Design and Fabrication of Microfluidic Based Systems for Electrical Properties Measurement of Bio-Particles
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fardmanesh, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Microfluidics is a novel technology that brought a revolution in the field of chemistry and biology. This technology allows precise control and manipulation of fluids and particles in sub-millimeter bio-compatible channels. This makes microfluidics a powerful tool to study and examine bio-particles and bio-processes. One of the most prominent areas in microfluidics is the integration of developed measurement tools and devices of the electrical engineering field, with microfluidic chips. The purpose of this thesis is to measure the electrical impedance spectrum of bio-particles with high precision and in a wide bandwidth. These valuable spectrums are useful in many applications such as...
Improving Manufacturing Yield and Life Cycle of Special Purpose SIMT Processors for Inexact Computing
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hesabi, Shahin (Supervisor)
Abstract
The downscaling of feature size and higher process variation in COMS nano-technology are anticipated to introduce higher manufacturing anomalies. On the other hand, designs are getting more complicated due to more innovative applications where they need higher numbers of transistors. Because of these issues, integrated circuits manufacturing has become more complicated than before. Complexity in manufacturing process increases the probability of the defects in chips. This phenomenon reduces the fabrication yield. Conventional methods like fault tolerant techniques, defect tolerant techniques and redundancy are not separately good enough for improving manufacturing yield. On the other hand,...
Feasibility Study for Establishment of a Casing Pipe Threading Plant in IRAN Oil Industry Via UNIDO Approach
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mostafavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
Abstract
Regarding high importance of casing pipes in oil industry also considering that they have not been producing domestically (with specific features), the main object of this research is feasibility study of establishment of a casing pipe threading plant which produces such kind of pipes. Usage of Casing PipesIs defining as a separator between wall of oil well and its core. The operation starts with driving and fixing a casing pipe to the oil well to avoid its collapsing during excavation process , then next casing pipes will be driven to the well and will be fixed to the previous pipes. During current research, after gathering all related financial and technical data, evaluation of “Net...
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Production Via Chemical Method Using Vegetable Oils
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Alemzadeh, Iran (Supervisor)
Abstract
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a mixture of positional and geometrical isomers of linoleic acid with conjugated double bonds, has gained considerable attention because of its anticarcinogenic and obesity treatment properties. The most biologically active CLA isomers are 9c, 11t-18:2 and 10t, 12c-18:2. Natural sources of CLA are fat of meat and dairy products derived from ruminant animals. About 3 grams of CLA per day is necessary to provide human health needs, but each person receives about 10% of this value from natural resources, thus production of CLA as a dietary supplement is necessary. CLA is produced from biological and chemical methods but because of high yield of chemical...

Abstract
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is one of the most physiological active fatty acids due to its positive effect on prevention of diseases such as obesity, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis and cancer. The aim of this study was to optimize the production of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)% in alkali isomerization of safflower oil including 71% linoleic acid (LA) using response surface methodology (RSM). The effect of three reaction variables such as temperature, reaction time and amount of KOH on CLA production was investigated using design-expert software. The optimal condition determined at this point, 72% total CLA with the yield of 84% temperature reaction time and the amount of KOH were 187.6...
