, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Iraji zad, Aazam (Supervisor) ; Rahimi, Fereshte (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
H2S is a toxic gas used in chemical laboratories and industries. H2S is also liberated in nature due to biological processes and also from mines and petroleum fields. At some threshold level, exposure to concentrations over 10 ppm can result in headaches, irritability, dizziness and in some case leads to death. So that introducing sensors which sense H2S at ppm level with the low response time is so essential. The present work emphasizes on H2S resistance-sensing properties of pure and Pd doped WO3 films prepared by Arc discharge method. XRD, SEM, EDAX and XPS were applied to analyze crystal structure, morphology and chemical composition of the films. The analyzes results showed that films...

Abstract
The oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides with hydrogen peroxide in good yield and high selectivity has been catalyzed very effectively by a series of Schiff base salen-type iron complexes in a monophasic medium (CH 2Cl2/CH3OH) at ambient temperature. The results of the present study show that the reaction rate strongly depends on both catalyst steric effects and steric and electronic properties of sulfides. In the system, the electronic spectral studies are applied to explain the formation of a reactive (salen) Fe=O intermediate

Abstract
A mathematical model has been developed that is based the dual sorption in the dense layer and pore flow in the porous layer. In the porous layer a resistance model is applied where four mechanisms, i.e., Knudsen, Viscous, Slip, and Surface flows, are superimposed. Steady-state, constant pressure along the membrane and constant physical properties are assumed. Its application to the separation of H 2S/CH 4 gas mixtures as a sour gas in natural gas sweetening by using a PPO hollow fiber module is put forward. The Quasi Newton method is used to determine the parameters of membrane transport model for the case of H 2S/CH 4 separation. The H 2S and CH 4 permeances increased by increasing the...

Abstract
Development of visual detection methods regarding water pollutants can effectively facilitate water resource monitoring programs. A wide color-varying ratiometric approach has been developed for sensitive determination of sulfide by mixing orange emissive glutathione stabilized gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) and blue emissive urea stabilized carbon dots (CDs) in an appropriate ratio. Under a single excitation wavelength of 365 nm, the ratiometric fluorescence (RF) probe exhibited two distinct emission bands at 452 and 607 nm corresponding to CDs and AuNCs, respectively. Owing to the high affinity of sulfide ions to AuNCs in alkaline medium, the fluorescence (FL) of AuNCs was turned-off while the...

Abstract
Most sulfide oxidizing bioreactors are based on pure cultures or artificial mixes of microorganisms with strict requirements for growth, which make the system unstable and do not guarantee their long term performance. The ultimate goal of this study is to develop a natural mix of chemotrophic bacteria that may be applied anaerobically for the treatment of sour gas. Activated sludge from local municipal wastewater treatment plant that was maintained in endogenous anaerobic conditions for one year was used in this study. Total suspended solids (TSS) and volatile suspended solids (VSS) of the sludge was 22 gl-1 and 14.3 gl-1, respectively. A glass culture vessel had a volume of 0.65 L was used...
LiClO4 • 3H2O promoted highly regioselective ring-opening of epoxides with thiols under neutral conditions
, Article Catalysis Communications ; Volume 7, Issue 4 , 2006 , Pages 224-227 ; 15667367 (ISSN) ; Saidi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A simple, rapid, atom economy and highly efficient procedure has been developed for thiolysis of epoxides by aromatic and aliphatic thiols under solvent-free conditions. A high regioselectivity in favor of nucleophilic attack at the benzylic carbon atom of aromatic epoxides, such as styrene oxide, is observed. However, aliphatic unsymmetrical alkenyl oxides undergo selective nucleophilic attack at the sterically less hindered carbon atom. A variety of β-hydroxy sulfides were obtained in short reaction time and excellent yields with nearly complete regioselectivity. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
