    2008
    Abstract
This paper deals with the modeling and simulation of binary liquid-phase adsorption of methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide from a liquid butane stream by zeolite molecular sieve 13X in a fixed bed. The model equations account for the effect of axial dispersion and the inter- and intraparticle, mass-transfer resistances at isothermal operating conditions. Orthogonal collocation and Gill's fourth-order Runge-Kutta methods were used to solve the dimensionless general forms of the 4N-eoupled ordinary differential equations for simultaneous adsorption of the solutes by the adsorbent in a fixed bed. The model predictions were compared to the commercial-scale plant data of an Iranian...

    Abstract
Zeolite-based Ag/AgBr and Ag/AgBr/TiO 2 photocatalysts were prepared by sol-gel and deposition methods and were characterized. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by inactivation of Escherichia (E.) coli and the photodegradation of Acid Blue 92 and potassium permanganate. The composites containing Ag/AgBr showed the antibacterial activity in the dark by releasing Ag ions into the medium. The results for inactivation of E. coli indicated that Ag/AgBr/TiO 2 modified photocatalyst had better antibacterial activity than Ag/AgBr/zeolite, while zeolite and TiO 2/zeolite did not show any antibacterial activity under visible light and dark conditions. Photodecolarization rate was affected...

The Effect of Fouling Reducers on Removal of Volatile Organic Compound in Membrane Bioreactors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Siavash (Author) ; Shaygan Salek, Jalaloddin (Supervisor) ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Biodegradation is an effective method for removal of hazardous organic compounds such as styrene and ethylbenzene from petrochemical wastewaters. Although using this method for wastewater treatment meets (satisfies) the industrial standards, still these methods have significant disadvantages. Active sludge systems can not be effective enough due to the volatility and recalcitrance of styrene and ethylbenzene and a significant amount of volatile organic compounds exists in the discharging air. In order to reduce or totally remove this amount of pollutants in the discharging air, Membrane Bioreactors are used. One of the main problems of these systems is membrane fouling. In this thesis the...
