    , Article Technological Forecasting and Social Change ; Volume 80, Issue 5 , 2013 , Pages 956-976 ; 00401625 (ISSN) Hooshangi, S ; Arasti, M. R ; Hounshell, D. A ; Sahebzamani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
This article concerns the notion of methodology in strategic management of R&D/technology. Though development of new tools and methods has received much attention during the recent decades, attention to understanding methodologies has remained disproportionally low. In this study we distinguish two methodologies that are used in strategic management of R&D/technology: planning methodology and evolutionary learning methodology. We mainly focus on defining and describing the origins, nature, and characteristics of the latter. We propose a framework for methodology selection by investigating context, content, and process factors. Using this framework, we provide supportive evidence for...

Optimization of multiple transmission layouts for minimal energy consumption of a battery electric vehicle

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 26, Issue 4A , 2019 , Pages 2382-2393 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Farjam, T ; Foumani, M. S ; Delkhosh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Sharif University of Technology  2019
    Abstract
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are a promising solution for reducing the impacts of passenger vehicles on the environment. However, their driving range is restricted due to the limitations of battery technologies. This range can be extended by adoption of multiple-speed transmissions. Most of the comparisons in the related studies are based on non-optimal designs or limited to modal driving cycles. Furthermore, the impact of Power-Split. Continuously Variable Transmission (PS-CVT) layout with type III power How on the power consumption of BEVs has never been examined. In this paper, single-, two-, and three-speed transmissions along with PS-C'VTs with type I and III power flows are...

An AHP-based multi-criteria model for assessment of the social sustainability of technology management process: A case study in banking industry

    , Article Technology in Society ; Volume 65 , 2021 ; 0160791X (ISSN) Chavosh Nejad, M ; Mansour, S ; Karamipour, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
The abrupt development of technology has confronted different industries' managers with crucial decision points. The scope of their decisions' impact goes beyond their companies' borders. Sustainable assessment of technology investigates the economic, environmental, and social effects of technologies on firms and their environment. Nonetheless, the technology management process includes different steps (such as technology acquisition and exploitation) which need a comprehensive decision-making tool toward sustainable development targets. This paper aims to propose an integrated decision-making model to investigate the social sustainability of the technology management process. Considering...

Discovering associations among technologies using neural networks for tech-mining

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management ; 2020 Azimi, S ; Veisi, H ; Fateh rad, M ; Rahmani, R ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2020
    Abstract
In both public and private sectors, critical technology-based tasks, such as innovation, forecasting, and road-mapping, are faced with unmanageable complexity due to the ever-expanding web of technologies which can range into thousands. This context cannot be easily handled manually or with efficient speed. However, more precise and insightful answers are expected. These answers are the fundamental challenge addressed by tech-mining. For tech-mining, discovering the associations among them is a critical task. These associations are used to form a weighted directed graph of technologies called “association tech-graph” which is used for technology development, trend analysis, policymaking,...

    An MDA-based system development lifecycle

    , Article 2nd Asia International Conference on Modelling and Simulation, AMS 2008, Kuala Lumpur, 13 May 2008 through 15 May 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 836-842 ; 9780769531366 (ISBN) Asadi, M ; Ravakhah, M ; Ramsin, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
OMG's Model Driven Architecture (MDA) has deeply influenced modern-day software development, not only by providing promising means for automating the software process, but also through revitalizing the role of modeling in software development, the importance of which had been neglected during the recent euphoria over lightweight development methods. However, MDA's need to remain reasonably abstract means that it is more a software development approach rather than a standalone methodology, and therefore needs methodology support to be practically useful. Several MDA-based methodologies exist today, yet the need remains for the definition of an instantiable MDA-based development process. We...

Proposal of a new design for valveless micropumps

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , December , 2011 , Pages 1261-1266 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Afrasiab, H ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Assempour, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
A new design for a valveless micropumping device has been proposed that integrates two existing pumping technologies, namely, the wall induced traveling wave and the obstacle-type valveless micropump. The liquid in the microchannel is transported by generating a traveling wave on the channel, while the placing of two asymmetric trapezoid obstacles, along the centerline of the channel inlet and outlet, leads to a significant (up to seven times) increase of the net flow rate of the device. The effectiveness of this innovative design has been proved through a verified three-dimensional finite element model. FluidStructure Interaction (FSI) analysis is performed in the framework of an Arbitrary...

Iran atlas of offshore renewable energies

    , Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 36, Issue 1 , January , 2011 , Pages 388-398 ; 09601481 (ISSN) Abbaspour, M ; Rahimi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The aim of the present study is to provide an Atlas of IRAN Offshore Renewable Energy Resources (hereafter called 'the Atlas') to map out wave and tidal resources at a national scale, extending over the area of the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman. Such an Atlas can provide necessary tools to identify the areas with greatest resource potential and within reach of present technology development. To estimate available tidal energy resources at the site, a two-dimensional tidally driven hydrodynamic numerical model of Persian Gulf was developed using the hydrodynamic model in the MIKE 21 Flow Model (MIKE 21HD), with validation using tidal elevation measurements and tidal stream diamonds from...
