Band-gap narrowing and electrochemical properties in N-doped and reduced anodic TiO2 nanotube arrays

    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Volume 270 , 2018 , Pages 245-255 ; 00134686 (ISSN) Peighambardoust, N. S ; Khameneh Asl, S ; Mohammadpour, R ; Khameneh Asl, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Electrochemical activity of TiO2 nanotube arrays (NTAs) is restricted by a wide band gap of TiO2. To overcome this restriction, we considered systematic research on two effective methods of doping of TiO2 NTAs such as the N-doping and electrochemical reductive doping and predicting the proper application of them. Band gap narrowing was occurred from 3.16 eV for undoped TiO2 NTAs to 2.9 and 2.7 eV at N-doped and self-doped TiO2 ones respectively. The electrochemical responses of the TiO2 NTAs before and after doping were examined by cyclic Voltammetry (CV) curve. To understand the electrochemical behavior of the undoped and doped TiO2 NTAs, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was...

Solution synthesis of CuSbS2 nanocrystals: a new approach to control shape and size

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 736 , 2018 , Pages 190-201 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Moosakhani, S ; Sabbagh Alvani, A. A ; Mohammadpour, R ; Ge, Y ; Hannula, S. P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Chalcostibite copper antimony sulfide (CuSbS2) micro- and nanoparticles with a different shape and size have been prepared by a new approach to hot injection route. In this method, sulfur in oleylamine (OLA) is employed as a sulfonating agent providing a simple route to control the shape and size of the particles, which enables the optimization of CuSbS2 for a variety of applications. The sulfur to metallic precursor ratio appears to be one of the most effective parameters along with the temperature and time for controlling the size and morphology of the particles. The growth mechanism study shows in addition to the CuSbS2 phase the presence of not previously observed intermediate phases...

    Abstract
Here, controlled growth of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) on free-standing porous activated reduced graphene oxide (a-rGO) paper was fabricated using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition method. The electrochemical performance of prepared film was investigated to provide effective electrode for 3D flexible high-performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and supercapacitors. The results revealed that the prepared electrode exhibited a high specific capacitance of 347 F/g at 0.5 A/g in 1 M KOH electrolyte, 60% more than non-activated rGO-paper (218 F/g). The VACNTs on a-rGO have increased the accessible surface area and acted as efficient electrical conducting paths, which...

    Abstract
In the field of energy storage by high-rate supercapacitors, there has been an upper limit for the total interfacial capacitance of carbon-based materials. This upper limit originates from both quantum and electric double-layer capacitances. Surpassing this limit has been the focus of intense research in this field. Here, we precisely investigate the effect of chemical functional groups and physical confinement on the electrochemical performance of graphene nanoribbons. We present the results of a quasi-one-dimensional single-layer graphene nanoribbon (120 nm in width and -100 μm in length) microelectrode fabricated by mechanical exfoliation of graphite, followed by electron beam lithography...

Polyphosphate-reduced graphene oxide on Ni foam as a binder free electrode for fabrication of high performance supercapacitor

    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Volume 296 , 2019 , Pages 130-141 ; 00134686 (ISSN) Talebi, M ; Asen, P ; Shahrokhian, S ; Ahadian, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2019
    Abstract
Polyphosphate reduced graphene oxide on Ni foam (PPO-RGO/NF) is synthesized by varying weight ratios of Na5P3O10 (PO): graphene oxide (GO) with a simple, scalable and low cost method through freeze-drying of the PO-GO/NF followed by thermal treatment of the prepared electrodes. The resulting samples are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and raman spectroscopy methods. The results show that the weight ratio of PO:GO, considerably affect the...

Hierarchical nickel-cobalt sulfide/niobium pentoxide decorated green carbon spheres toward efficient energy storage

    , Article Sustainable Energy and Fuels ; Volume 6, Issue 12 , 2022 , Pages 3042-3055 ; 23984902 (ISSN) Hekmat, F ; Shahi, M ; Dubal, D. P ; Shahrokhian, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Progression in the renewable energy field is tied to the development of high-performance energy storage devices with superior power and energy densities. Herein, an innovative material design was employed to prepare binder-free nickel-cobalt sulfide (NCS) on niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5)-decorated carbon spheres (CSs). Initially, CSs were directly grown on nickel foam (NF) via a hydrothermal carbonization approach. Core/shell-like NCS@Nb2O5@CS-NF was then synthesized through a hydrothermal process, followed by an electrodeposition process. When employed as an electrode material, NCS@Nb2O5@CS-NF achieved an excellent volumetric capacity of 9300 C L−1 at a current density of 18 A L−1. Later, an...

    Abstract
The increasing energy demand for next-generation portable and miniaturized electronics has drawn tremendous attention to develop microscale energy storage and conversion devices with light weight and flexible characteristics. Herein, we report the preparation of flower-like cobalt vanadium selenide/nickel copper selenide (CoVSe/NiCuSe) microspheres with three-dimensional hierarchical structure of micropore growth on copper wire for a flexible fiber microsupercapacitor (microSC) and overall water splitting. The CoV-LDH microspheres are anchored on the dendrite-like NiCu nanostructured Cu wire using a hydrothermal method (CoV-LDH/NiCu@CW). The sulfidation and selenization of CoV-LDH/NiCu was...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Leila (Author) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Miniaturization of electronic devices with portable, flexible and wearable characteristics created a great demand for high-performance microscale energy storage devices with lightweight and flexible properties. Among the energy storage devices, wire-shaped micro-supercapacitors have recently received tremendous attention due to their small size, lightweght, and high flexibility. In the first part, the porous dendritic Ni-Cu film was prepared on Cu wire substrate (CW) for fabrication of high- performance wire-type micro-supercapacitors (micro-SCs). The porous structure with dendritic morphology provides a high surface area, short ion diffusion pathway and low contact resistance between...
