    The effects of annealing phenomena on the energy absorption of roll-bonded Al-steel sheets during wedge tearing

    Abstract
    The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of annealing phenomena on the energy absorption of Al-steel bilayer sheets, bonded by cold rolling, through wedge tearing. Tearing by wedge is a dissipating energy system that includes three components: cutting, friction and plastic deformation due to bending. In order to find the bonding and annealing effects on energy absorption, the non-bonded bilayer sheets are prepared in the same condition of bonded ones. The results show that energy absorption of bonded sheets is larger than that of non-bonded ones. This is due to different plastic bending moment of bonded and non-bonded bilayer sheets.     Abstract
    TCVD growth of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was reported by catalytic decomposition of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at a temperature range of 580800 °C. Laser ablation was employed as a simple and rapid technique to produce Pd nanoparticles which possess effective catalytic activities for CNT synthesis. UVvisible spectroscopy and TEM images confirmed that the Pd nanoparticles are stable for a long time and have rather spherical shape with average size of 7 nm.     The ZnO nanowires have been synthesized using vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) process on Au catalyst thin film deposited on different substrates including Si(1 0 0), epi-Si(1 0 0), quartz and alumina. The influence of surface roughness of different substrates and two different environments (Ar + H2 and N2) on formation of ZnO nanostructures was investigated. According to AFM observations, the degree of surface roughness of the different substrates is an important factor to form Au islands for growing ZnO nanostructures (nanowires and nanobelts) with different diameters and lengths.     Abstract
    The effects of Pd addition to Fe (Pd/Fe = 0, 2.5/7.5, 5/5, 7.5/2.5 and 1) and growth temperatures (920 and 970 °C) on density, diameter and growth mode of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied. SEM observations and TG analyses confirmed that the CNT yields depend on Pd/Fe ratios as (7.5/2.5) > (5/5) > Pd > (2.5/7.5) > Fe at both growth temperatures. TEM data showed that addition of Pd results in tip growth mode. From Raman spectroscopy data, the order of samples' structural quality (I G /I D ratio) are Fe > Pd/Fe (2.5/7.5) > (5/5) > (7.5/2.5) > Pd and the I G /I D ratios increase by decreasing the growth temperature.     Abstract
    The effect of particle size on the catalytic activity of H-ZSM-5 zeolite in the methanol to propylene (MTP) reaction was investigated in a fixed-bed flow reactor under the operating conditions of T = 460 °C, P = 1 atm, and WHSV = 1 h-1. Nano and micro size H-ZSM-5 were prepared by reflux and hydrothermal crystallization methods, respectively. The nano and micro H-ZSM-5 were characterized using XRD, NH3-TPD, BET area, SEM and ICP-AES analytical techniques. Nano size H-ZSM-5 showed higher activity and stability compared to the micro size H-ZSM-5. Nano H-ZSM-5 was also found to have higher selectivity to propylene than the micro size H-ZSM-5. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Abstract
    The compressive performance of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) profiles subjected to elevated temperature was investigated through a large number of (3 0 0) tests. The effects of profile cross-sectional area, slenderness, and temperature on the behavior of the GFRP profiles at temperatures ranging from 25 to 400 °C were determined. It was observed that the compressive strength of the GFRP profiles has been decreased by half as the temperature exceeded 90 °C, i.e., close to the glass transition temperature of the matrix. The temperature and ratio of cross-sectional area to external perimeter were determined as two major parameters affecting section capacity. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd  

    The effect of bainite morphology on the mechanical properties of a high bainite dual phase (HBDP) steel

    Abstract
    4340 steel bars were austenitized at 850 °C for 1 h followed by heating at 700 °C for 90 min and quenching into a salt bath at the temperature range of 300-450 °C for 1 h to obtain dual structures with 34 vol.% fraction ferrite and various bainite morphologies. SEM studies showed that by increasing the austempering temperature, bainite morphology varies from lower to upper bainite. Tensile, impact and hardness tests revealed that increasing the austempering temperature from 300 to 400 °C leads to a reduction in yield and ultimate tensile strength, hardness, uniform and total elongation and impact energy.     Abstract
    In this research, it is shown that the production of bimetallic Al/Cu rod by cold ECAE process is feasible. The mechanism of the cold weld between the copper sheath and aluminum core is assessed using the characteristics of the mating surfaces both theoretically and by examining the SEM micrographs of the peeled surfaces. It is shown that the stretch produced by the shear strain in the process leads to the fracture of the work-hardened layer of the mating surfaces and then by extruding the virgin metal through the cavities of the cracks a cold weld is developed between the sheath and core of the rod.     In this paper, a 2D shuffle-exchange based mesh topology, or 2D shuffle-exchange mesh (SEM) for short, is presented for network-on-chips. The proposed 2D topology applies the conventional well-known shuffle-exchange structure in each row and each column of the network. Compared to an equal sized mesh which is the most common topology in on-chip networks, the proposed shuffle-exchange based mesh network has smaller diameter but for an equal cost.     Various compositions of maleated ethylene-propylene-rubber (EPR-g-MA) toughened polyamide 6 without and with short glass fiber, i.e. 5-20 wt.% rubber and 5-20 wt.% fiber, are prepared using an industrial twin-screw extruder at different levels of feed rate (100-250 kg/h), screw speed (200-450 rpm) and barrel temperature (230-260 °C).     A simple method for synthesis of W17O47 nanothick plates by annealing sol-gel-deposited tungsten oxide thin films on soda lime substrate has been reported. After heat treatment of the dried thin films at 700 °C in N2 ambient for 60 min, W17O47 nanothick plates with [100] orientation were obtained.     Fe-Ni nano-particles were synthesized by mechanical alloying and subsequent low-temperature hydrogen reduction of oxide mixtures. First, single-phase nickel ferrite was mechanically synthesized for 30 h with steel balls to powder weight ratio of 20 while the milling was operated at 300 rpm.     In this work, a novel method to synthesis of an acrylic superabsorbent hydrogel was reported. In the two stage hydrogel synthesis, first copolymerization reaction of acrylonitrile (AN) and acrylamide (AM) monomers using ammonium persulfate (APS) as a free radical initiator was performed. In the second stage, the resulted copolymer was hydrolyzed to produce carboxamide and carboxylate groups followed by in situ crosslinking of the polyacrylonitrile chains.     In the present study, bioceramic composites based hydroxyapatite (HAp) reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was synthesized via sol-gel technique. The dried gels were individually heated at a rate of 5°C/min up to 600°C for 2 h in a muffle furnace in order to obtain HAp-MWCNTs mixed powder.
