Scale Formation in Porous Media and its Impact on Reservoir Performance During Water Flooding

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abedi, Emad (Author) ; Masihi, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Co-Supervisor) ; Ghazanfari, Mohammad Hossein (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mineral scale precipitation and carbonate rock dissolution are among the most important reactions that usually occur during water injection in oil reservoirs. These reactions happen due to incompatibility between formation water and injection water as well as deviation from equilibrium conditions. These reactions must be considered precisely because of the fact that they result in variation of reservoir porosity and permeability which affects recovery factor. In this study, the effect of injection pressure on these variations during single-phase water flooding is examined accurately. Additionally, the changes of ion concentration and the amount of dissolved or precipitated calcite or...

    Abstract
A hot gas generator is a compact heat exchanger that produces high temperature or enthalpy gases. This paper presents two methods for controlling the system. The first one is an adaptive sliding mode controller that is a Lyapunov based method and proposed to confront the dynamic modeling deficiencies and system uncertainties. The second one is a linear adaptive controller that gives a new attractive ability to the system which can track a complicated requested path. Each of the presented controllers has some capabilities that may be preferred to other. In this paper, these methods are extensively compared by several transient inputs. On the other hand, since heat exchangers are typically...

Neutronic Simulation of Pebble Bed Reactors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abedi, Amin (Author) ; Vossoughi, Nasser (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The Very-High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) design is one of the six candidates for the Generation IV nuclear reactors. The reactor core type of the VHTR design is either prismatic or pebble-bed. In pebble bed reactors, the core is filled of thousands of graphite and fuel pebbles. Fuel pebbles in these reactors consist of TRISO particles, which are embedded in a graphite matrix stochastically. The reactor core is also stochastically filled up of fuel and dummy pebbles with an unequal ratio. These two stochastic geometries are the so-called double heterogeneous of this type of reactors. In the current study, a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abedi, Hajar (Author) ; Izadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is proposing a probabilistic model in transition systems of records. In these systems, two acceptance state of finite and infinite string have proposed which acceptance state of finite string is called probabilistic finite automata of records and acceptance state of infinite string is called probabilistic buchi automata of records. The buchi automata of records is an operational semantic for Reo coordination language. Reo is a coordination language to coordinate existing component of a component based system. Reo circuits with non-deterministic and probabilistic channel can be modeled by proposing probabilistic buchi automata of records. In this dissertation...

    , Article Classical and Quantum Gravity ; Vol. 31, issue. 19 , 2014 ; ISSN: 02649381 Abedi, J ; Arfaei, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper the question of the emission of fermions in the process of dilaton black hole evolution and its characteristics for different dilaton coupling constants α are studied. The main quantity of interest, the greybody factors, are calculated both numerically and in analytical approximation. The dependence of the rates of evaporation and behaviour on the dilaton coupling constant is analysed. Having calculated the greybody factors, we are able to address the question of the final fate of the dilaton black hole. For that we also need to perform dynamical treatment of the solution by considering the backreaction, which will show a crucial effect on the final result. We find a transition...

    Abstract
In pebble bed reactors, the core is filled with thousands of graphite and fuel pebbles. Fuel pebbles in these reactors consist of TRISO particles, which are embedded in a graphite matrix stochastically. The reactor core is also stochastically filled with pebbles. These two stochastic geometries comprise the so-called double heterogeneous nature of this type of reactor. In this paper, a pebble bed reactor, the HTR-10, is used to demonstrate a treatment of this double heterogeneity using the MCNP5 Monte Carlo code and MATLAB programming. In this technique, TRISO particles are modeled in a pebble using the expanded FILL and LATTICE features of MCNP5. MATLAB is used to generate random numbers...

    Abstract
Abstract: We consider the back reaction of the energy due to quantum fluctuation of the background fields considering the trace anomaly for Schwarzschild black hole. It is shown that it will result in modification of the horizon and also formation of an inner horizon. We show that the process of collapse of a thin shell stops before formation of the singularity at a radius slightly smaller than the inner horizon at the order of (Formula presented.). After the collapse stops the reverse process takes place. Thus we demonstrate that without turning on quantum gravity and just through the effects the coupling of field to gravity as trace anomaly of quantum fluctuations the formation of the...

Afterward, the developed microstructures and mechanical properties of the rolled steel are evaluated employing different testing techniques. In order to justify the results, mathematical modeling of cold rolling operation is also performed using Abaqus/Explicit to...

Design and Optimization of a Tilting Bone Anchor and Investigating its Performance Using Pull-Out Tests in Ovine and Human Humerus

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abedi, Ali (Author) ; Farahmand, Farzam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The mechanical interaction of a tilting anchor and cancellous bones of various densities was simulated using finite element modeling. The model enjoyed a sophisticated representation of the bone, as an elasto-plastic material with large deformation capability. The anchor’s tilting action during implantation phase, as well as its fixation stiffness during pull-out test, were predicted by the model, and a parametric study was performed to investigate the effects of the anchor’s distal width, corner fillet radius and bone engagement edge’s coefficient of friction (COF) on these measures. The model predictions were validated against the results of an experimental test on ovine humerus specimens....

Collective dynamics of interacting particles in unsteady flows

    , Article SIAM Journal on Applied Dynamical Systems ; Vol. 13, Issue. 1 , 2014 , pp. 194-209 ; ISSN: 15360040 Abedi, M ; Jalali, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
We use the Fokker-Planck equation and its moment equations to study the collective behavior of interacting particles in unsteady one-dimensional flows. Particles interact according to a longrange attractive and a short-range repulsive potential field known as Morse potential. We assume Stokesian drag force between particles and their carrier fluid and find analytic single-peaked traveling solutions for the spatial density of particles in the catastrophic phase. In steady flow conditions the streaming velocity of particles is identical to their carrier fluid, but we show that particle streaming is asynchronous with an unsteady carrier fluid. Using linear perturbation analysis, the stability...

    , Article IECON Proceedings (Industrial Electronics Conference), 3 November 2009 through 5 November 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 1403-1408 Abedi, M. R ; Tahami, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
This paper addresses a nonlinear model predictive controller design for a single-phase PFC rectifier exploiting the Sheppard-Taylor converter. After approximation of the tracking error in the receding horizon by its Taylor-series expansion to any specified order, an analytic solution to the MPC is developed and a closed-form nonlinear predictive controller is introduced. The proposed nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) derived using approximation can stabilize the original nonlinear systems if certain conditions, which can be met by properly choosing predictive times and the order for Taylor expansion, are satisfied. The main advantage of this digital control method is that unity power...

Study of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Austenitic Stainless Steel after Sheet Rolling Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abedi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Serajzadeh, Siamak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Austenite in the 300 stainless steels is not a table phase in deformation processing during which martensite phase forms. This causes significant changes in the microstructures as well as the mechanical properties of deformed steel. In this work, the effects of rolling speed, reduction, temperature and strain pass on the strain-induced martensite during strip rolling operation of stainless steel 304L are studied. Cold rolling experiments under different speeds, reduction and temperature are conducted and then, the microstructural events and mechanical properties of the rolled steel are evaluated. For doing so, different testing techniques including tensile test, hardness measurement, optical...

Random Cluster States: Definitions, Properties and Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abedi, Ashkan (Author) ; Karimipour, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entanglement plays a major role in quantum communication as the main resource of the network and makes it possible to perform protocols such as quantum teleportation and quantum cryptography which are not achievable in classical networks. Yet, being a very fragile resource against noise, which inevitably is more destructive as the distance increases and as time passes, makes it a very hard to share entangled pairs between two points at a long distance. This discouraging result for linear networks, has prompted investigation of entanglement percolation and entanglement distribution in regular one- and two-dimensional networks with various (i.e rectangular, triangular and hexagonal)...

    2008
    Abstract
In this paper CCM/CVM operation and modeling of the Sheppard-Taylor topology is reviewed and a predictive control strategy is applied for a Sheppard-Taylor-based power factor correction (PFC) rectifier. Compared to conventional boost or buck - boost PFC's, this topology allows a better current tracking at the AC side, with a relatively reduced voltage at the DC side. Consequently, the high frequency AC filters required by the buck PECs are avoided, and the voltage stresses on the boost switches are significantly reduced. Furthermore In predictive control strategy the duty cycle required to achieve unity power factor in a half line period can be calculated in advance. The main advantage of...
