Abstract
The successful development and implementation of a knowledge management system requires principles and instructions compatible with the organization. In the absence of essential and domestic components of a given organization, the process of knowledge management implementation will fail to be successfully completed. There are now various models for the implementation of knowledge management; however, these models only recommend general strategic guidelines, hardly offering any specific strategic plans as to how organizations can successfully and effectively implement knowledge management. Since the promotion of productivity is the ultimate goal of knowledge management, the present research...
Coordinated Scheduling of Power and Natural Gas Systems Considering Demand Uncertainty
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiee, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The everyday increasing electricity consumption of household and industrial sectors across the world, and also the limited generation capacity and fuel supplies has led electricity companies, whether in private or government sectors, to focus deliberately on power generation planning, its costs, risks and constraints Because of many reasons including high efficiency, low cost of capital investment, expeditious permitting, and operation flexibility of gas-fired generating units, electricity companies prefer them to old ones like coal-fired or oil-fired generating units. Thus natural gas has gained a significant share in the portfolio of electricity generation fuel resources, and it is...

Abstract
This paper describes a novel Direct Torque Control (DTC) method for adjustable speed Doubly-Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) drives which is supplied by a two-level Space Vector Modulation (SVM) voltage source inverter (DTC-SVM) in the rotor circuit. The inverter reference voltage vector is obtained by using input-output feedback linearization control and a DFIM model in the stator a-b axes reference frame with stator currents and rotor fluxes as state variables. Moreover, to make this nonlinear controller stable and robust to most varying electrical parameter uncertainties, a two layer recurrent Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used to estimate a certain function which shows the machine...

Abstract
In the past decades, hydrogels have been used as an adsorbent with high potential to remove pollutants in water. Hydrogels are three-dimensional polymer networks that have the ability to absorb and store water and water-soluble compounds due to the presence of hydrophilic functional groups in their structure. Different particles with unique characteristics can be used to increase the efficiency of hydrogel absorption. Based on the type of pollutant, hydrogels are divided into three different forms, including particles, films and nanocomposites. In this research, the absorption effect of metal cations as well as the absorption kinetics of polyvinyl pyrrolidine-based hydrogels, sodium...

Media Bias Analysis for Persian Text News
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
There are different types of media bias. The aim of this study is to analyze media bias by considering two types of it: selection (or coverage) bias and language bias. Thus we have collected some specific news stories or articles -which contain “Iran” as a keyword- from the websites of four news broadcasters that are Al Arabiya, Deutsche Welle (DW), Radio France Internationale (RFI) and SPUTNIK, to build text datasets. For the purpose of comparing and analyzing media bias, the news had to be gathered during two time frames before and after the day the P5+1, European Union and Iran reached Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Finally, the collected corpora have amounted to 784 news...

Abstract
Control of MMA polymerization batch reactor has intensively investigated. The nonlinear and time varying behavior of the system makes its control a challenging task. MPC algorithm is enjoying an increasing application for control of chemical processes. A sequential linearized model based predictive controller based on the DMC algorithm was designed to control the temperature of a batch MMA polymerization reactor. A genetic algorithm (GA) is suggested to optimize the cost function of DMC. The controller performance was studied via simulation. The controller performance in tracking the profile, noise and disturbances rejection is very good

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zohoor, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Rotor-dynamics is an important field of study in dynamical systems. Because of demands for rotary machines with high speeds such as turbines, pumps, fans, spindle machines and so on, the dynamic and stability analysis of these systems are considered over a hundred years. As some of the rotor systems are supported by rolling bearings with radial clearance, the dynamic and stability analysis of such systems can be helpful in the corresponding areas of the industry. In this thesis by utilizing regional stsbility concept, the Hybrid analysis of system is performed. The system includes a rigid and symmetric rotor which has two degrees of freedom. The bearings are considered to be tapered roller...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahlooji, Hashem (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, optimization via simulation for the systemswhose objective function has stochastic characteristic and doesn’t explicitly exist in closed form, has attracted considerable interest.Simulation of this kind of systems at times may be veryexpensive. In this research, the constraint simulation optimization problem is considered for solving problems with stochastic features based on metamodels. For this purpose, stochastic Kriging is used as a metamodel. In this method, first, a few feasible points in the solution space are identified by thek-optimal design of experiment and then the simulation runs are performed. In the next step, a metamodel is fitted to all the stochastic...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Modarres Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
This thesis develops a novel metaheuristic algorithm –Root Search algorithm- which is inspired by behavior of tree roots. The Root Search (RS) algorithm is capable of approximating an upperbound for the gap between obtained solution by itself and the optimal solution. In order to evaluating proposed algorithm’s performance, firstly a continuous genetic algorithm is defined, secondly both algorithms are implemented on several unconstrained continuous optimization problems, and finally the results are compared. Additionally this thesis reviews natural-insured metaheuristic algorithms so that the unique aspects of the RS algorithm can be distinguished

Abstract
Because of their high performance and unique abilities like producing none-rotating wake, Counter Rotating Propellers (C.R.P.) are being used in many advanced propulsion or ventilation systems. But due to complicated design procedure of C.R.P. fans up to now it was not possible to apply the concept in reversible systems. For the first time in this research, a new method presented to design a reversible counter rotating propeller system. This method is based on designing a basic C.R.P. by a reliable edition of blade element theory to achieve maximum performance in main rotating course and then to optimize it in order to have almost same performance in reverse rotating course. After expressing...
Design and Optimization of a Lens for Beam Shaping in a Terahertz Standoff Imaging System
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadi Boroujeni, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Terahertz waves have three important features that make them suitable for security imaging. 1. THz waves can penetrate or can be absorbed from many of non-metallic and non-polar materials and are perfectly reflected from most of the metals, 2. Drugs and explosives have terahertz spectra that can be detected by THz imaging, 3. THz waves do not have an ionizing effect and are harmless to the human body. Lenses can be considered as a major component of the terahertz imaging systems. Because of the relatively large terahertz wavelengths compared with wavelengths, compression, and decreasing the dimensions of the lenses in these systems matters a lot. In addition, reducing the wave reflection...

Abstract
In this paper, we report on a periodic metallo-dielectric structure that supports geometry-induced surface plasmons in the sub-terahertz regime. The proposed structure is made up of a dielectric-coated metallic grating sandwiched by parallel metal plates. Based on the modal analysis of 2D and 3D structures, the impact of a metal cladding and a customized dielectric coating on the dispersion relation and field distribution of the guided surface wave is investigated. It is found that modal field confinement is improved in the presence of a metal cladding without narrowing the operational bandwidth of the waveguide. Moreover, a customized subwavelength-sized dielectric coating based on...
A compact polarization insensitive all-dielectric metasurface lens for Gaussian to tophat beam shaping in sub-terahertz regime
, Article Optics Communications ; Volume 462 , 2020 ; Ahmadi Boroujeni, M ; Tehranian, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper, we present a Gaussian to tophat beam shaper (GTBS) based on an all-dielectric metasurface lens for sub terahertz (sub-THz) applications. In order to calculate the required phase profile of the GTBS, we use an analytical procedure based on the geometrical transformation technique. The calculated phase profile is then realized by a silicon (Si) metasurface lens consisting of rectangular-shaped pillars of subwavelength dimensions. Because of large solution domain relative to the operation wavelength, we combined the beam envelope and the finite element methods to simulate the structure with a high precision. By designing an anti-reflection metasurface made up of periodically...

Abstract
In this paper, we report on the design, simulation and measurement of a flat-top beam shaper (FBS) lens for a millimeter-wave (mm-wave) antenna coupled source. The beam shaper is designed to transform the pseudo-Gaussian beam of the mm-wave source into a flat-top beam of sharp roll-off at a specific distance in the Fresnel region. Firstly, relying on the geometrical optics principles, we propose an analytical formulation for the design of lens profiles. Next, a simple optimization method based on the full-wave simulation of the lens and the mm-wave antenna is suggested to tune the analytically extracted lens profile. The optimized lens profile is then studied to assess its performance...
