    Abstract
In recent years, Wireless Ad-hoc networks have been considered as one of the most important technologies. The application domains of Wireless Ad-hoc Networks gain more and more importance in many areas. One of them is controlling and management the packet traffic. In this paper our goal is controlling the performance of every sections of pipeline of the factory by checking network periodically. Along the factory the traffic is modeled with a Poisson process. We present, with obtaining traffic packets at time (t) for each node in Wireless Ad-hoc Network, we can completely train a Neural Network and successfully predict the traffic at time (t+1) for each node. By this way we can recognize the...

    Abstract
A secure channel coding (joint encryption-channel coding) scheme provides both data security and reliability in one combined process to achieve faster processing and/or more efficient implementation. The issue of using quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes in a symmetric-key secure channel coding scheme is addressed. A set of this class of LDPC codes has recently been recommended by the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for near-earth and deep-space communications. The proposed scheme provides an efficient error performance, an acceptable level of security and a low-complexity practicable implementation. The results indicate that the proposed scheme can efficiently employ...

    Abstract
The ongoing COVOD-19(SARS-CoV-2) outbreak has had a devastating impact on the economy, education and businesses. In this paper, the behavior of an epidemic is simulated on different contact networks. Herein, it is assumed that the infection may be transmitted at each contact from an infected person to a susceptible individual with a given probability. The probability of transmitting the disease may change due to the individuals' social behavior or interventions prescribed by the authorities. We utilized simulation on the contact networks to demonstrate how seesaw scenarios of lockdown can curb infection and level the pandemic without maximum pressure on the poor societies. Soft scenarios...

    Abstract
In this study, the effect of protection methods regarding the corrosion decrement of steel in concrete was simulated by artificial neural networks (ANNs) and fuzzy logic (FL) approaches. Hot dip galvanizing as a protective coating, Ferrogard 901 corrosion inhibitor, a pozzolanic component, such as fly ash (FA) and micro-silica (MS), and eventually rebar AISI-304 were employed in concrete. Reinforced concrete samples were held under impressed voltage of 30 V in 3.5 % NaCl electrolyte for 350 hours toward a stainless-steel auxiliary electrode. Corrosion currents have been modelled using feed forward back propagation ANNs and FL methods. The results demonstrate good consistency between...

Multi-objective minimum entropy controller design for stochastic processes

    , Article Proceedings of the 2010 American Control Conference, ACC 2010, 30 June 2010 through 2 July 2010 ; 2010 , Pages 355-360 ; 9781424474264 (ISBN) Afshar, P ; Nobakhti, A ; Wang, H ; Chai, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Minimum variance control is an established method in control of systems corrupted by noise. In these cases, as it is not possible to directly control the actual value of the system variables, one aims to reduce the variations instead. However, when the system noises are non-Gaussian, this approach fails because non-Gaussian noise cannot be characterised by simple measures such as variance. In these cases, the Entropy is proposed as a generalisation of the variance measure and the control objective becomes that of minimising the Entropy. Previously a limited form of this problem has been solved using first order Newtonian methods. In this paper, the control objective is first expanded to also...

    Managing reengineering operations

    , Article 2006 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation and Technology, ICMIT 2006, Singapore, 21 June 2006 through 23 June 2006 ; Volume 1 , 2006 , Pages 268-269 ; 1424401488 (ISBN); 9781424401482 (ISBN) Afshar, A ; Sepehri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Fifteen years after introduction of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and a series of successful and not-so-successful BPR implementation, a revised methodology is needed to incorporate cases of major and sudden organizational or environmental changes with BPR. The new methodology can also be particularly applicable to project oriented businesses. September 11, Tsunami, and other major world events show that nothing is constant but change. A reengineered process may only stay as the environment factors stay the same. Therefore, the processes can no longer be the central focus of reengineering, but the output needs. Technology has enabled us to refocus and apply reengineering constantly to...

    Abstract
In this paper, a non parametric approach is first proposed to monitor simple linear profiles with non normal error terms in Phase I and Phase II. In this approach, two control charts based on a transformation technique and decision on beliefs are designed in order to monitor the intercept and the slope, simultaneously. Then, some simulation experiments are performed in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed control charts in Phase II under both step and drift shifts in terms of out-of-control average run length (ARL1). Besides, the performance of the proposed control charts is compared to the ones of seven other existing schemes in the literature. Simulation results show that the...

    Abstract
Application of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) in a system results in a decrease in component failure rates and as such improvement in the system reliability. One of the major subjects of the RCM is focused on the Online and Offline Preventive Maintenance (OPM and FPM which together will be denoted by OFPM) of the components which repairing the component needs or doesn't need to stop the mission carrying out by it. The RCM is classified as a preventive maintenance policy and has significant contribution in practical applications. However, little research has been devoted to modeling the online and offline Preventive Maintenance. This research assumes that the component failure rate...

    Abstract
Wireless Ad-hoc Networks have been proposed for variety of applications. In this paper our goal is to find crisis points in the roads, such as accident locations, and asphalt-destruction points, which may cause traffics along the roads. The applied method for traffic prediction is based on back propagation algorithm. In this paper the length of packets are assumed to be constant. Along the road the traffic is modeled by a Poisson Process. With this model we can produce packets. The number of packets which are sending from a typical node to the other nodes is controlled by a fuzzy system. By appropriate training of a neural network, we have shown that, having the traffic packets at time (t)...

    Sharif University of Technology  2003
    Abstract
Titanium is a highly reactive metal with an inclination to compose with oxygen. In order to increase its corrosion resistance and application, therefore, a thin layer of titanium oxide is produced on the surface by chemical and electrochemical methods. In the present research, titanium has been anodized in 20 M of NaOH solution under potentiostatic conditions at constant voltages of 25 and 35 V. The microstructure of the anodic layers has been studied by the use of a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The results indicated that the structure of the anodic layers is amorphous with low porosity and that thickness increases with an increase in anodizing voltage. The...

Evaluation of electrical breakdown of anodic films on titanium in phosphate-base solutions

    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Volume 186, Issue 3 , 2004 , Pages 398-404 ; 02578972 (ISSN) Afshar, A ; Vaezi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
Titanium is a highly reactive metal, so that whenever it is exposed to air or other environments containing available oxygen, a thin layer of oxide is formed on the surface. This layer increases the corrosion resistance of titanium. The formation of the oxide film can be electrochemically performed by anodizing. In this research, anodizing of titanium was performed in phosphate-base solutions such as H3PO4, NaH2PO 4·2H2O and Na2HPO4 at 9.75 mA/cm2 and 35 °C under galvanostatic conditions. The potential-time curves in the above mentioned solutions show that the anodic films formed on Ti are compact and their thickness depends on the solution type and concentration. The SEM and XRD studies...

Modelling of carbon dioxide corrosion of steel with iron carbonate precipitation

    , Article Corrosion Engineering Science and Technology ; Volume 44, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 128-136 ; 1478422X (ISSN) Shayegani, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Afshar, A ; Rahmaniyan, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Corrosion of mild steel in aqueous solutions containing carbon dioxide was modelled under condition that protective iron carbonate films formed on the steel surface. In this model, the film form on the steel surface due to precipitation of iron carbonate from saturated solution. The precipitation of iron carbonate produces a porous layer on the steel surface, reducing the diffusion of species toward the steel surface. If the precipitation rate is high, the porosity decreases and the mass transport becomes slower. Therefore, formation of protective layers on the steel surface reduces the corrosion rate. In this case, the corrosion processes are controlled with diffusion of species. The model...
