    Abstract
    In this research study, a comparative evaluation of the additional impact of nanometer-sized tetravalent oxides [Zirconia (ZrO2), Titania (TiO2), and Silica (SiO2)] on the properties and performance of Doloma-Magnesia (MgO-CaO) ceramic refractories, with an emphasis on their hydration resistance improvement, has been done. For this purpose, from 0 to 2.5 wt% ZrO2, TiO2, and SiO2 nanometer-sized particles have been added to the Doloma-Magnesia compositions. After formulation and mixing of the starting materials, the pressed samples (at 150 MPa) were tempered (at 250 °C for 12 h) and fired in a shuttle furnace (at 1650 °C for 3 h).     Abstract
    Three-dimensional (3D) bundles of self-assembled lanthanum hydroxide nanorods with average crystallite size of about 20 nm were fabricated via a facile and rapid microwave-assisted chemical route. The obtained material was characterized with X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigations. The obtained nanorods have average diameter of about 115 nm and average length of about 730 nm. Self-assembly of primary La(OH)3 nanoparticles and their subsequent anisotropic growth along 〈2 0 0〉 direction, was proposed to be the mechanism for the formation of 3D bundles of nanorods, using TEM images.     Abstract
    Very recently, we fabricated (WO3)x-(TiO 2)1-x layers via micro-arc oxidation process under different applied voltages. Morphological and topographical studies, accomplished by SEM and AFM techniques, revealed that the pores size as well as the surface roughness increased with the voltage. Phase structure and chemical composition of the layers were also investigated by XRD and XPS and the results showed the grown layers consisted of titanium and tungsten oxides. It was found that WO3 dispersed in the TiO2 matrix and also doped into the TiO2 lattice. In addition, optical properties of the synthesized layers were studied employing a UV-vis spectrophotometer.
