The Effect of Induced Anisotropy on the Dynamic Properties of Unsaturated Sand at Constant Suction by Hollow Cylinder Apparatus
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafarzadeh, Fardin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Soils have an anisotropic response, and mechanical and dynamic properties of this material are greatly dependent on the direction and magnitude of principal stresses. A reliable assessment of the soil behavior and a good estimation of the soil parameters need to perform tests in similar condition with in-situ. From all the devices used for studying anisotropy of soils, hollow cylinder apparatus is the only apparatus that enables an independent control of both the direction and magnitude of the principal stresses. Moreover, one of the most controversial topics in the unsaturated soil dynamics is determining the shear modulus and damping ratio which are used for assessing many geotechnical...
Dynamic analysis of rectangular liquid containers in three-dimensional space

Abstract
A new method for seismic analysis of containers in three-dimensional space is introduced in which the effects of both impulsive and convective components and their corresponding damping are accounted for in time domain. A case study is performed to investigate the behaviour of a concrete rectangular container under the effects of horizontal and vertical ground motions using the scaled earthquake components of the 1940 El-Centro earthquake record. Two-dimensional behaviour of the tank is assumed. The results of the study are compared with those obtained using the current practice and those determined from finite element (FE) analysis based on a lumped mass model. The results of the FE...

Abstract
Resistance spot welding of dissimilar materials especially in different thickness is generally more challenging than that of similar materials due to differences in the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the base metals. And also when the part is under static and dynamic forces the health of spot-welds is crucial. Hence, the influence of welding parameters such as current, time, applied force and hold time on the shear-tensile load has been investigated in this study. Moreover, in this research the case study is one of the most important body parts of the vehicle which is front wheel house, and effect of above-mentioned parameter on the strength of spot-welds has been...
