Formation and Development of Plastic Hinges in Structures With Concrete Filled Steel Tubular Columns Using Nonlinear Static Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdoos, Hatef (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
concrete-filled steel tube offers many practical advantagescompared withconventional structural systems. The concrete infill provides stiffness and strength in compression and restrains local and global buckling. The inelastic deformation capacity of the CFT system is increased by the confinement of the concrete fill by the thin, ductile steel tube, and this significantly contributes to the seismic performance.
In this research, Formation and development of plastic hinges in CFST frames using pushover analysis was investigated. Different frames with rectangular and circular column and I beam weredesigned and Using nonlinear finite element analysis, interaction between steel and concrete...

Response of Curved RC Shear Walls Under Cyclic Loading

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abdoos, Hatef (Author) ; Khaloo, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls with a curved cross-section are appealing structural elements to architects and engineers due to the aesthetic and structural advantages. Owing to the paucity of decent experimental research on curved RC shear walls (CRCSWs), the seismic response of these structural elements is essentially unknown. In that regard, this study includes research on a high-demanding type of structural element, which has found its application in North America, Europe, Asia, and to some extent in the Middle East with relatively no design specifications and laboratory research, structural analysis, and design methodology. Therefore, in order to provide an insight into the...

Seismic behavior comparison of RC shear walls strengthened using FRP composites and steel elements

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 28, Issue 3 A , 2021 , Pages 1-27 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Habibi, O ; Khaloo, A ; Abdoos, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Sharif University of Technology  2021
    Abstract
This paper aims at investigating the seismic behavior of strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls using a 3D finite element analysis. A series of four different configurations of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites and four different schemes of steel elements are utilized to compare the two methods of retrofitting RC shear walls with similar dimensions and reinforcement ratios. Nonlinear simulations of the RC shear walls are conducted under the action of lateral cyclic loading in ABAQUS Explicit software. In addition, the numerical modeling for RC walls strengthened by CFRP composites as well as steel elements are validated according to the previous experimental...

On the out-of-plane dynamic response of horizontally curved beams resting on elastic foundation traversed by a moving mass

    , Article Journal of Sound and Vibration ; Volume 479 , 2020 Abdoos, H ; Khaloo, A. R ; Foyouzat, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Academic Press  2020
    Abstract
In this paper, the dynamic behavior of Horizontally Curved Beams (HCBs) resting on an elastic foundation and subjected to a moving mass is investigated. The governing coupled non-linear differential equations of equilibrium are derived, where Coriolis acceleration, centrifugal force and rotary inertia are incorporated in the problem formulation. In the proposed analytical solution, by employing the transition matrix technique, the governing differential equations of motion are subsequently transformed into a new system of linear ordinary differential equations which can be solved using standard numerical procedures. The accuracy as well as the robustness of the solution is ascertained...

Axial force contribution to the out-of-plane response of horizontally curved beams under a moving mass excitation

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 115 , 2023 , Pages 148-172 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Khaloo, A. R ; Foyouzat, M. A ; Abdoos, H ; Mofid, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Horizontally curved beams subjected to a moving mass do experience a time-varying axial force due to the in-plane centrifugal action of the inertial accelerations. The current study aims at investigating the contribution of the induced axial force to the out-of-plane dynamics of horizontally curved beams under the excitation of a moving mass. The governing differential equations of motion are established to account for the action of the axial force, and also the effect of mass inertia, Coriolis and centrifugal forces introduced by a moving object. In the course of dealing with the semi-analytical approach, a new system of ordinary differential equations is distilled utilizing the transition...

An intelligent hybrid method based on Monte Carlo simulation for short-term probabilistic wind power prediction

    , Article Energy ; Volume 278 , 2023 ; 03605442 (ISSN) Abdoos, A. A ; Abdoos, H ; Kazemitabar, J ; Mobashsher, M. M ; Khaloo, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Precise estimation of wind power is exceedingly challenging due to the quick and random fluctuations in wind speed. Therefore, this article presents a probabilistic intelligent method for wind power prediction to minimize the risk caused by the uncertainty of the generated power. The proposed method is realized through four important steps: 1. Analyzing the wind power time series signals; 2. Creating training patterns; 3. Training patterns by applying machine learning; 4. Making a probabilistic prediction based on the Monte-Carlo simulation. To estimate the wind power more accurately, the time series of historical data on wind power are decomposed into different levels by appropriate signal...

Chance-constrained programming for optimal scheduling of combined cooling, heating, and power-based microgrid coupled with flexible technologies

    , Article Sustainable Cities and Society ; Volume 77 , 2022 ; 22106707 (ISSN) Mianaei, P.K ; Aliahmadi, M ; Faghri, S ; Ensaf, M ; Ghasemi, A ; Abdoos, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Microgrids (MGs) have a special role in developing several consumers' energy infrastructure and supply in more economical, safer, and sustainable ways. The interaction and mutual relationship between each energy carrier on the reliable performance of other carriers and the high growth of tri-generation technologies in the MG face the optimal performance of such networks with many challenges. Combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP)-based MGs are a new generation of MGs that simultaneously provide electrical, thermal, and cooling loads. However, the interaction between these carriers is very influential in CCHP-based MG's operation, which is rarely analyzed. Hence, this paper focuses on...
