    Penetration of elliptical liquid jets in low-speed crossflow

    Abstract
    Trajectory and penetration of elliptical liquid jets emerged into a low-speed crossflow of air are studied. The jets are introduced to the crossflow at different momentum ratios ranging from 1 to 300. The images are analyzed to obtain the trajectories of the outer boundary of the jets for two different aspect ratios. An empirical correlation is proposed for the present injector geometries and for the range of momentum ratio, Weber, and Reynolds numbers used in this study. Finally, a theoretical model for the trajectory of the liquid column for an initially elliptical liquid emerging into a crossflow is presented, and the associated drag coefficients are obtained for a precise trajectory... 

    Dynamics of nanodroplets on wettability gradient surfaces

    Abstract
    A lubrication model is used to study the dynamics of nanoscale droplets on wettability gradient surfaces. The effects of the gradient size, size of the nanodroplets and the slip on the dynamics have been studied. Our results indicate that the position of the center of mass of the droplets can be well described in terms of a third-order polynomial function of the time of the motion for all the cases considered. By increasing the size of the droplets the dynamics increases. It is also shown that the slip can considerably enhance the dynamics. The results have been compared with the results obtained using theoretical models and molecular dynamics simulations

    We have developed an analytic approach to investigate the effect of group delay ripple of the dispersive devices on the performance of two major building blocks of microwave- photonic filters. Firstly, performance of PM-based block in the presence of an arbitrary group delay ripple (GDR) is analyzed and compared with the ripple-free case to reveal the destructive effects of added group delay ripple. In the next step, we repeat the proposed approach for the AM-based one; again, the performance is compared with the ripple-free case.     A novel rotary magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) (RMHD) micropump is presented in this paper in order to both benefit exclusive advantages from the MHD micropumps and eliminate the current obstacles in their implementation. Lorentz force, which is the actuation mechanism in RMHD, is used to propel a mercury slug in a circular microchannel in order to suck the working fluid from the inlet and pump it to the outlet.     We report the development of an efficient, customized spherical indentation-based testing method to systematically estimate the hydraulic permeability of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogels fabricated in a wide range of mass concentrations and photocrosslinking conditions. Numerical simulations and Biot's theory of poroelasticity were implemented to calibrate our experimental data. We correlated elastic moduli and permeability coefficients with different GelMA concentrations and crosslinking densities. Our model could also predict drug release rates from the GelMA hydrogels and diffusion of biomolecules into the three-dimensional GelMA hydrogels. The results potentially provide a design...

    Abstract
    We present a study of the structural and electrical behavior of nano-polycrystalline mixed barium and alkali substituted lanthanum-based manganite, (La1-yKy)0.7Ba0.3MnO 3 with y=0.00.3. The samples were synthesized by the polymerization complex solgel method. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data of the samples show a single-phase character with R3c space group. The magnetic and electrical transport properties of the nano-polycrystalline samples have been investigated in the temperature range 50300 K and a magnetic field up to 10 kOe.     The adsorption of proteins at liquid interfaces happens at rather low bulk concentrations due to their rather high surface activity. In contrast typical surfactants start to decrease the surface tension at bulk concentration in the range of mmol/l and reach a minimum value at about two or three orders of magnitude higher concentration. The two proteins studied here, β-lactoglobulin and β-casein, adsorb already remarkably at much lower concentrations, i.e. less than 1. μmol/l.     This work presents a method to find the exact solutions for the free vibration analysis of a delaminated beam based on the Timoshenko type with different boundary conditions. The solutions are obtained by the method of Lagrange multipliers in which the free vibration problem is posed as a constrained variational problem.     Abstract
    Electrochemical deposition of aluminum and lead from basic molten AlCl3-NaCl-KCl mixture on an aluminum electrode at 180 °C was studied by the methods of voltammetry, potential and current transient and constant current deposition. The deposition of aluminum was found to proceed via a nucleation/growth mechanism, while the deposition of lead was found to be diffusion controlled. The diffusion coefficient calculated for Pb2+ ions in basic melt by voltammetry was in agreement with the deductions of transient method.     We propose two nonlinear regression methods, namely, Adversarial Orthogonal Regression (AdOR) for additive noise models and Adversarial Orthogonal Structural Equation Model (AdOSE) for the general case of structural equation models.     Three different wire drawing schedules were attempted to examine the effects of reduction of area, die-angle and friction coefficient on the strain inhomogeneity of drawn copper wires. The microhardness distribution was studied over the transverse and longitudinal cross-sections. Inhomogeneity factor (I. F.) curves; I. F. = f(r), I. F. = g(2α) and I. F. = h(μ) were determined from the measurements. The results indicate that less strain inhomogeneity is achieved in drawing wires through dies with low angle, low friction coefficient and high reduction of area. The described system is a two-stage beam shaping device including a fiber-bundle and a prism-duct.
