    , Article Applied Catalysis A: General ; Volume 378, Issue 2 , 2010 , Pages 195-201 ; 0926860X (ISSN) Mazloum Ardakani, M ; Beitollahi, H ; Sheikh Mohseni, M. A ; Naeimi, H ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In the present paper, the use of a carbon paste electrode modified by 2,2′-[1,2 buthanediylbis (nitriloethylidyne)]-bis-hydroquinone (BH) and TiO2 nanoparticles prepared by a simple and rapid method was described. The modified electrode showed an excellent character for electrocatalytic oxidization of norepinephrine (NE), acetaminophene (AC) and folic acid (FA). Using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), a highly selective and simultaneous determination of NE, AC and FA has been explored at the modified electrode. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) peak currents of NE, AC and FA increased linearly with their concentration at the ranges of 4.0-1100.0 μM, 12.5-500.0 μM and 200.0-3200.0 μM,...

    Abstract
A carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with 2,2′-[1,2 butanediylbis(nitriloethylidyne)]-bis-hydroquinone (BBNBH) and TiO2 nanoparticles was used for the sensitive voltammetric determination of epinephrine (EP). The electrochemical response characteristics of the modified electrode toward EP and acetaminophen (AC) were investigated by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry (CV and DPV). The results showed an efficient catalytic activity of the electrode for the electrooxidation of EP, which leads to a reduction in its overpotential by more than 270 mV. The effects of pH and potential sweep rate on the mechanism of the electrode process were investigated. The modified electrode exhibits an...

Voltammetric determination of dopamine at the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles modified carbon paste electrode

    Abstract
In the present paper, the use of a novel carbon paste electrode modified by N,N'(2,3-dihydroxybenzylidene)-1,4-phenylenediamine (DHBPD) and TiO2 nanoparticles prepared by a simple and rapid method for the determination of dopamine (DA) was described. In the first part of the work, cyclic voltammetry was used to investigate the redox properties of this modified electrode at various solution pH values and at various scan rates. A linear segment was found with slope value of about 48 mV/pH in the pH range 2.0 -12.0. The apparent charge transfer rate constant (ks) and transfer coefficient (α) for electron transfer between DHBPD and TiO2 nanoparticles-carbon paste electrode were calculated. In...

Reactive friction stir processing of AA 5052-TiO2 nanocomposite: process-microstructure-mechanical characteristics [electronic resource]

    , Article Journal of Materials Science and Technology ; 2014, Vol.0, Issue 0 Khodabakhshi, F ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Kokabi, A. H ; Sadeghahmadi, M ; Gerlich, A. P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Friction stir processing (FSP) is a solid state route with a capacity of preparing fine grained nanocomposites from metal sheets. In this work, we employed this process to finely distribute TiO2 nanoparticles throughout an Al–Mg alloy, aiming to enhance mechanical properties. Titanium dioxide particles (30 nm) were preplaced into grooves machined in the middle of the aluminium alloy sheet and multipass FSP was afforded. This process refined the grain structure of the aluminium alloy, distributed the hard nanoparticles in the matrix and promoted solid state chemical reactions at the interfaces of the metal/ceramic particles. Detailed optical and electron microscopic studies showed that the...

The decoration of TiO2/reduced graphene oxide by Pd and Pt nanoparticles for hydrogen gas sensing

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 37, Issue 20 , October , 2012 , Pages 15423–15432 Esfandiar, A. (Ali) ; Ghasemi, S. (Shahnaz) ; Irajizada, A. (Azam) ; Akhavana, O. (Omid) ; Gholami, M. R. (Mohammad Reza) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was used to improve the hydrogen sensing properties of Pd and Pt-decorated TiO2 nanoparticles by facile production routes. The TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by sol–gel method and coupled on GO sheets via a photoreduction process. The Pd or Pt nanoparticles were decorated on the TiO2/RGO hybrid structures by chemical reduction. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrated that GO reduction is done by the TiO2 nanoparticles and Ti–C bonds are formed between the TiO2 and the RGO sheets as well. Gas sensing was studied with different concentrations of hydrogen ranging from 100 to 10,000 ppm at various temperatures. High sensitivity (92%) and fast response time...

Application of the statistical Taguchi method to optimize TiO2 nanoparticles synthesis by the hydrothermal assisted sol-gel technique

    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 40, Issue 3 , 2014 , pp. 4193-4201 ; ISSN: 02728842 Naghibi, S ; Faghihi Sani, M. A ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal assisted sol-gel technique. The preparation parameters including pH value, the amount of water, titanium tetra isopropoxide content, temperature and time of hydrothermal process were investigated by Taguchi statistical experiments to determine the influence of synthesizing variables on the optimal conditions and to realize the highest degree of crystallinity or smallest crystallite size. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and direct band gap energy (Eg) values, measured via diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS), proved that all the samples consist of anatase as a unique phase. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and specific surface area...

    , Article Journal of Membrane Science ; Volume 383, Issue 1-2 , 2011 , Pages 197-205 ; 03767388 (ISSN) Samimi, A ; Mousavi, S. A ; Moallemzadeh, A ; Roostaazad, R ; Hesampour, M ; Pihlajamaki, A ; Manttari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Polysulfone (PSU) and polyethersulfone (PES) porous membranes; and mixed polymer with nanoparticles TiO2, were prepared for air humidification. The mechanical properties and morphology of these membranes were studied by Tensile tester and SEM/EDX. The effects of membrane composition and operating factors on humidifier performance were investigated. The results revealed that the membrane composition and its structure have significant effect on humidification. The porous membranes with finger type cavities had higher humidification performance but lower mechanical properties. Water flux of the membranes was about 0.16-0.2L/hm2 at 25°C. Furthermore, adding 0.1wt% TiO2 nanoparticles to casting...
