On reliable routing in wireless networks with diversity

, Article 4th IEEE and IFIP International Conference on Wireless and Optical Communications Networks, WOCN 2007, Singapore, 2 July 2007 through 4 July 2007 ; 2007 ; 1424410045 (ISBN); 9781424410040 (ISBN) Shariatpanahi, P ; Foroughmand Aarabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Many forms of diversity have been exploited in communication systems to combat fading nature of wireless channels. Some examples are time diversity, frequency diversity, space diversity and multiuser diversity. However, another form of diversity inherent in any wireless network, which is usually not exploited, is the diversity due to the shared medium of propagation. When in a network one node transmits to the other node, all the other nodes may hear this transmission and some of them can decode the data as well. This data can be used later to enhance the end-to-end network reliability. Previous works mostly consider some special cases of relay nodes configurations, not the general case. In...

Fusion of Inertial Navigation and Visual Odometry

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aarabi Ardakani, Mohammad Sajjad (Author) ; Sayyadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The error of the inertial navigation system increases over time due to the cumulative errors of sensors. Inertial navigation system couples with sensors or other systems to prevent navigation system errors growth. One of the systems that can be used to couple with inertial navigation system is visual odometry. Visual odometry can calculate relative position of the camera at any time and estimate the device path through input images from one camera (Monocular) or multiple cameras (Stereo). Visual odometry algorithms improvements in recent decade cause this system used as real time. In this thesis, DSO algorithm, which is a direct method and monocular approach, couples with an inertial system...

    Abstract
Feature extraction and classification are the most important parts of BCI systems. The new branch of BCI studies focuses on the design of a classifier that is trained to function properly for each individual. This problem is known as Transfer Learning. In between-subject classification, due to the differences in the neural signals' distribution of different individuals, using the common methods of feature extraction for training the classifier, does not lead to high accuracy for the test subject. As a result, in this study, we present a method for extracting features that perform well in between subjects classifications. The data that we used in this study are EEG signals recorded during...

    Abstract
Online problems were first introduced in 1980s due to process the data arise from the internet. An Online algorithm is an algorithm which takes a part of input at each step and should give an irrevocable answer before entrance of the rest of data. Online problems are considered when the size of the input is substantial or there are time limitations to wait for the whole input to arrive. One of the first online algorithms discussed was the online bipartite matching. In this problem there exists a bipartite graph with one offline part which is present from the beginning and nodes of the other part entering one by one with all of their corresponding edges. At the entrance of each node the...

    Abstract
Classification is the most important part of brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. Because the neural activities of different individuals are not identical, using the ordinary methods of subject-dependent classification, does not lead to high accuracy in betweensubject classification problems. As a result, in this study, we propose a novel method for classification that performs well in between-subject classification. In the proposed method, at first, the subject-dependent classifiers obtained from the train subjects are applied to the test trials to obtain a set of scores and labels for the trials. Using these scores and the real labels of the labeled test trials, linear regression is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Aarabi, Masoud (Author) ; Sanaei, Esmaeel (Supervisor) ; Pezeshk, Amir Mansoor (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, increasingly improvements in the digital technology and the advantages of using digital signal processing methods lead engineers to use digital signal processing instead of analog processing in variant domains. However, speed limitations in analog to digital converters (ADCs) and data transfer ports prevent its penetration to high frequency signals region. In this thesis, an Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) system that can measure frequency in the range of 2-18 GHz is implemented fully digital (DIFM) on FPGA. To do so, monobit sampling technique with the sampling rate of 10 GHz is selected, and GTX high speed serial port is configured to transfer digital data into FPGA....

Developing a Parallel DSMC Algorithm for Simulating Flow in Micro-Nano Propulsion Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirjalili, Vahid (Author) ; Darbandi, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the rapid development of mico-nano propulsion systems in micro-spacecrafts and micro-sattelites, precise investigation of flow field in these devices has become necessary. Micro propulsion systems usually have a thrust in order of mili Newton, and they can be used for maneuvers of spacecrafts with mass of less than 10 kg. Micro propulsion systems are usually classified according to their thrust generation mechanism to different classes like cold gas, and chemical propulsion systems. Cold gas micro propulsion systems obtain their energy from thermodynamic expansion of gas and not by combustion. If the flow fiel dimensionare comparable to mean free path, rarefaction effects are observed...

Novel manufacturing technologies in micro scales, such as micro machining, guide us through constructing micro scale systems known as MEMS. These systems have a wide range of applications, from fabrication of electrostatic, magnetic, pneumatic sensors and actuators to micro mechanical gears and motors. Also, MEMS applications involve the manipulation of one or more fluids, known as microfluids. Simulation of flow through microchannels over nano particles has important applications in solid particles transport. In this flow, the rarefaction phenomenon will affect the flow behavior and its subsequent impacts such as aerodynamic drag forces. In this work, we use the Lattice Boltzmann method...

Nonlinear Performance of 3-D Steel Structures by Scaled Nonlinear Dynamic Procedure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemian, Behdad (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It is well known that the most rigorous method to assess the performance and to predict the seismic demands of a structure subjected to earthquake is nonlinear time history analysis. However, this technique is accompanied by complexities and difficulties in evaluating the seismic demands of structures and requires superior knowledge and skill. As a result, in recent years, nonlinear static analysis has been proposed in performance based design procedures. One of the primary assumptions of nonlinear static procedures is that the behavior of a structure with multiple degrees of freedom (MDOF) subjected to seismic ground motion can be estimated from the response of an oscillator with a single...

On the Dynamic Response of Funicular Shells and Evaluation of the Behavior Factor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kadivar, Amin (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Dynamic behavior of space structures are of great complexities. On the event of severe earthquake these structures exhibit high resistance and on the other hand, their high rigidity and small deformation makes it necessary to pay attention to their dynamic behavior, especially when combined with other types of structural systems. Also due to lack of sufficient codes and references, their dynamic behavior is still unknown to a great extend. Among these kinds of structures, reinforced concrete double curvature shells, and especially funicular shells, are much more important than others. In this thesis, dynamic response of these kind of structures, especially reinforced concrete domes, in...

Only the redistribution role of government has been considered. First, the model in which a benevolent government is seeking optimal policy is Discussed....

Modelling Point and non Point Source of Nitrate with SWAT in the Jajrood River Watershed

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamshidi, Mahdi (Author) ; Tajrishy, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
To investigate boiling heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids, transient quenching¬ experiments of a high temperature silver sphere in water-based nanofluids with Ag and TiO2 nanoparticles were performed. A silver sphere of 10 mm in diameter at the initial temperature of 700o C was quenched in the nanofluids at the temperature of 90o C. The results showed considerable reduction in the quenching ability of nanofluids compared to that of pure water. The presence of nanoparticles in water caused film boiling mode to vanish at lower temperatures depending on the mixture concentration. Computed heat transfer rates in nanofluids were lower than those in pure water. In the quenching...
