    Abstract
Pervious concrete (PC) has been detecting application in pavement and concrete structures such as dams, small retaining walls, and etc during the past decades. Also, in recent years, the types of resins have been introduced to apply in concrete owing to the enhancing in mechanical and durability characteristics. However, few studies have investigated the mechanical behavior of high performance pervious concrete (HPPC) incorporated by polyester and epoxy resins as polymeric composites, where ordinary cement material has been completely deleted. The purpose of this investigation is to compare the mechanical properties, permeability, and durability of HPPCs made by polymeric composites (i.e....

    Abstract
The primary aim in pre-surgical evaluations in patients with neurological disorders such as epilepsy is determining the precise location of the cortical region responsible for the malfunctions which is called source localization. Different modalities unravel different views of brain activity. Combining these complementary aspects of the brain yields more accurate source localization. In this paper, a method is proposed for combining localization methods in different modalities based on the theory of evidence, the result of some localization methods in modalities are integrated using weights in accordance to their relative performance and are combined using Dempster's rule of combination and...

Maximizing the secrecy energy efficiency of the cooperative rate-splitting aided downlink in multi-carrier uav networks

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 71, Issue 11 , 2022 , Pages 11803-11819 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Bastami, H ; Moradikia, M ; Abdelhadi, A ; Behroozi, H ; Clerckx, B ; Hanzo, L ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Although Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are capable of significantly improving the information security by detecting the eavesdropper's location, their limited energy motivates our research to propose a secure and energy efficient scheme. Thanks to the common-message philosophy introduced by Rate-Splitting (RS), we no longer have to allocate a portion of the transmit power to radiate Artificial Noise (AN), and yet both the Energy Efficiency (EE) and secrecy can be improved. Hence we define and study the Secrecy Energy Efficiency (SEE) of a multi-carrier multi-UAV network, in which Cooperative Rate-Splitting (CRS) is employed by each multi-antenna UAV Base-Station (UAV-BS) for protecting...

    Abstract
In this paper, we present a design methodology with implementational insight and evaluate the performance of a multicarrier code-division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system using intensity modulation/direct detection scheme suitable for an indoor visible light communication (VLC) environment. The proposed system is a CDMA system based on an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) platform. To overcome the light-dimming issue, we use a newly proposed methodology, namely, polarity reversed optical OFDM (PRO-OFDM). A unipolar signal is either added to the minimum current or subtracted from the maximum current in the LED linear current range to provide various amounts of dimming. The...

    Abstract
In the present study, a rational two-step strategy is employed for the green, fast, very simple, and highly controllable synthesis of the bimetallic nickel-cobalt-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on glassy carbon substrates by in situ transformation of nickel-cobalt-layered double hydroxide nanosheet (NiCo-LDHs NSs) intermediates into nickel-cobalt-benzene tricarboxylic acid MOFs (E-NiCo-BTC MOFs). The structural characteristics of the electrode materials in each step were investigated via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, elemental mapping, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmittance electron microscopy....

ECG denoising and compression using a modified extended Kalman filter structure

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering ; Volume 55, Issue 9 , September , 2008 , Pages 2240-2248 ; 00189294 (ISSN) Sayadi, O ; Shamsollahi, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
This paper presents efficient denoising and lossy compression schemes for electrocardiogram (ECG) signals based on a modified extended Kalman filter (EKF) structure. We have used a previously introduced two-dimensional EKF structure and modified its governing equations to be extended to a 17-dimensional case. The new EKF structure is used not only for denoising, but also for compression, since it provides estimation for each of the new 15 model parameters. Using these specific parameters, the signal is reconstructed with regard to the dynamical equations of the model. The performances of the proposed method are evaluated using standard denoising and compression efficiency measures. For...

Modified solvent microextraction with back extraction combined with liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection for the determination of citalopram in human plasma

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 610, Issue 2 , 2008 , Pages 211-216 ; 00032670 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Khalilian, F ; Babanezhad, E ; Es haghi, A ; Rouini, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
A modified solvent microextraction with back extraction method (SME/BE) combined with high performance liquid chromatography and fluorescence detection (HPLC-FD) was developed for the determination of citalopram in human plasma. Extraction process was performed in a home-made total glass vial without using a teflon ring, usually employed in SME/BE. Citalopram was first extracted from 0.5 mL of plasma, modified with sodium hydroxide, into hexane. Back extraction step was then performed into 5.2 μL of 45 mM ammonium formate solution (pH 4) using a GC microsyringe. The extract was subsequently transferred into a liner-like vial and then injected into the HPLC system. An enrichment factor of 150...

A multiscale phase field method for joint segmentation-rigid registration application to motion estimation of human knee joint

    , Article Biomedical Engineering - Applications, Basis and Communications ; Volume 23, Issue 6 , 2011 , Pages 445-456 ; 10162372 (ISSN) Eslami, A ; Esfandiarpour, F ; Shakourirad, A ; Farahmand, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Image based registration of rigid objects has been frequently addressed in the literature to obtain an object's motion parameters. In this paper, a new approach of joint segmentation-rigid registration, within the variational framework of the phase field approximation of the Mumford-Shah's functional, is proposed. The defined functional consists of two Mumford-Shah equations, extracting the discontinuity set of the reference and target images due to a rigid spatial transformation. Multiscale minimization of the proposed functional after finite element discretization provided a sub-pixel, robust algorithm for edge extraction as well as edge based rigid registration. The implementation...

A hierarchical machine learning model based on Glioblastoma patients' clinical, biomedical, and image data to analyze their treatment plans

    , Article Computers in Biology and Medicine ; Volume 150 , 2022 ; 00104825 (ISSN) Ershadi, M. M ; Rahimi Rise, Z ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Aim of study: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive brain cancer in adults that kills most patients in the first year due to ineffective treatment. Different clinical, biomedical, and image data features are needed to analyze GBM, increasing complexities. Besides, they lead to weak performances for machine learning models due to ignoring physicians' knowledge. Therefore, this paper proposes a hierarchical model based on Fuzzy C-mean (FCM) clustering, Wrapper feature selection, and twelve classifiers to analyze treatment plans. Methodology/Approach: The proposed method finds the effectiveness of previous and current treatment plans, hierarchically determining the best decision for...
