheme more robust to geometric distortions. This method is resistant to malicious signal processing and geometric attacks such as blurring, JPEG compression, noise adding, sharpening, scaling, rotation and cropping. Experimental results on images with different complexity show that our proposed scheme outperforms related...

    Abstract
The main concern of steganography (image hiding) methods is to embed a secret image into a host image in such a way that the host should remain as similar as possible to its original version. In addition the host image should remain robust with respect to usual attacks. In this paper we present a method that tries to cover all above mentioned concerns. The secret and host images are divided into blocks of size 4 × 4. Each block in secret image is taken as a texture pattern for which the most similar block is found among the blocks of the host image. The embedding procedure is carried on by replacing these small blocks of the secret image with blocks in host image in such a way that least...

A robust two-degree-of-freedom control strategy for an islanded microgrid

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery ; Volume 28, Issue 3 , 2013 , Pages 1339-1347 ; 08858977 (ISSN) Babazadeh, M ; Karimi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
This paper presents a new robust control strategy for an islanded microgrid in the presence of load unmodeled dynamics. The microgrid consists of parallel connection of several electronically interfaced distributed generation units and a local load. The load is parametrically uncertain and topologically unknown and, thus, is the source of unmodeled dynamics. The objective is to design a robust controller to regulate the load voltage in the presence of unmodeled dynamics. To achieve the objective, the problem is first characterized by a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) feedback-feedforward controller. The 2DOF control design problem is then transformed to a nonconvex optimization problem....

    Abstract
Recently, protecting the copyright of digital media has become an imperative issue due to the growing illegal reproduction and modification of digital media. A large number of digital watermarking algorithms have been proposed to protect the integrity and copyright of images. Traditional watermarking schemes protect image copyright by embedding a watermark in the spatial or frequency domain of an image. However, these methods degrade the quality of the original image in some extend. In recent years, a new approach called zero-watermarking algorithms is introduced. In these methods, the watermark does not require to be embedded into the protected image but is used to generate a verification...

A systematic decomposition approach of nonlinear systems by combining gap metric and stability margin

    Abstract
In this paper, in order to control a nonlinear dynamic system via multi-model controller, we propose a systematic approach to determine the nominal local linear models. These models are selected from the local models bank and results in a reduced nominal models set that provides enough information to design a multi-model controller. To determine the initial local models bank, gap metric is used so that the distance between two successive local models is smaller than a threshold value. Then, a systematic approach that aims to get a reduced nominal models bank is developed. Based on this approach, first, a binary gap matrix is defined by combining gap metric and stability information. Then,...
