    Abstract
The growing number of Internet users and the prevalence of web applications make it necessary to deal with very complex software and applications in the network. This results in an increasing number of new vulnerabilities in the systems, and leading to an increase in cyber threats and, in particular, zero-day attacks. The cost of generating appropriate signatures for these attacks is a potential motive for using machine learning-based methodologies. Although there are many studies on using learning-based methods for attack detection, they generally use extracted features and overlook raw contents. This approach can lessen the performance of detection systems against content-based attacks...

    Abstract
Human parvovirus B19 (B19) is a small, non-enveloped virus and belongs to Parvoviridae family. B19 persists in many tissues such as thyroid tissue and even thyroid cancer. The main aim of this study was to determine the presence of B19, its association with increased inflammation in thyroid tissue, and thus its possible role in thyroid cancer progression. Studies have shown that virus replication in non-permissive tissue leads to overexpression of non-structural protein and results in upregulation of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin 6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha. A total of 36 paraffin-embedded thyroid specimens and serum were collected from patients and 12 samples were used...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aghajanzadeh, Omid (Author) ; Zohour, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hepatitis B is an infectious disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) which affects the liver. Several dynamic models have been developed to mathematically describe the HBV infection and antiviral therapy. In this thesis, a nonlinear adaptive control strategy is developed for the treatment of the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection inside a body. The considered nonlinear HBV model has three state variables, the numbers of uninfected and infected cells and free viruses. The proposed control law is designed for the antiviral drug input such that the number of free viruses per unit volume of the blood and consequently the number of infected cells decrease to some desired values. The...

    Abstract
The outbreak of a type of corona virus in 2019, plunged the world into a huge panic. Businesses entered into an unprecedented recession and economic growth was severely reduced. Millions of people have been infected and unfortunately countless numbers have also lost their lives. This which quickly crossed the borders of countries, proved how much a not-so-deadly infectious disease can affect human life. Another point that was revealed was the importance of epidemiology knowledge. Since the beginning of the outbreak of this disease, scientists in this field have tried to predict the state of the disease in the coming days by presenting models. Many countries formed special working groups to...

    Abstract
In this paper the field-effect transistor DNA biosensor for detecting hepatitis B virus (HBV) based on indium tin oxide nanowires (ITO NWs) in label free approach has been fabricated. Because of ITO nanowires intensive conductance and functional modified surface, the probe immobilization and target hybridization were increased strongly. The high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) measurement showed that ITO nanowires were crystalline and less than 50 nm in diameter. The single-stranded hepatitis B virus DNA (SS-DNA) was immobilized as probe on the Au-modified nanowires. The DNA targets were measured in a linear concentration range from 1fM to 10 µM. The detection limit of...

Oncolytic paramyxoviruses-induced autophagy; A prudent weapon for cancer therapy

    , Article Journal of Biomedical Science ; Volume 26, Issue 1 , 2019 ; 10217770 (ISSN) Keshavarz, M ; Solaymani Mohammadi, F ; Miri, S. M ; Ghaemi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Oncolytic virotherapy has currently emerged as a promising approach upon which scientists have been able to induce tumor-specific cell death in a broad spectrum of malignancies. Paramyxoviruses represent intrinsic oncolytic capability, which makes them excellent candidates to be widely used in oncolytic virotherapy. The mechanisms through which these viruses destroy the cancerous cells involve triggering the autophagic machinery and apoptosis in target cells. Interestingly, oncolytic paramyxoviruses have been found to induce autophagy and lead to tumor cells death rather than their survival. Indeed, the induction of autophagy has been revealed to enhance the immunogenicity of tumor cells via...

    Abstract
In this study, an impulsive state feedback controller has been proposed for the treatment of hepatitis-C-infected patients under Pegylated-Interferon (PEG-IFN-α2b) therapy. The Neumann model has been utilized as the representative of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) dynamics. In order to consider the drug efficacy variation between injections, the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) equations have been included in the model. The impulsive nature of the drug injection also has been considered in the disease dynamics. In the proposed treatment method, the drug dose limitation has been addressed as an input nonlinearity. The asymptotical stability of the control method under the impulsive...

    2007
    Abstract
This paper compares the Shuffling-Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (Shuffling-ANFIS) with conventional ANFIS as the method for selecting the features of nonlinear systems. Shuffling-ANFIS technique uses the advantage of data splitting with the ANFIS as a powerful feature selection method to select the most important factors affecting nonlinear phenomena. In this technique, the features with the largest percent of frequency can be found by running the conventional ANFIS sequential forward search on the large number of training and test sets using leave-one-out validation criteria. The superiority of Shuffling-ANFIS over the conventional ANFIS was evaluated by using two synthetic and one...

    Abstract
A naked-eye (equipment-free), label-free (cost-effective), and RNA extraction-free (to speed up) method for SARS-CoV-2 (as a case study of RNA viruses) detection is developed. Here, the DNA is being used as a template for in situ formation of anisotropic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) without any chemical modification or DNA labeling. In this study, synthesized AuNPs for the direct detection of N-gene (nucleocapsid phosphoprotein) of SARS-CoV-2 are exploited. To this aim, antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) with an extra poly guanine tail (G12) were designed. Thus, in the presence of its viral target RNA gene and ASOs@AuNPs-RNA hybridization, there was a red shift in its localized surface plasmon...

Inactivation methods for whole influenza vaccine production

    , Article Reviews in Medical Virology ; Volume 29, Issue 6 , 2019 ; 10529276 (ISSN) Sabbaghi, A ; Miri, S. M ; Keshavarz, M ; Zargar, M ; Ghaemi, A ; Sharif University of Technology]

    Abstract
Despite tremendous efforts toward vaccination, influenza remains an ongoing global threat. The induction of strain-specific neutralizing antibody responses is a common phenomenon during vaccination with the current inactivated influenza vaccines, so the protective effect of these vaccines is mostly strain-specific. There is an essential need for the development of next-generation vaccines, with a broad range of immunogenicity against antigenically drifted or shifted influenza viruses. Here, we evaluate the potential of whole inactivated vaccines, based on chemical and physical methods, as well as new approaches to generate cross-protective immune responses. We also consider the mechanisms by...
