Abstract
Solar systems are the most promising technologies to reduce building energy consumption. In recent years, one of the popular solar technologies is building integrated photovoltaic-thermal collectors, because of profitability and no need for separate architectural space. In this study, a new combination of glazed building integrated photovoltaic thermal solar collectors and an absorption cooling system, as a trigeneration system, to provide thermal and electrical energy demands of a case study residential building, is proposed. Dynamic simulation of the proposed system is performed using the TRNSYS-MATLAB co-simulator. Because there is no model for the glazed photovoltaic thermal solar...

Abstract
An energy management system (EMS) was proposed for a campus microgrid (μG) with the incorporation of renewable energy resources to reduce the operational expenses and costs. Many uncertainties have created problems for microgrids that limit the generation of photovoltaics, causing an upsurge in the energy market prices, where regulating the voltage or frequency is a challenging task among several microgrid systems, and in the present era, it is an extremely important research area. This type of difficulty may be mitigated in the distribution system by utilizing the optimal demand response (DR) planning strategy and a distributed generator (DG). The goal of this article was to present a...

Abstract
Over the past decades, drastic growth in the installed capacity of seawater desalination systems has increased the energy consumption and brine discharge to the environment. However, using renewable energies and zero liquid discharge systems for minimizing these challenges is limited due to the higher fresh water cost of the systems rather than that of the conventional systems. In this research, a bubble-column humidification-dehumidification zero liquid discharge system is coupled with a multiple-effect distillation/vapor compression system in a novel way to overcome the high water cost of conventional zero liquid discharge systems. Further, the base system and the solar-powered system is...

Abstract
Solar energy generation is one of the most efficient approach to solve emerging environment and energy challenges. In this context, solar assisted dissociation of water into oxygen and hydrogen utilizing scalable and high performance electrocatalysts plays key role since the produced hydrogen is a clean energy carrier. Here, cobalt based nanoflakes with metallic core and oxidized surface were grown on the designed carbonaceous layer for anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) using an electrochemical approach. Carbonaceous layers containing proper amount of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) species were used to optimize the system. Although higher weight percent of rGO...

Abstract
The combination of concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) and organic Rankine cycle (ORC) systems not only leads to a reduction of photovoltaic (PV) operating temperature, but also leads to an additional electric power production. Increase in the temperature of the PV decreases its operating efficiency, while increases the ORC efficiency. Therefore, there is an optimum temperature in which the total electricity produced by the combined system will be maximum. In this study, a modified CPV/ORC system is simulated and the optimum operating temperature of the PV panel is determined for different PV efficiencies. The most striking result is that increase in the PV nominal efficiency will result in the...

Abstract
Hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained significant attention owing to their excellent physicochemical and photovoltaic properties. PSCs typically consist of a perovskite light absorber sandwiched between two carrier selective layers optimized with respect to optimal band alignment and low interfacial recombination. The quality of the perovskite layer and interfaces play major roles in the fabrication of high-performance PSCs. In the present work, we systematically investigate the planar structure PSCs based on TiO2 and TiO2/ZnO electron transport layers (ETLs), which provide deeper insight into the charge recombination and accumulation mechanisms. We show that the double-layer...

In this paper, a feasibility study of the integration of solar panels with the grid to power small-scale reverse osmosis systems (namely up to 2000 m3/day) is conducted in Iran, as a country with a low price of electricity. For this purpose, a city located on the...

Abstract
Among the various approaches, ZnS treatment is the most convenient method for reducing the charge recombination in quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs). Here an improved method of ZnS treatment is explained for efficiency enhancement in QDSSCs. To get to the goal of device performance improvement, it is essential to have a uniform deposited layer. We utilized Triton X-100 (TX-100) as a surfactant to the convenient aqueous precursors during ZnS deposition by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method. It helps to decrease in contact angle and increase in wettability of the aqueous precursor and results in a more uniform deposited layer. The effect of modified ZnS treatment...

Abstract
The morphology of the perovskite layer, the effective extraction of the charge carriers, and their transport are the main factors determining the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this work, we demonstrated that the geometric and electronic structures of the PSCs could be modified by using a conductive polymer additive in the lead (Pb) halide layer prepared by a two-step deposition method. Polypyrrole (PPy) as a conductive polymer is used in the perovskite layers which could increase the PCE of CH3NH3PbI3-xClx mixed-halide PSCs. By adding an optimized amount of PPy, PCE has been raised from 10.4 to 13.2%. PPy acts as a conductive channel facilitating...
