Abstract
Research on the microdroplet splitting phenomenon has intensified in recent years. Microdroplet splitting has numerous applications in chemical synthesis, biology, and separation processes. The current paper covers the numerical study of ferrofluid microdroplet splitting at various lengths and velocities inside the T-junction with branches of unequal widths under asymmetric magnetic fields. Microdroplet splitting can be controlled by using an asymmetric magnetic field and the asymmetry in the width of T-junctions branches. Three geometrical models of the T-junction with different widths ratio (0.7, 0.85, and 1), along with a magnetic field with various intensities are studied. This magnetic...

Abstract
Pulsating heat pipes (PHPs) are interesting heat transfer devices. Their simple, high maintaining, and cheap arrangement has made PHPs very efficient compared to conventional heat pipes. Rotating closed loop PHP (RCLPHP) is a novel kind of them, in which the thermodynamic principles of PHP are combined with rotation. In this paper, effect of rotational speed on thermal performance of a RCLPHP is investigated experimentally. The research was carried out by changing input power (from 25. W to 100. W, with 15. W steps) and filling ratio (25%, 50%, and 75%) for different rotational speeds (from 50. rpm to 800. rpm with an increment of 125. rpm). The results presented that at a fixed filling...

Abstract
The studies surrounding the concept of microdroplets have seen a dramatic increase in recent years. Microdroplets have applications in different fields such as chemical synthesis, biology, separation processes and micro-pumps. This study numerically investigates the effect of different parameters such as Capillary number, Length of droplets, and Magnetic Bond number on the splitting process of ferrofluid microdroplets in symmetric T-junctions using an asymmetric magnetic field. The use of said field that is applied asymmetrically to the T-junction center helps us control the splitting of ferrofluid microdroplets. During the process of numerical simulation, a magnetic field with various...
A study on the hot workability of wrought NiTi shape memory alloy
, Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 528, Issue 18 , July , 2011 , Pages 5656-5663 ; 09215093 (ISSN) ; Kheirandish, S ; Aboutalebi, M ; Taheri, A. K ; Abbasi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
2011
Abstract
The hot workability of a wrought 49.8 Ni-50.2 Ti (at pct) alloy was assessed using the hot compression tests in temperature range of 700-1000°C, strain rate of 0.001-1s-1, and the total strain of 0.7. The constitutive equations of Arrhenius-type hyperbolic-sine function was used to describe the flow stress as a function of strain rate and temperature. The preferable regions for hot workability of the alloy were achieved at Z (Zener-Holloman parameter) values of about 109-1013 corresponding to the peak efficiency of 20-30% in the processing map. However, a narrow area in the processing map including the deformation temperature of 1000°C and strain rate of 1s-1 is inconsistent with the related...

, Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 499, Issue 1 , June , 2010 , Pages 57-62 ; 09258388 (ISSN) ; Kheirandish, Sh ; Aboutalebi, M ; Karimi Taheri, A ; Abbasi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
The influence of Cu addition on the hot deformation behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys was investigated using hot compression test. A series of alloys with different Cu contents of Ti50.4Ni49.6-xCux (x = 0, 3, 5, 7 at.%) were deformed under compression to a true strain of 0.7 at the temperature range of 700-1000 °C with 100 °C intervals and constant strain rate of 0.1 s-1. The stress-strain curves showed that the addition of Cu to NiTi alloy made the flow curves shift upward. This was confirmed by the calculated critical stress, σc, obtained from inflections in θ-σ plots, which is attributed to the formation of high strength Cu containing precipitates and solid solution hardening caused by...
Direct Numerical Simulation of External In-compressible Flow Using High-order Accurate Finite-difference Lattice Boltzmann Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hejranfar, Kazem (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the present study, a high-order finite-difference lattice Boltzmann solver is applied for simulating steady and unsteady three-dimensional incompressible flows. To achieve an accurate and robust flow solver, the incompressible form of the lattice Boltzmann equation in the three-dimensional generalized curvilinear coordinates is discretized spatially based on the fifth-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) finite-difference scheme. To ensure the stability and temporal accuracy of the flow solver, the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method is used for the time integration. To examine the accuracy and performance of the flow solver, different three-dimensional incompressible flow...

Rotating pulsating heat pipe is a mechanism in which the pipes can rotate around the axis perpendicular to the plane of pipes. In this research one rotating heat pipe was built and the effects of heat input, filling ratio and rotational acceleration were examined experimentally. The Innovation in the research was to obtain...
Ownership Structure and Dividend Policies: Evidence from Iran
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ebrahimnejad, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Ownership concentration and the separation of voting rights from cash flow rights are common in countries with weak legal protections for minority shareholders. These characteristics shift the agency problem from conflict of interests between managers and shareholders to conflict of interests between majority and minority shareholders. In such ownership structures, majority shareholders receive dividends based on their cash flow rights but exert control over the company according to their voting rights. Consequently, they have both the motivation and the ability to withhold profit distribution among minority shareholders and prioritize their own interests. Iran, as a country characterized by...

Abstract
The effect of high-energy ball milling on the textural evolution of alumina nanopowders (compaction response, sinter-ability, grain growth and the degree of agglomeration) during post sintering process is studied. The applied pressure required for the breakage of the agglomerates (P y) during milling was estimated and the key elements of compressibility (i.e. critical pressure (P cr) and compressibility (b)) were calculated. Based on the results, the fracture point of the agglomerates decreased from 150 to 75 MPa with prolonged milling time from 3 to 60 min. Furthermore, the powders were formed by different shaping methods such as cold isostatic press (CIP) and uniaxial press (UP) to better...

Abstract
Ferrofluids are used in various fields such as drug delivery systems, heat transfer, biotechnology and separation processes. In this study, the splitting of ferrofluid microdroplets in symmetric and asymmetric T-junctions in the presence of a magnetic field has been investigated numerically and experimentally. These studies have shown that the creation of an asymmetric magnetic field can either affect the phenomenon of ferrofluid microdroplet breakup or the volume of microdroplets that are created after breaking and leaving each branch. Furthermore, more control can be applied to the phenomenon of microdroplet breakup. In the numerical study, the ferrofluid microdroplet breakup at different...

Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar

Abstract
In this paper, we consider an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system with wireless power transfer (WPT) where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based radar serves a group of energy-limited communication users in addition to its sensing functionality. In this architecture, the radar senses the environment in phase 1 (namely sensing phase) and mean-while, the communications users (nodes) harvest and store the energy from the radar transmit signal. The stored energy is then used for information transmission from the nodes to UAV in phase 2, i.e., uplink phase. Performance of the radar system depends on the transmit signal as well as the receive filter; the energy of the transmit...

Abstract
One of the important obstacles in MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radars is the issue of designing proper transmit signals. Indeed, the capability of signal design is a significant advantage in MIMO radars, through which, the system can achieve much better performance. Many different aspects of this performance improvement have been considered yet, and the transmit signals have been designed to attain such goal, e.g., getting higher SNR or better detector's performance at the receiver. However, an important tool for evaluating the radar's performance is its ambiguity function. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmit signal design, in order to optimize the ambiguity function...

Abstract
Two gains play key roles in recently developed MIMO wireless communication systems: "spatial diversity" gain and "spatial multiplexing" gain. The diversity gain refers to the capability to decrease the error rate of the MIMO channel, while the multiplexing gain implicitly refers to the amount of increase in the capacity of the MIMO channel. It has been shown that there is a fundamental tradeoff between these two types of gains, meaning interplay between increasing reliability (via an increase in the diversity gain) and increasing data rate (via an increase in the multiplexing gain). On the other hand, recently, MIMO radars have attracted much attention for their superior ability to enhance...

Abstract
It is a well known fact that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides improves the detection performance. However, in such multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, proper positioning of transmitters and receivers is a big challenge that can have significant influence on the performance of the overall system. In addition, determining the power of each transmitter under a total power constraint is a problem that should be solved in order to enhance the performance and coverage of such a system. In this paper, we design the Neyman-Pearson detector under the Rayleigh scatter model and use it to introduce a criterion for the antenna placement at both transmit and receive...

Abstract
There has been much interest, recently, towards exploiting the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique in radar. It is shown that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides can improve the performance of the system. However, in order to analyze the system's performance, its ambiguity function, i.e. the ambiguity function of a MIMO radar, is needed to be defined. In this paper, beginning from the information theoretic definitions, we derive such function, specifically for a MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

Abstract
By combining the two ideas of MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) and PCL (Passive Coherent Location) in radar, one can achieve the advantages of both recently developed techniques simultaneously. While using multiple antennas at the receive side provides a spatial diversity of the object to be detected, using multiple illuminators of opportunity, most importantly, makes the radar covert to the interceptors. One obstacle in such MIMO configuration is choosing the positions of the receive antennas. In this paper, after analyzing the Neyman-Pearson detector for the DVB-T based PCL, we introduce the probability of missed detection as a criterion to place the receive antenna. Here, we only...

Abstract
One of the most important obstacles in passive radar applications is removing the direct signal from the target channel. Otherwise, week echoes from the targets in the target channel would be ignored due to the limited dynamic range of the system. One of the most effective techniques in this field is using adaptive filters. In this paper various adaptive filters are introduced and their performances are shown and compared
